Kirsten Powers: More Americans will be put in danger if the media doesn’t start challenging the White House on Libya

posted at 6:41 pm on September 28, 2012 by Allahpundit

A few reporters have stepped up, of course. Eli Lake at Newsweek has done a bang-up job, CNN has stuck with the story all week, Tapper had a solid report last night about who knew what and when. But perhaps we’re asking too much from the media generally; there are, after all, Romney gaffes to be covered. And if there’s one thing that America wants and needs from its media right now, it’s more navel-gazing horse-race election dreck.

Not KP, though. Good lord, I think she’s gone rogue:

There are so many unanswered questions, not just about Libya, but also about Cairo. Who is it that Rice thinks “widely disseminated” this “movie”? Surely she can’t believe that the Egyptian Coptic Christian who made the video had the capacity or even desire to put it in the hands of the people who did the inciting. Also, has the administration noticed that the mob in Cairo, so spontaneously upset about the video, just happened to be carrying an Islamist flag to hoist over our embassy? On 9/11. What a massive coincidence.

Also, where did Rice get her very detailed information about the attack in Libya? She referred to the attackers as “a small handful of heavily armed mobsters” who merely took advantage of a growing protest over the video, a protest that now appears never to have occurred, as was reported three days before her appearances. The administration is careful to point out that Rice couched everything she said as being the best assessment at the time. Fine. But where did that assessment come from and how could it have been so wrong, especially when all signs pointed to a terrorist attack?

We know now that before the attacks on 9/11 that killed 3,000 Americans, more attention should have been paid to attacks against the U.S. overseas. These were warnings of what was to come. They say curiosity killed the cat. In this case, lack of curiosity on the part of the American media very well may kill more Americans.

In a different political environment, if Congress wasn’t back home campaigning for reelection and demands for answers from the top weren’t fated to be met with screeching about how the GOP is “politicizing terror” before the big vote, I think the House would already be moving towards holding hearings about what the White House knew. As it is, I wouldn’t expect them to pursue this even after election day; they’ll be consumed with hashing out a compromise on the Bush tax cuts and the sequester. This seems fated to end up off the public’s radar sooner rather than later. Like the man said, a bump in the road.

Here’s KP on Wednesday’s “Special Report” previewing her Newsweek op-ed today. Click the image to watch. Exit quotation from Mike Huckabee: “This White House has been discredited and its credibility, certainly the promises of transparency, have been completely decimated by their actions.”

So it’s official: the U.S. believes the September 11 attack on the Benghazi consulate was a “deliberate and organized terrorist attack.”

And with that Friday night dump statement, Director of National Intelligence (an oxymoron if there ever was one) James Clapper threw himself under the bus.

The office of the United States’ top intelligence official appeared to take the blame Friday for the Obama administration’s changing narrative on the U.S. Consulate attack in Libya, saying administration officials who initially claimed the attack was spontaneous did so based on intelligence officials’ guidance.

The statement by Shawn Turner, spokesman for Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, was put out late Friday — at the close of a tumultuous week for the Obama administration over the Libya attack.
The White House has had to steadily backpedal over initial claims that the attack was inspired by protests in Cairo over an anti-Islam film and was not pre-planned. Top officials started last week calling the attack “terrorism.”

Turner’s statement marked a complete reversal from the initial claims.

What they (Obama, Carney, Rice, Clinton, et al.) can’t be allowed to get away with is the general statement that they changed their views based on new facts. Powers is right that they have to be pinned down on what facts they learned when to change their view, and why they didn’t know other facts (that were widely known) at the time they claimed the violence was not terrorist and was caused by the movie trailer.

Having said that, this is Romney and we know this. There’s no point when one behaves as one is. We also know that the bloggers and people like us, who do the actual work of talking to other people and trying to get the message out are going to be the ones to drag Romney’s butt over the line, if we can.

This is all part of the process of removing 40+ years of liberal indoctrination. We have to start somewhere and here we are. No point in getting upset about it (as some of more “excitable” posters are wont to do), but to accept the fact that it’s up to *us* and not them.

Folks, Milt Romney is behaving like a adult. The MSM will distort anything he says on September 11, 2012, so he has to speak clearly, and carefully. That said, things are getting close to the worst case in the region. One misstep, one wrong spoken word, and we’re off.(and no stupid comments about how the United States will turn the whole Middle East into a “glass parking lot”, OK. This is serious business with millions of lives, including thousands of American living there.)Kirsten Powers is right, but being the one eye women in the kingdom of the blind, will they(MSM) hear.

I have always liked KP even though she goes off the deep end with class warfare at times. I truly think she is at a point where she sees the donks for what they are. She made clear she had no use for Fluck’s I am victim hear me whine speech and she is smart enough to understand that is what the whole convention was. I remember once when she got off script with the killer Megan Kelly and Kelly told her she would cut her mike if she didn’t STFU. KP shut up at once. Remember this beauty dated Anthony Weiner!!! She can’t be that smart. What we are seeing from the leftist liberals is that they would rather lose our foreign staff than lose their beloved race bating commie president. Even danger to our nation will not make the msms show any signs of patriotism. That’s exactly why Bush said it didn’t matter if bin Laden were dead or alive. Al Quaeda was always bigger than just him.

That’s also exactly why Obama boasting about getting bin Laden was always foolish. Killing bin Laden didn’t finish Al Quaeda. The fact still remains that Bush did more to hurt Al Quaeda than Obama has done, even though he at least kept up the drone attacks.

Once again, the stupid cowboy Bush was a lot smarter than the brilliant light-bringer Obama. Seems to be a trend.

Looks that way. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee’s sternly worded letter demanding more timely info has a due date for briefings the week of November 13. And from what I’ve read Hillary has been in the process of forming an “Accountability Review Board” to investigate the matter…which hasn’t started doing anything yet. I get so sick of hearing, what if this happened under Bush, but SERIOUSLY, just imagine if this had happened under Bush! We’d all be sick of the Breaking News Music on our TVs and radios. I keep lamenting about the media, but seriously, the media is more dangerous than the Obama administration at this point. They are just going to keep enabling this feckless administration, I don’t think there is ANYTHING too horrid that they will not cover it up. At this rate, if he is reelected, WHO KNOWS just how bold these terrorists will become??

Gorgeous as well.

Meh.

KP has been a shill for the Obama administration for years. Hard for me to believe that she is suddenly “getting it” now.

HotAirian on September 28, 2012 at 7:00 PM

Like a whole lot of others, I’ve been watching her for years. Here is a wealthy liberal who has been raised with all the right answers and was forced to work with conservatives for those same years. She has evolved into not becoming the normal lib-progressive because she’s found that talking with others can open a mindset to other ideas.

Give her time–in a few more years she’ll become a rational conservative.

She might need a spanking.

Just sayin…..

If you want the truth about this story, you need to go to The Moscow Times: http//www.themoscowtimes.com/opinion/article/islamic-fundamentalists-in-the-kremlin/468525.html

Its an interesting piece, but the 4th, 5th, and 6th paragraphs are the most enlightening.

The US MSM is too lazy to do any real research on this. They don’t know jack.

Deep inside KP, a conservative is trying to come to the surface.

Whoa! Uh huh, huh huh, uh huh, huh huh, uh huh, huh huh…

Intoxicated from Obama’s sh*t, which is not Beluga caviar, fools, the media will destroy the land.
