Video: “The Avengers” — the honest movie trailer

posted at 8:57 pm on September 27, 2012 by Allahpundit

To cleanse the palate, a piece of video candy that’s going viral on Twitter today. Normally I’d chip in by pointing out a few other plot holes that the clip missed, but as longtime HA readers know, I’m the only American left who’s not into superhero movies.

Don’t worry, though. If it’s grumbly, nitpicky pop-culture criticism you want, I’ll make it up to you. Soon. Soon.

There are many of us out here who aren’t into superhero movies.

Now, if someone made a Sgt. Fury flick, THAT I could get into.

REAAALLY crappy narrating.

Otherwise it was pretty good. But then again, that would apply to any random collection of clips from the movie.

logis on September 27, 2012 at 9:08 PM

I enjoyed the super heroes when Superman still really did stand for ‘Truth, justice, and the American way.’

Now that progressives, revisionist, unimaginative, and banal creatures that they are, have hijacked the super heroes, created by people who understood the difference between right and wrong and why that eternal struggle is important, and rewritten them to suit their own specious narrative, I’ll stick to the old original comic books, tv programs, and films.

Good evening, Scrumpy! Its nice to see you.

Yes… its true. I hate what they’ve done to my childhood heroes. Besides, as a writer, this theft, particularly when the originator is passed, really … let’s just say… irritates me.

If they wanted super heroes who fit the parameters and propaganda with which the progressive wish to indoctrinate our culture they should have invented some of their own.

Where did that slang come from? I grew up through the ’70s without hearing it one time, then lo and behold come the ’80s. THEN I start hearing people talking about how they called cigarettes “fags” in the ’70s.
Somehow, I missed it.

So much going on out there today, yesterday, and this whole week according to just about every single other conservative blog I read out there — and from HotGas this is what we get — a few YouTube videos, a few movie reviews, The Ed Morrissey Show, and The War On Bacon.

*ugh*

I am beginning to agree with some of the other blogs that aren’t tantamount to an ostrich with its head in the sand — post-Malkin HotAir has gone soft and squishy and is now afraid to be what it once was — to the max.

Too bad. So sad.

Cute, very cute. I enjoy sarcastic humor as much as anyone (Obama knows, I use enough of it) But i enjoyed the rips on Hunger Games & Avatar a lot more.

The Transformers & Dark Knight ones were mean spirited in a good way…the Star Wars Esp. 1? Dead spot on.

Bravo!

BlaxPac on September 27, 2012 at 11:58 PM

This trailer is better than the movie!

Thanks, I needed a laugh this morning.

I WAS going to buy THE AVENGERS on DVD until Samuel Jackson’s latest screed pushing Obama. Bleeaargh, it’s not easy to spend money on anything with him — and Johanssen, another Obama stooge — in it.

I rather liked the film, though I found it’s non-stop explosion factor a tad tiring. The Ironman sequences were always rewarding, though…

Anyway, this trailer is great.

mjk on September 27, 2012 at 9:19 PM

Yes, overall, I agree. I liked Captain America in the film but it lent far too much focus to the Scarlet Johanssen character — which, I suppose, was for the ‘guy appeal’ factor.

Where it lost me as to believability, if it can be called that, was the ghostly-hologram forum “advisors” that Samuel Jackson had his powwows with AND then the big, ugly mechanical snakes crawling down from the big hole in the sky. Even writing about that now reads like ridiculousness…

It’s a big ole effects spectacular. I can understand why it’s popular on big screens (meaning, in theatres) because that’s what it’s made for. Watching it on a home screen at 36″ was not nearly as enjoyable.

Lourdes on September 28, 2012 at 7:06 AM

. . . . . but as longtime HA readers know, I’m the only American left who’s not into superhero movies.

excerpt: Allahpundit

IRONMAN was a very good film — Downey was excellent, beyond excellent, in the lead role.

But IRONMAN II was tedious, got lost in the weeds of being just unpolished as to the story.

And this recurring character Samuel Jackson plays (Ironman films, The Avengers) is not at all well explained or identifiable to audiences and either needs to be dumped from future Marvel films or some sort of focus on who-what-why needs to be made. And that’s aside from the fact that I now have Jackson on my Do.Not.Patronize list after his Obama-hype.

I’m not keen on “superheroes,” either, but I watch these films. Not my favorite genre but IRONMAN was something unique and new — Downey made the “superhero” characterisation into one no-longer-artificial and that’s what’s appealing about that character (or, “Superhero” of Ironman as Downey has enacted him to be).
