Video: Samuel L. Jackson stars in first-ever boring role

posted at 4:41 pm on September 27, 2012 by Allahpundit

My working theory about SLJ until today was that a production simply cannot be dull when he’s onscreen, but I was looking to bail after 90 seconds of this one. It’s hard to sit through a political vid for more than a minute or two; it’s doubly hard when you disagree with the politics being pushed; put the whole thing in verse and make the joke obvious from the beginning on top of all that and there’s no way you won’t be grinding your teeth by the end. In fact, this is actually a satire of a satire, Jackson’s audio-book reading of the fake children’s bedtime story, “Go the F*** to Sleep.” (The book’s author wrote the script for this ad too.) If you loved this gag the first time, you’ll love it the second time, I guess. And that, in turn, will … influence your decision on the next presidential election? I guess? The bit with grandma and grandpa at the end is amusing, at least.

The punchline is that Jackson’s been open about why he supported O in 2008 and it had nothing to do with any of the policy choices he rattles off here in rhyme. Quote: “[Obama's] message didn’t mean [bleep] to me.” Fair enough, but it means something to me. Wake the f*** up, America.

Update: An excellent point from the comments. I stand corrected:

“First-ever boring role”. Someone forgot about Mace Windu.

No matter what his politics, Sam Jackson’s career will be fine. He always manages to get himself cast in huge blockbusters. Jurassic Park, the Star Wars prequels, Die Hard 3, the Marvel Avengers series, even The Incredibles if you count voice-acting.

This is how low our election process has fallen, it is essentially American idol now. Who cares about policies and competence, lets vote for the “cool” guy. Sadly, there are many who will fall for this crap.

This is the reality Romney has to face while debating Obama next week. Attacking him on policy failures alone will not cut it, he has to go after his character and personality, if he fails to expose Obama to low info voters then we are looking at another 4 years of socialism.

Correct me if I am wrong;

Did not the Democrats in 2004 have a child at the Podium to lecture the Republican Party regarding the use of certain words and to specifically criticize Dick Cheney for using said word (captured candidly by a hot mike, not made pubicly) and how wrong it was to use?

So that rule no longer applies, nor applies to children?

Really, I don’t watch Freeman, SLJ and many others because they’re such raving freaks. They’re so out of touch and disrespectful of their audience.

This video is a perfect example. First of all, white guilt is soooo…… 2008. This time around the issue is the economy. Secondly, who listens to SLJ’s message when he looks like Idi Amin popping up around your house and shouting obscenities?

The visuals are awful, and it’s a testament to how absurd Hollywood celebs have become.

SparkPlug on September 27, 2012 at 5:34 PM

Samuel L. Jackson does have a certain je ne sais quoi about him. I’ll give him that much. But he is most definitely one of the most way overrated thespians to ever slink out of the rancid gelatinous goo that is Hollywood.

Very rarely is he ever cast in the lead role — a movie just for him.

The vast majority of his work has always been 2nd tier parts, bit parts, puff parts, and cameo’s in mediocre films for SLJ — because he can’t act beyond the level of a 2nd tier thespian coupled with the fact that the tiny dollop of grey matter in his cranium has the attention span of a turkey and the mental stamina of a toad. The only thing that keeps him from drowning and dying in a driving rainstorm is the fact that his nostrils point down.

So — Samuel L. Jackson’s adult ADHD notwithstanding — we already know by his own public admissions that a man’s blackness is far far more important to Sammy Jack than a man’s ability to lead the United States of America [and the entire free world for that matter] with experience, intelligence, common sense, truth, honesty, steadfastness, honor, and dignity. Ergo — his campaign commercials for Barack Hussein Obama are totally and completely moot. Barack Hussein Obama is none of the above. He is simply just black half-black.

I find it impossible to take seriously the preaching and pontificating of some limousine liberal whose life and career are about being someone else, living his life as a mere fictional character according to some movie script.

This is about how liberals think. I forget the old movie, but one character in it said that the more you use foul language, the more you’ll be noticed.

Some of what is said on the Oscars are things I would never say in front of a woman. But, to Hollywood liberals, this is a matter of course–a commonplace day-to-day thing.

No wonder those champagne socialists only date each other, and invariably break up: No one in middle America, of us regular folk, would tolerate them for five minutes on a date, let alone bring one of them home to Mom for Thanksgiving dinner.

Lily on September 27, 2012 at 6:30 PM

I’m done with any movie he’s in. Not giving my money to these morons.

You know something.. people knock boycotts, but the government believes in them and has been using them effectively for years. Think school lunch program, just to name one. If the schools don’t bow.. Washington boycotts. No money for school lunches. Remember when Rick Perry threatened to hold the TSA accountable for something? Can’t remember what it was.. but Washington immediately threatened to boycott Texas… no more flights to Texas.

Big government always threatens to boycott it’s money if the states don’t bow. And it always works… and yet people say boycotts don’t work.

Oh.. and this is also very related. Came across an interesting video on pre-code Hollywood. Hollywood movies were filled with trash in the 30′s. Homosexuality, promiscuity, nudity. Then the Catholic church took action.. sent petitions around to all their churches and people pledged no more movies. Eventually Hollywood buckled. They regulated themselves and cleaned up their movies appointing a priest, rabbi and a protestant to set the movie guidelines which were adopted and stayed in place clear until the 50′s.

I’ll repeat what I commented to my liberal family member who thought this video was funny.

I might have trouble sleeping tonight like that little girl. What if Jackson sneaks into my house uninvited and starts yelling obscenities and ignorance at me and my family. If that wasn’t enough, the fear of knowing that Jackson gained entry with the help from George Soros might keep me up for days. ;)

Is it just me or would anyone else be freaked out by Jackson showing up in your bedroom at just the wrong time?

shick on September 27, 2012 at 6:38 PM

JellyToast on September 27, 2012 at 6:31 PM

I don’t look at it as a boycott. I think of it as not funding my enemy. If there is someone who I KNOW wishes me ill or even dead, it only makes sense to not fund their efforts. In the economy we have today, I prefer to spend my money with people who think like me. Let the liberals find out how well they can get along without our money. They need to be starved.

Obama’s sad voters could feel their strength ebb.

Where once they were charmed by that gentleman dapper,
The Hope and the Change had all gone down the crapper.

George Soros’s son saw the wall and its writing:
“We’ve got to inspire them, we’ve got to keep fighting!

“There must be some way to shake up Barry’s masses
Or on Nov. 6, they’ll just sit on their asses.

“But how to enthuse all those grim, depressed people
And warn of the dangers of Mitt Romney’s evil?”

“I’m here to assist you, and I’ve got your back, son,”
Intoned the stern voice of one Samuel L. Jackson.

A millionaire actor reciting a rhyme?
Pretending he’s poor, so the rich he can slime?

No slur goes unmentioned, no talking point skipped,
Just pack all that crap in a four-minute script.

And using a child for political gain?
It’s as if the left has no concept of shame.

Just kidding, you wingnuts, you baggers of tea.
You must not be fans of adept irony!

The truth is so clear that you might as well face it:
If you vote for Romney, you’re just a damn racist.

Then we heard Sam exclaim as he soared out of view:
“Free stuff from Obama! Don’t like it? F*** you!”

LMAO!

For a man whose had so many successes, he sure sounds bitter and angry all the time.

“Rules for Radicals” was just a clever way of hiding the true title “How to be a successful sociopath”.

That’s what we’re dealing with now. Progressive is sociopathic.

I agree. Alinsky was a sociopath. I think he was on purpose. It’s pretty evident from his book.

This is the reality Romney has to face while debating Obama next week. Attacking him on policy failures alone will not cut it, he has to go after his character and personality, if he fails to expose Obama to low info voters then we are looking at another 4 years of socialism.

celticdefender on September 27, 2012 at 4:52 PM

Yes if Romney goes into the debate with his “Obama is a nice guy” attitude he is toast.

Obama is not nice in any way. Obama is a thug who by his own words brings a gun to every knife fight.

Romney’s only chance it to:

1) Attack harshly the Shill for Obama moderator. Call him/her out loudly every time he ask a biased question or seeks to help Obama.

2) Personally attack Obama on his lies and distortations. Like Reagan “there you go again” But he will have to be stronger saying something like. “Just another Obama Lie” That is my response. Now here are the facts. The recession was caused by the crash of the Housing Market because of the easy lending practices Obama and his Democratic friends pushed through. The average house has lost 40% of it’s value since Obama became President because of laws written by Democrats like Barny Frank. Excuse me Obama but you voted for that last Bush Budget it is far more your budget than Bush’s seeing how you and your Democratic friends controlled both houses of Congress. In fact Mr Obama you were the one that signed the actual budget into law.

Unfortunately I see Mitt as coming off weak. But I sure wish he would come out strong. America needs that.

May his career take the same nosedive as Oprah’s did when she latched onto the Obama bandwagon.
