Obama ad: “Time for a new economic patriotism”

posted at 11:21 am on September 27, 2012 by Erika Johnsen

Yesterday, Mitt Romney released a one-minute ad in which he spoke directly into the camera about the failures of Obama’s economic policy — and it looks like Team Obama followed suit (upping the ante with a two-minute ad spot, mmm hmm), having the president talk in a face-to-face format about his economic plan for the next four years. I suppose we’re meant to believe that this is what “giving specifics” on an “economic plan” looks like:

Now, Governor Romney believes that with that even bigger tax cuts for the wealthy and fewer regulations on Wall Street all of us will prosper. In other words he’d double down on the same trickle down policies that led to the crisis in the first place. So what’s my plan?

Enough with the big, fat “the same policies that got us here in the first place” lie. It’s hogwash.

First, we create a million new manufacturing jobs and help businesses double their exports. Give tax breaks to companies that invest in America, not that ship jobs overseas.

Pardon me, but how is it that you’re going to create these million marvelous manufacturing jobs when you’ve only failed spectacularly so far? Because giving tax breaks, a.k.a. providing subsidies, a.k.a. picking economic winners and losers, for your preferred businesses does not create jobs. And enough with this relentless demonization of “shipping jobs overseas” — if doing so helps us to obtain goods and services more cheaply and efficiently, which it does, that can and does create jobs, because that means we all have more disposable income and thereby are all wealthier.

Second, we cut our oil imports in half and produce more American-made energy, oil, clean-coal, natural gas, and new resources like wind, solar and bio-fuels—all while doubling the fuel efficiencies of cars and trucks.

No. Your administration has been steadily and purposefully impairing Americans’ ability to tap into our own abundant natural resources and blocking business opportunities for natural gas; clean coal is an expensive and costly nightmare; and your record on coercing Americans into using more wind/solar/biofuels — which currently hold exactly zero serious potential as viable, widespread substitutes for oil and gas — has failed tremendously, as have your many “green jobs” initiatives.

Third, we insure that we maintain the best workforce in the world by preparing 100,000 additional math and science teachers. Training 2 million Americans with the job skills they need at our community colleges. Cutting the growth of tuition in half and expanding student aid so more Americans can afford it.

Is this code for “more stimulus”, which translates into spending even more money we don’t have? Who is going to perform and pay for all of this additional training, exactly? Oh, let me guess — the federal government. Whoop-de-doo. And does anybody in your august administration realize that subsidizing student aid so that more Americans can afford going to college is going to hike demand — which is going to make tuition even more expensive? You can’t have it both ways, and hey, it might be nice of all of those college graduates could find jobs and maybe become capable of paying off all of that debt.

Fourth, a balanced plan to reduce our deficit by four trillion dollars over the next decade on top of the trillion in spending we’ve already cut, I’d ask the wealthy to pay a little more. And as we end the war in Afghanistan let’s apply half the savings to pay down our debt and use the rest for some nation building right here at home.

Even if I believed that you were going to suddenly reverse your trend of growing more than trillion-dollar annual deficits (which, given all that government spending implied above, I don’t), taxing the wealthy more isn’t going to necessarily increase revenue by much — and the damage to our economy is going to be infinitely worse.

It’s time for a new economic patriotism. Rooted in the belief that growing our economy begins with a strong, thriving middle class. Read my plan. Compare it to Governor Romney’s and decide for yourself. Thanks for listening.

“New economic patriotism”? Does that sound severely creepy to anyone else?

“Economic Patriotism” is just the latest euphemism for ‘social justice’, ‘fair share’, wealth redistribution.

Whatever you call it, it’s still an attempt to grab money you didn’t earn.

The US already has the people with the proper skillsets. The only problem is that they will not sink to Third World level wages & conditions. In addition, the younger workers are more easily convinced to endure longer durations of sub-optimal working arrangements (such as extended arrangements of “temporary” work) by these conditions.

Given the current administration, that sounds like they’re still for offshoring of jobs – despite the statement to the contrary. They will not take any action that doesn’t set up the European form of work – tons of temporary workers with very few permanent jobs.

Obama ad: “Time for a new economic patriotism”

What does that even mean?

Patriotism: Loyalty to Barrack Obama

Economic Patriotism: Accepting unemployment, massive debt, and sky-high taxes in order to be loyal to Barrack Obama.

Liberal scum? Please stop, you’re hurting my feelings, lol.

I’m probably more socially conservative than 99% of the people here.

And whether you like it or not, the Obama ads are more effective than the Romney ads. BTW, you could make a great ad out of that lady talking about her free cell phone, but you know Romney would never, ever make an ad that critical of Obama. He’s a wuss who won’t fight back and is content to lose with honor. The problem is that his horrific performance is going to drag down a number of GOP Senate candidates, as well (Thompson, Mack).

I’ll keep telling the truth about this awful, awful campaign. Maybe primary voters will actually get a clue in 2016 and nominate a Conservative who will at least act like they want to win the darn race.

I’m not wrong about many things in politics, but I was way off base when I said on here that the 47% comment wouldn’t hurt that much. Turns out everything went to heck after that and the Obama preference cascade began after it. You can argue whether it was the comment itself or the MSM coverage that caused the tide to turn, but there is no doubt that when the Romney postmortem is written, that gaffe will be mentioned as the moment the election was truly lost for good.

Patriotism is a feeling of love and devotion to one’s own homeland (patria, the land of one’s fathers).

“Economic Patriotism” is an attempt to redirect those feelings of love and devotion to an Economy, rather than a country.

Barack and Michelle Obama’s love and devotion is not to the USA, but rather to “The Road to Socialism USA”.

They don’t love this country, and are not proud of this country. They love, and are proud of, a worldwide socialist/communist/Islamic Caliphate. If that last part is too much for you, then you don’t understand the significance of the fact that Obama has confessed the Shahada in Arabic, and at every step along the way he has stood with the Muslim Brotherhood.

All this crap about gaffes, speeches, ads, debates, etc… would not matter… At the end every elections with a President running for re-election would be about his record and nothing else, he need to give the people a reason to vote for him again…

A majority of voters at the end are going to ask the simplest but most important question: “Do we want for more years of this misery and failure?”… Their answer would be “No, hell No”…

“What have you been “right” about so far?”

I’ve been 100% right on the money about this Presidential election.

Even down to minuscule details like the lack of volunteers here in WI before anyone mentioned it. That issue was brought up by a different talk radio host this morning (Jay Weber on WISN). I also said Tommy Thompson was in trouble before any of the bad polling came out.

Here’s a prediction…Romney will be weak (as in afraid to attack) in the debate next week and the polls will hold as they are.

And I’ll be right on my electoral prediction…

Obama wins all of his 2008 states minus NC and IN for another electoral landslide.

I’ll enjoy rubbing your nose in the landslide stink more than anyone else, Del. Your partisan spinning does nobody any good. That nonsense turned out to be a lie in 08 and it’s a lie this year, too.

What if people know that Obama sucks and they don’t care because he’s likeable and Romney isn’t?

“All this crap about gaffes, speeches, ads, debates, etc… would not matter… At the end every elections with a President running for re-election would be about his record and nothing else, he need to give the people a reason to vote for him again…”

That’s usually true. The problem this year is that the incumbent is incredibly personally popular and the challenger is almost hated. So even people who are suffering under Obama’s policies are going to vote for him.

And I don’t discount the media’s role in this at all. ESPN has been championing Obama all day as the reason the referee strike was settled. It’s hard to compete with that kind of free publicity, and doubly hard when Romney doesn’t bother to advertise on cable and never seems to go to any football or baseball games and doesn’t connect with the average guy. Bush had a likability advantage over Kerry that was crucial in their close election.

gumbyandpokey on September 27, 2012 at 7:09 PM

“What if people know that Obama sucks and they don’t care because he’s likeable and Romney isn’t?”

That’s the story of this election in a nutshell.

The only chance Romney had was to pound Obama unmercifully and try to hammer into the voter’s heads just how much of a disaster he’s been. It probably would not have worked, but he couldn’t have been in a worse position than he’s in now.

gumbyandpokey on September 27, 2012 at 7:12 PM

And in other news, Connie Mack is blowing it in Florida for the Senate, and Rick Scott has a big ongoing problem in the polls…he’s poison to Florida Republicans running for state office.

Unless it’s all just Leftist propaganda, approval ratings for Governors Brewer, Walker, Deal, Snyder, Kasich, and Corbett are all under 50% now. At least Jindal is up around 60% approval.

The majority of the swing states are looking pretty bad for the GOP, too.

In Scott’s case, it’s personality. But I don’t know about the others. People are getting pretty impatient and it could that they’re seeing austerity concerning government services, but no economic improvement under Republicans. I would maintain that we aren’t going to see better economies locally until something is changed at the national level.

Also, if voters are souring on the GOP in many states, then why would we expect Romney to do any better?

Romney may have been inarticulate, but he was very, very right. Obama sits at 47% no matter how bad he does, says or thinks.

Frightening.

It means the chocolate ration will be cut, brother.

It’s time for a new economic patriotism.

That just screams fascism. And, yes, I’m rereading Jonah Goldberg’s book. Smiley-face fascism, indeed.

When you consider all of the lies, obfuscations and blatant failures of this charlatan we should see Romney with a 15 point lead in all polls. The fact that at least half of the voting public still supports him leads one to conclude that it is a losing cause and that a majority of the population is beyond hope or reason. Also we should probably prepare to say goodbye to this once great Republic and either resign ourselves to life in a socialist/Marxist state or look for another place on this planet. Who would have thought this could happen in this country?

This book, perhaps?

Thank you for the book link. Though I do not read much socialist biographies, just in the description some things jumped out at me:

“It was the experiences of the USSR during the Great Patriotic War that convinced him of the potential that lay within the patriotic motif. In the post-war years Stalin held up the nation and its national community as the main source of hope for defeating the bourgeoisie. Socialism allied with patriotism was the best way to defend the interests of the nation.”

Obama’s “Economic Patriotism” is clearly an outgrowth of Stalinist thought.

“What does that even mean?”

It means the chocolate ration is being cut.
