McCain: “It was obvious … this was a planned attack”

posted at 12:41 pm on September 27, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

John McCain had a contentious appearance on CBS News’ This Morning today, which is not to say he had a tough appearance.  After scoffing at the initial Obama administration’s story that the sacking of the Benghazi consulate came from a spontaneous demonstration gone bad, McCain suggested that the White House put out that fantasy story line to bolster their contention that al-Qaeda presents no threat after the demise of Osama bin Laden.  Norah O’Donnell tried to challenge McCain on his conclusion that heavy weapons and coordinated fire couldn’t be a spontaneous demonstration, which McCain handles in rather short order.  O’Donnell and Charlie Rose quickly change the subject after McCain directs his scorn towards O’Donnell:

Senator John McCain, R-Ariz., has been highly critical of the Obama administration’s handling of the U.S. Consulate attacks in Libya and Thursday morning, he called the response of the White House, along with Ambassador Susan Rice and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, “unbelievable. The senator maintained there is no way that it was a spontaneous attack. “Like they say, ‘Come on honey, bring your mortars, we’re going to a spontaneous demonstration,” McCain said of the claims that the violence escalated from an impromptu demonstration outside of the consulate building.

“It was obvious…this was a planned attack,” he said Thursday on “CBS This Morning.” He was referring specifically to comments made nearly two weeks ago by U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice who said the attacks that lead to the death of four Americans, including U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens, were “spontaneous.”

“It shows a fundamental misunderstanding of warfare and what’s going on in that part of the world,” McCain, the top Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee, said.

“Anybody who understands warfare knows that is not a spontaneous demonstration,” he said. “They carried heavy weapons, mortars, RPGs,” adding, “I think this was an orchestrated attack.”

McCain also scolded the White House for at least “incredible naiveté” in their insistence on blaming the attack and other embassy sieges — which are still in progress, by the way, and spreading — on a months-old YouTube video.  The radical Islamists behind the terror networks are using the video to stoke the riots, but it’s simple PR exploitation for their larger purposes.

Bombshell – we lost the consulate and the city of Benghazi

From Bob Baer on AC360 last night

The FBI can’t fight it’s way into a crime scene…

I’ve heard that this quick reaction force tried to get to the consulate but was attacked at the airport, Benghazi airport. This hasn’t been confirmed, but what’s happened in Libya is we’ve lost complete control of this.

And every investigation I’ve been involved in, whether assassination or blown-up embassy, there’s always been a local force or Marines to secure the site, otherwise the FBI can’t do its work. It just can’t. If it’s completely wrecked like it was in Benghazi, and I think the reason that the State Department is so sensitive about your finding the journal is because they’ve lost control.

This is a multi-layered lie.

1. Peel back the film

2. Peel back the consulate demonstration

3. Peel back the consulate attack

4. Peel back the FBI investigation

5. Peel back the fact that even our special ops teams can’t get to the consulate – even today

6. Peel back that we were even attacked at the airport trying to rescue ALL Americans from the city

Seething Midwest Explodes Over Lombardi Cartoons
Feb 2006
**********

Green Bay, WI – Like a pot of bratwurst left unattended at a Lambeau Field pregame party, simmering tensions in the strife-torn Midwest boiled over once again today as rioting mobs of green-and-gold clad youth and plump farm wives rampaged through Wisconsin Denny’s and IHOPs, burning Texas toast and demanding apologies and extra half-and-half.

The spark igniting the latest tailgate hibachi of unrest: a Texas newsletter’s publication of caricatures of legendary Green Bay Packers coach Vince Lombardi.

Protestors demonstrated against the images throughout the Badger State yesterday, with violent egging and cow-tipping incidents reported in Oconomowac, Pewaukee, Sheboygan, Ozaukee, Antigo, Oshkosh, Waubeno, Wauwautosa, Waunewoc, Wyocena, Waubeka, and Washawonamowackapeepee.

Some of the most dramatic skirmishes were centered around Kenosha, where a mob of masked snowmobilers invaded the Texas Roadhouse on I-94, briefly holding the margarita machine hostage. They were later seen storming the beverage department at Woodman’s, where they purchased several cases of Point and a pack of Merit menthols, and later at the Brat Stop classic rock/sausage outlet, where they were reported angrily “boogie-ing out” on air guitar to featured entertainment Molly Hatchett.

But by far the fiercest demonstration took place in Green Bay’s Lambeau Shrine parking lot where throngs of Packer faithful burned Texas flags and effigies of Roger Staubach as Lutheran pastors led them in chants of “Those who defame the Vince suck” and “Favre is Great.” Many of the frenzied demonstrators were seen ritualistically beating themselves with mozzarella sticks.(More…)

I’d say he has inside sources who are telling him “We have lost Libya.” and who are giving him the background material to support the statement.

My take from a political standpoint is the White House and Department of State are at each other’s throats.

I suspect because she and the rest of her kind are humiliated for simply taking Obama’s initial word without question, instead of doing was reporters are supposed to do: dig for the whole story.

Obama stabbed them in the back by finally coming out with the truth, when they (the MSM) bought into the lie for more than a week and screeched like rabid banshees at any question of the official line.

Worse than a liar are those who blindly accept his lies, when all evidence of the truth is either already before them or easily discerned.

The Ironic part is that if McCain would’ve been that aggressive in the 2008 campaign… he would be POTUS! If the Marxist Messiah, would’ve had to answer any real questions, there’s no telling what would’ve happened. Hening on September 27, 2012 at 1:12 PM

Two things:

1) McCain is right.

2) the reason the administration sent America’s UN ambassador to spread the lies instead of some Deputy Secretary in the State Department is because Obama wanted America’s ‘response’ to be consistent with his (then) upcoming speech at the UN. It was the film, you see, and we can’t have a world where the prophet Mohammed is slandered. His strategy is ‘peace through appeasement’. Because, historically, that strategy has worked wonders. /s

This should be the incident that takes Obama down. We now watch to see if the American public doesn’t care if King Obama lies right to our faces.

JPeterman on September 27, 2012 at 1:21 PM

I’ll quote myself from the previous thread. At the moment, the Americans are split three groups, one of which being too stupid, the other too busy, and the third too brainwashed by the academia to care about foreign policy.

You are correct on the stupid part. Watch it and weep for our country.

*******Irony Alert!!*******

Funny McCain is complaining considering he came to the STRONG DEFENSE of Huma Abedin being associated with the Muslim Brotherhood.

Unless he’s announcing his retirement, i don’t ever need to hear or read anything about McCain for the rest of my life.

Except for Joe Wilson, are politicians unable to say the word “lie”?

Added to the Madonna irony pile. McCain is a tool, too. I went back and forth on whether to use fool or tool here. I settled on tool.

I have a question.

Is John McCain running for President?

No?

Do McCain-related posts ever generate a lot of hits or comments?

No?

I frankly don’t care what John McCain has to say about anything.

And yet he gets a blog post for something he said, and yet we rarely ever get blog posts on what Mitt Romney, who is running for President, is saying on the stump at actual campaign stops.

Please, Ed. More Mitt, less McCain. The MSM has already instituted a de facto blackout on Mitt.

U.S. Army Lieutenant General (Ret.) William Jerry Boykin claims that individuals with connections to the Muslim Brotherhood hold security clearances in both the Pentagon and the Department of Defense…

…Muslim Brotherhood may have ties with Huma Abedin, Sec. of State Hillary Clinton’s Deputy Chief of Staff.

h/t Schad

This is the part I added below.

This should be investigated. Hillary please step down you are a disgrace. Have you no shame? I guess not, you let Bill romp around with interns and you lie like a prayer rug.

I added this part as a concerned citizen. Time for an Arab Spring Cleaning. Your linens smell like Islam.

SparkPlug on September 27, 2012 at 4:01 PM

Hey McCain, in case you forgot, Gaddafi kept the crazies in check.

You backed this Arab Sprin. Don’t act so innocent. You mean you didn’t think for a second that the crazies would get into a position to oppress and attack?

Philo Beddoe on September 27, 2012 at 1:02 PM

McCain has lost a lot of credibility. He didn’t back Romney when he held a Press Conference on 9/12/12 nor when Romney spoke out on 9/11/12 right after the Benghazi attack.

Mr. McCain’s longtime adviser Mark Salter chastised Mr. Romney for “unfair and hyperbolic sound bites.”

McCain didn’t rebuke Salter either, but let his comments stand.

Too bad those extensive warnings weren’t given prior to 9/11/12!!

One would almost think those warnings were withheld….

bluefox on September 27, 2012 at 4:38 PM

Take a closer look at the non-verbal cues given off by Rose and in particular O’Donnell. Leaning back, eyes lidded, excessive blinking. There was some serious hostility. A bushwacking was supposed to take place and it’s clear O’Donnell was supposed to do the attack. Kudos to McCain for throwing it back at her.

He and many others fail when “reporters” go to the next question starting out with statements about campaign in turmoil and can Romney get it together. Where is the unified response to these attempts to paint a false narrative? Christie slammed Stephanopolis by not even letting him get there, and Ryan blows right through the feigned concern, but only Sununu rips them to shreds on their bias, and they are done letting him near their microphones.

Gingrich has to amp it up. He was at his best schooling media at every turn. Every question he first explained the bias behind the question, then the reason for the bias, then he ripped into the questioners, then he ripped into the issue.
