Quotes of the day

posted at 10:22 pm on September 25, 2012 by Allahpundit

Video emerged on Tuesday showing supporters of Senator Scott P. Brown making tomahawk gestures with their arms and yelling Indian war whoops at supporters of Elizabeth Warren, his Democratic challenger, outside a pub on Saturday. The gestures were meant to mock Ms. Warren’s assertions, for which she has offered no documentation, that she has Native American ancestry.

When reporters asked Mr. Brown about the gestures, he said he did not condone such behavior. But, he added, “the real offense here was that Professor Warren checked the box,” indicating that she was Native American, and “claimed something she wasn’t entitled to.” The issue, he said, “goes to her character.”

While she claims to be representing “the little guy,” Mr. Brown says, she was actually a “hired gun” for Travelers Insurance against victims of asbestos poisoning and for the LTV Steel Company when it was trying to avoid paying health benefits for its retirees. She earned $350,000 in one year at Harvard, he says, while teaching only one course.

And in what has become perhaps the signature issue of the campaign, Mr. Brown says she “falsely” claimed to be a Native American, “a person of color,” when she applied for law school teaching jobs in the 1980s and ’90s, and “took advantage of a status that was only entitled to people of true need.”

***

Elizabeth Warren stood beside asbestos union workers Tuesday and accused Senator Scott Brown of running a distraction campaign, hours after the senator said that she served as a “hired gun” for two corporate clients.

“I’m not opposed to people making a living and representing businesses,” Brown, a Republican, told reporters in front of South Station. “But when you’re out there saying, by the way I’m representing the little guy and the middle class and in fact, we find out that’s not true, that’s an issue. That’s an issue of honesty and character.”…

“He will talk about anything not to have to talk about his own voting record,” Warren said.

***

Joan Hoffman, a Brown supporter from Boston, points out that Warren aired the first attack ad in this race.

“If he continues to play the good guy, and she keeps throwing these barbs at him, he’s gonna show a sign of weakness,” says Hoffman. “He does have to defend himself.”

Still, if Brown continues to launch personal attacks against Warren for the next six weeks, voters may not be so forgiving. Especially in a race where both candidates signed what they called the “People’s Pledge” to keep often vicious, third-party ads out. Earlier this year, Brown boasted that the race was “serving as a model for the rest of the nation.”

***

Incumbent Republican Scott Brown and his Democratic challenger Elizabeth Warren remain tied in the U.S. Senate race in Massachusetts.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Massachusetts Voters finds Brown and Warren each picking up 48% of the vote. One percent (1%) prefers some other candidate, while three percent (3%) are undecided.

Well of course it wasn’t. That video was around since July. BUT…. The filthy rat-eared bastard is pushing the excuse for one reason and one reason only. It absolves the administration of any fault.

Nevermind the lax security in an area teeming with terrorist wannabes. Nevermind the inability to keep our embassies and diplomats safe throughout the region. Nevermind the fact that bowing to our enemies didn’t pay off. Obama has found a ready-made excuse when he can point to that stupid 13-minute video and say it wasn’t us it was that.

Follow-up question. If a stupid 13-minute video can ignite the region what happens when the Obama-sponsored movie of him “getting” OBL is released. Unlike the video this had the willing cooperation of the administration to the point the bastards compromised national security to provide details on just how brave and decisive the rat-eared bastard was when he was out there fretting over hole six and what club to use.

Flora Duh on September 26, 2012 at 7:49 AM

No doubt (as many Americans currently do). But your parents, and George Romney (along with retirees) have to be counted in order to get to Romney’s “47%” of people who he claims are “victims” and “dependent.” So were your parents victims? Romney’s comments suggest, in fact, that upward mobility off of government is *impossible* by including every single person who qualifies for the EIC or Social Security, let alone people who are temporarily on aid. It was a stunning statement, which is why he’s losing (though not as badly as the Quinnipiac polls say).

libfreeordie on September 26, 2012 at 7:55 AM

From what I can tell, Obama doesn’t seem to be a particularly religious or spiritual man. His choice of church (Jeremiah Wright’s) seemed like a politically opportunistic way of bolstering his blackness credentials more than anything. And, yeah, I think his anti-western/anti-imperialistic tendencies cause him to want to sympathize with Muslims more than others.

Yes. Funny, the lib trolls never mention this quote from Obama’s “redistribution tape.”

Obama also said he viewed welfare recipients and “the working poor” as “a majority coalition” that could be mobilized to help advance progressive policies and elect their champions.

That’s the 47% Romney knows will never vote for him.

Of course she didn’t quote the 47%, there’s footage of her when George was running for President where she talks about how essential federal welfare programs were for his survival when he first came to the U.S., she praised the role the government plays in assisting the poor. Her own son, however, having never known a day of economic hardship in his life views people like his father as victim moochers. Its powerful.

Mitt Romney thinks there’s something wrong with people who are working, but still poor? We agree, and that is exactly why he’s going to lose. He has contempt for the “working poor.” The notion that you people believe the Democrats are engaging in class warfare is hilarious. Your candidate in 2012 (not in the mid 1990s) divided the country in half and said “those people are useless to me.” Congrats, that’s your candidate. But you have some very severe cognitive dissonance on this isssue, no amount of reason will help you. I’ve posted this before, but Toni Morrison continues to pinpoint exactly what is going on in the heads of many anti-Obama supporters, even as they watch their candidate denigrate them as “victims” “takers” and “dependents.”

Incorrect, that’s the “who you will vote for” breakdown, the party ID is at the bottom of the poll.

FL:

DEM: 36

OH

IN: 35

PA

Pennsylvania is the worst sample. But the other two (while bad) suggest Obama is winning Independents.

Seriously? We’re doing logical proofs in here? I think its really obvious that if you switched the order of that sentence, it very easily becomes an “if…then” statement, which is a perfectly acceptable hypothetical statement. Isn’t it true that conservatives say things like “if Obama is re-elected then the nation will die?” Why are those hypotheticals OK but me pointing out that if Mitt Romney today had been making policy decisions when his father came to the U.S. his father would have been denied the welfare assistance that got him on his feet in this country is not OK? Whatever.

The socialism that you promote under the guise of fairness and compassion kills the middle class eventually leaving only the underclass and the ruling class. It always has.

The way to crush the bourgeoisie (taxpayers, middle class, small business owners) is to grind them between the millstones of taxation and inflation. –Vladimir Ilyich Lenin

We are all becoming the working poor by entitlement entrapment, by government dependency and enslavement, and it’s by design. Obama (with the help of many Democrats and some Republicans) is replacing the working middle class with an entitlement dependent working poor. And, they are expected to vote for their subsistence. C’mon, you must know this.

One thing to keep in mind. The way the federal income tax is withheld is a legacy of FDR who needed the money to flow regularly to keep his wealth redistribution schemes on track. I would like to go back to the old system where the government gets their money once a year and it is up to the individual citizen to make sure he/she has the money to pay the tax bill when it comes due. We would have a tiny government in months if taxpayers were forced to write a check for what they are paying in taxes. And they’d be far less tolerant of filthy grifters like Mooch.

People who are offended by Romneys remarks sound like spoiled children to me and only someone who sees themselves as a “victim moocher” would be offended. Stop blaming the messenger. The fact that YOU are offended for others, speaks volumes. Sorry, but you represent no one, but yourself. Happy Nomad on September 26, 2012 at 8:53 AM

I am sorry you had such a horrible professor, I’d love to have you in my class. You’d understand we’re not all like that. And one of the reasons I come around here (believe it or not) is to understand better where conservative students come from. Teaching is performance. I perform objectivity extremely well in the space of the classroom because I genuinely believe an examination of primary sources demonstrate my perspective on the American past is correct. But I’ve never told a student they were wrong based upon politics, only if they present factually incorrect information in class discussion. Many of us have integrity. Again, I’m sorry you had a bad experience.

libfreeordie on September 26, 2012 at 9:00 AM

If it were a “college professor”, it would certainly serve as the textbook example of the moocher class; on the public dole and spending every day doing nothing other than OFA trolling.

That’s why it’s a good thing it only plays a perfessor online. It would be a disaster to have it actually around young, impressionable minds.

whatcat on September 26, 2012 at 9:02 AM

So you’re in favor of eliminating all FHA loans, all federal small business loans, all corporate subsidies, including oil and gas, all food stamps, federal subsidized children’s health insurance, medicaid (which helps many a senior citizen)?

libfreeordie on September 26, 2012 at 8:54 AM

Yes every damn one of them and more.

Unfortunately, it really is a professor. A few months back someone here was able to take some of the “clues” that the oh so smaht perfessor divulged, track him down online, and posted the link to his faculty page.

I didn’t see it, but I understand he teaches one of those “feel-good” courses.

Ed removed the link and warned anyone doing something like that again is history.

Flora Duh on September 26, 2012 at 9:15 AM

I won’t go out of my way to antagonize her, but if she starts with her silly birther-promoting posts again, then I may feel inclined to respond.

Unless it fessed up to being outed, I wouldn’t put much stock in it. Besides, if you’re doing nothing 24/7-365 other than obsessively and singularly trolling HA that just doesn’t leave much time to even pretend to doing something that looks like work.

That 2nd part should yield a clue – a real resident of the public-teat moocher class wouldn’t risk losing it’s job and tenure if it had one to lose. The internet is forever.

Incorrect, that’s the “who you will vote for” breakdown, the party ID is at the bottom of the poll.

FL:
GOP: 27
DEM: 36
IND: 33

OH
GOP: 26
DEM: 35
IN: 35

PA
GOP: 28
DEM: 39
IND: 27

Pennsylvania is the worst sample. But the other two (while bad) suggest Obama is winning Independents.

libfreeordie on September 26, 2012 at 8:07 AM

Actually, the “who will you vote for” is 53-44 Obama in FL and 53-43 Obama in Ohio. But even if your partisan splits are correct, if Obama is getting all the Dems and Romney all the Reps, then Indies are split 14-14 in Florida and 18-17 Obama in Ohio.

BTW, the Florida Secretary of State lists voter registration as 40% Democrat, 36% Republican, and 24% Independent. If turnout is proportional to registration, Obama wins Florida by only 4% with an even split of Independents. Romney can still win by either turning out more Republicans than Democrats, and/or winning Independents.

Cindy Munford on September 26, 2012 at 4:57 PM

Please don’t call libfreeordie names or insult him/her in ways he/she has trouble understanding. He/she is a product of being promoted because he/she totally believes in the “Party” without need for any facts and has the ability to throw superfluous information back at you to hide the “Party’s” deception.

Example: “I am sorry you had such a horrible professor, I’d love to have you in my class. You’d understand we’re not all like that. And one of the reasons I come around here (believe it or not) is to understand better where conservative students come from. Teaching is performance. But I’ve never told a student they were wrong based upon politics, only if they present factually incorrect information in class discussion. Many of us have integrity. Again, I’m sorry you had a bad experience,” Libfreeordie.

His/her cacophony of sounds does sound good. There sure is nothing that is provable. You’ve had a bad experience with “them” (them and they are never defined but their very stupid bad people). I have integrity. All my information is genuine and well researched, and of course correct.

Libfreeordie please keep on subject. Sen. Scott Brown did not condone the behavior of his supporters mocking Ms. Warren. Ms. Warren still hasn’t shown that she didn’t use her faux status as Native American to claim something she wasn’t entitled to. And…and she never proved that she wasn’t a hired gun” for Travelers Insurance against victims of asbestos poisoning and for the LTV Steel Company when it was trying to avoid paying health benefits for its retirees. Now let’s add that she was a one course teacher earning 350,000 roubles per year. Wow!

And guess what they’re tied in the polls. I guess you can lie, cheat and hide things in Massachusetts if you’re the right party. I hope someone reports on what’s happening in this election. I’m interested in the truth – good or bad. I thought actions had consequences.
