Obama: “The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam”

posted at 2:01 pm on September 25, 2012 by Erika Johnsen

President Obama addressed the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York on Tuesday morning, and while there were a few moments when he at least talked a good game on free speech, there were also moments that left much to be desired on that same front and on the real nature of the root causes of unrest in the Middle East.

Here are some key excerpts (you can read the full prepared remarks here):

But the attacks of the last two weeks are not simply an assault on America. They are also an assault on the very ideals upon which the United Nations was founded – the notion that people can resolve their differences peacefully; that diplomacy can take the place of war; and that in an interdependent world, all of us have a stake in working towards greater opportunity and security for our citizens.

If we are serious about upholding these ideals, it will not be enough to put more guards in front of an Embassy; or to put out statements of regret, and wait for the outrage to pass. If we are serious about those ideals, we must speak honestly about the deeper causes of this crisis. Because we face a choice between the forces that would drive us apart, and the hopes we hold in common.

Today, we must affirm that our future will be determined by people like Chris Stevens, and not by his killers. Today, we must declare that this violence and intolerance has no place among our United Nations.

So far, not bad. But then, for some reason, the president felt the need to bring in, criticize, and apologize for the YouTube video that we’re to believe was the catalyst that sparked these inexcusable recent events — even though, really, that video is not what any of this is or should be about at all, and I’m not really sure why it’s something the president feels the continual need to explain away.

That is what we saw play out the last two weeks, as a crude and disgusting video sparked outrage throughout the Muslim world. I have made it clear that the United States government had nothing to do with this video, and I believe its message must be rejected by all who respect our common humanity. It is an insult not only to Muslims, but to America as well – for as the city outside these walls makes clear, we are a country that has welcomed people of every race and religion. We are home to Muslims who worship across our country. We not only respect the freedom of religion – we have laws that protect individuals from being harmed because of how they look or what they believe. We understand why people take offense to this video because millions of our citizens are among them.

I know there are some who ask why we don’t just ban such a video. The answer is enshrined in our laws: our Constitution protects the right to practice free speech. Here in the United States, countless publications provoke offense. Like me, the majority of Americans are Christian, and yet we do not ban blasphemy against our most sacred beliefs. Moreover, as President of our country, and Commander-in-Chief of our military, I accept that people are going to call me awful things every day, and I will always defend their right to do so. Americans have fought and died around the globe to protect the right of all people to express their views – even views that we disagree with.

Again, not a bad rundown of our free-speech values, but if we believe that all people have a right to express their views, even ones with which we disagree, why are we still talking about this dumb video? The video is not the point. The Obama administration has already had to revise their original version of the chaos in Libya and labeled it as the terrorism that it was, but President Obama conspicuously failed to mention terrorism in relation to Libya in his speech. Why do I feel like this was a speech designed to sound so-so on promoting our American values but simultaneously pander to the people who would criticize us for them? There was an opportunity for a real display of strength and courage here in the wake of all of this unacceptable violence, and the president declined to take it.

Here’s a reaction from former UN Ambassador John Bolton:

Organizations are not citizens.

Keep treating the citizens that run those organizations like lifeless automatons. Continue your crusade to dehumanize your opponents. Looks good on ya.

You imbecile, there is no law preventing you from shouting “Fire” in a crowded theater. There is a law penalizing you for shouting “Fire” in a crowded theater when there is no fire though. Just like their are laws that penalize you for intentionally inciting a riot. These laws are predicated upon the basic concept that your rights end where mine begin.

Is this done assuming that the reasons stated by the prescribers are accurate reasons and not just prescriptions written in a manner that an insurer will cover? In many cases insures cover OCPs for cramps but not for birth control and writing the script for cramps gets around the insurer. I think there is a possible untraceable skew in this study.

“Play out”??? Peculiar phrasing.

Look, Preezy, the Muslim leaders, religious and otherwise, selectively chose a silly video trailer among so many available on the Internet, including their own inflammatory propaganda ones, and used it to stir up chaos on a date still painful for Americans for its senseless loss of lives.

Stop being so self-serving and covering your own administration’s ineptness and poor security practices. you putz.

Because almost everything this guy (Prezident Downgrade) says is a mishmash of academic hooey combined with mediocre legaleze designed and written by polysci majors who think they understand the psyche of their opponents and their audiences.

“The thing is: Our Professor-President has a way of stringing phrases along in what actually ultimately congeals into a sentence that is weirdly arranged but completely grammatical, that conveys the feeling of intelligence and thoughtfulness but — if you pull it apart — yields no significant meaning. But you’re not supposed to pull it apart. Why would you do that? It was so lovely, so lulling… so likeable…”

Just in case anyone forgets….
……….this is how Obama talks about Americans who disagree with him:

Obama: ‘If They Bring a Knife to the Fight, We Bring a Gun’

Obama’s turnout pitch to Latinos: Get out there and punish your “enemies”

…….

Obama: ‘If They Bring a Knife to the Fight, We Bring a Gun’

We’re gonna punish our enemies and we’re gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us,’

“I won’t you to argue with them and get in their face”

…and this is how he talks to the muslim radicals that have killed thousands and thousands of Americans in the name of Allah:

‘THE FUTURE MUST NOT BELONG TO THOSE WHO SLANDER THE PROPHET OF ISLAM’…

…as usual…Obama saves his anger and resentment for his political opponents at home while displaying nothing but weakness and nativity to the enemies of freedom and a brutal people who want us dead….and are killing us by the thousands.

The enemies of liberty are artful and insidious. A counterfeit steals her dress, imitates her manner, forges her signature, assumes her name. But the real name of the deceiver is Licentiousness. Such is her effrontery, that she will charge liberty to her face with imposture; and she will, with shameless front, insist that herself alone is the genuine character, and that herself alone is entitled to the respect, which the genuine character deserves. With the giddy and undiscerning, on whom a deeper impression is made by dauntless impudence than by modest merit, her pretensions are often successful. She receives the honors of liberty, and liberty herself is treated as a traitor and an usurper.

JEM on September 25, 2012 at 4:52 PM

Yes, I fully agree with those who are commenting on that very strange statement of Obama’s; namely, ‘The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam’.

This logically means that ‘Those who slander the prophet of Islam must not have a future.’ This completely negates his defense of free speech.

Baxter Green, exactly right, Obama ‘brings out the guns’ against anyone who disagrees with him. Obama most certainly is NOT open to discussion and debate. Indeed, he refuses to debate. When the GOP and Democrats set up a meeting to discuss the Health Care Plan, Obama insisted that the GOP were allowed ONE question only, and, no rebuttals. That is, the GOP could not confront Obama’s misinformation and outright false data in his answers to them.
That’s his style.
That’s why he doesn’t take questions and goes on talk shows instead where there is no genuine debate.

And what people forget is that Obama, as a clinical narcissist, is extremely skilled in Words. Obama lives only in words. So, he’ll say anything. Anything, in that melodious cadence, with that megawatt smile. But Obama has no capacity to move beyond those Words into the real world of action. Therefore, don’t be taken in by his speeches; remember, he can and will say anything; he’s a Performer – and it’s all empty. That Empty Chair.

So, he can talk and talk about diplomacy, and yet, he refuses to meet with Netanyahu – and this totally negates his stance on ‘let’s talk’. So what if Netanyahu wants some tough decisions? That’s what talk is all about, not just sophisms over beer.

He’s not meeting any world leaders during this session – instead, he’s campaigning. Hillary Clinton is doing the meetings.

He’s insulted a plethora of US allies, including the UK, France, Norway; he’s insulted Americans telling them that their decisions are grounded in ‘anger, religion’ etc.

In his speech today to the United Nations, President Obama stated six times that the attacks across the Islamic world are attributed to a silly video. Furthermore, he refused to use the words terrorist attack in referring to what occurred in Benghazi Libya at our US Consulate on the 11th anniversary of 9-11. He continues to offer up apologies instead of defending our hard earned First Amendment right to freedom of speech and expression. There is no message to this silly video trailer, and it is beneath the dignity and esteem of the Office of the President of the United States to mention it at all. When tolerance becomes a one way street it leads to cultural suicide. I shall not be tolerant of the intolerant. I know about the UN Resolution 1618 which would make any statement deemed by the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) “offensive’ to Islam a crime…..NOT ON MY WATCH FELLAS!

My statement to the United Nations would have been, “The future does not belong to those who attack our Embassies and Consulates and kill our Ambassadors. The Angel of Death in the form of an American Bald Eagle will visit you and wreak havoc and destruction upon your existence”

Read all you can.

Study all the History of Islam with others you can find.

Read their History of the same time and how they understand the excact same times.

Find out all that is possible regarding the teachings of all the different sects.

Make up your own minds based only on hard facts.

Act upon what you know to be true.

Keep it simple and direct.

Society is perfectly capable of “producing shit” with or without the federal government. The entire point of the Constitution is to specifically outline the functions of government.

Basic infrastructure and national defense fall within its purview. Spending trillions of dollars to meddle in the auto industry, the banking industry, the mortgage industry, the student loan industry, the health care industry, and on and on and on, is not.

Just put it in the terms of protecting the headchoppers and stopping people from decrying their violence.

You tell your friends, your family, those you know what is going on.

Make sure they are registered to vote.

Make sure they vote.

That is the duty of you, me and all our fellow citizens who see the lies and the dangers ahead.

Do not be afraid to say that we have all been lied to, repeatedly, and that we have misplaced our trust in institutions and government when we are to be the watchdogs and guardians of liberty and freedom.

There are no free lunches, no ‘guarantee’ of SSA, M&Ms nor of anything else by law when demographics and basic math destroys those seeking to rob the rich to make us all poor. Poor in money, poor in spirit, poor in morals and then slaves to our own ignorance. We are the ones to care for the poor, the sick, the fallen… not our damned government. Government is a necessary evil, in handing it to do the good work we make it a pure evil because we give up our part to do.

Hard times come.

We can get through this as a people if we do the basics.

Protect our liberty and freedom first and foremost. Decry those that attack to intimidate and those who seek to tell us to make our lives easy by having government do what we are charged to do.

I do those things, it is hard, and worth it.

And I prepare for hard times to show I am serious about it because no matter how little life I have, it is worth defending and keeping our liberties so our children and grandchildren can point to us and say: ‘They stood so that we could be free.’

Call things as they are, do as you say, and put meaning into that doing and you will have honor in this life and be remembered as honorable in life.

The rest is up to you.

ajacksonian on September 25, 2012 at 5:59 PM

But then, for some reason, the president felt the need to bring in, criticize, and apologize for the YouTube video that we’re to believe was the catalyst that sparked these inexcusable recent events…

Because ZerObama identifies with the insane IslamoNazis.

Footnote to the future: just as we all laughed at Butt-Boy Bamster’s claims to be a Christian and his declared opposition to gay marriage, and just as we were vindicated hilariously when Barry suddenly decided he was in favor of gay marriage — when this wretch is removed from candidacy he will suddenly lose interest in the church of Jesus Christ. He’s so bad at faking it that he didn’t set foot in a church for the first three years of his Presidency, before pulling out the Bible props for his re-election campaign.

He’s not a very good liar, it’s just that he always has a “good room” to work with.

How can an organization be a citizen? So what if an organization is a ‘social entity’. That’s not the definition of a citizen.

A citizen is a person not a social entity; a citizen is an individual person not an association, and citizenship refers to the legal relation that individual has with the nation or state.

Dave Rywall on September 25, 2012 at 5:03 PM

Just because you “enjoy the benefits” of something doesn’t mean that you have a RIGHT to that thing. Societies make decisions like this on a consensual basis, and you run into a fundamental conflict when you try to elevate something that you consider beneficial to the status of a “right”.

True rights are compossible. The general idea of compossibility is that everyone can simultaneously exercise their actual rights without any of them being in conflict with one another.

But when people start on this nonsensical road of elevating things that are simply desirable or good to the level of a “right”, you start getting into a realm where “rights” are suddenly in conflict with one another.

Let’s try an example. You might assert that everyone has a “right” to medical care, and to be seen by a doctor if they are sick.

But doctors also have freedoms in their person. You can’t force someone to be a doctor against their will, and force them to see patients if they don’t want to do so. They have a right to not be a doctor if they so choose. But your alleged “right” to see a doctor imposes an obligation which fundamentally conflicts with this. What if there is no doctor that is willing to see you? Will you force them, removing their consent from the transaction? What if they choose to quit? What if they ALL choose to quit? Now, to enforce your so-called right, you must force someone to be a doctor against their will.

Your conception of “rights” opens the Pandora’s box of non-compossibility… it opens the door to turning others into unwilling slaves to satisfy a goal you consider good.

It trashes the notion of consensual interaction for mutual benefit, with the inherent implication that consent can be withdrawn. If you are forced to provide something for others against your will, you are no longer free.

Do you have a right to food, shelter and clothing? What if you take no actions on your own part to satisfy those needs… is someone else now FORCED to provide those for you?

Fundamental rights don’t interfere with one another. I have a right to my own life, but that doesn’t impose an obligation on anyone else to provide for me, it simply requires that they do not interfere in such a way as to take my life from me.

If I demand that others feed and shelter me, I might claim that I will die if they fail to meet the obligation I seek to impose upon them, and thus that they are infringing on my “right to life”… but my conception of rights would be flawed in that case.

I’m free to voluntarily and consensually interact with others in society to ensure that I meet that goal, and I benefit every single day from that system… but that doesn’t imply that society has an obligation to do so for me. It doesn’t. I have no right to force anyone else to provide my food, my shelter, my clothing… or my medical care.

Because I’m not a slave, and I’m not going to force anyone else to be a slave to get what I want. I can interact freely with them, provided they consent to the interaction, but no further. They are free to not consent.

Your notion of ‘positive rights’ takes away that ability to withdraw consent, by putting a higher value on someone else’s “right” to receive the benefit of someone’s work over their right to not have to do it.

We are each blessed with different capabilities, different outlooks and a common humanity with equal rights granted to all men.

We apply ourselves as we know how to our part of the problem, ensure those we love know what is going on, and that we spread information as only each of us can do. Friends, neighbors, loved ones… strengthen those bonds, now, and we shall persevere against those who wish to enslave us to our fears, to poverty and by our government. Those ones wish to take us into hell. I will close the gates on them… and they should fear my being on the same side of the gate as they are for then there will truly be hell to pay and then I will march out of hell and leave them behind. If you aren’t prepared for that, then I do suggest you get prepared while there is still time left. To get a good outcome, impress this upon those you know and love. Better to be laughed at in preparing for the worst and working to make sure it never, ever arrives. But do the work FIRST so you can survive no matter WHAT comes.

Hard work before any rewards.

That is life and life is good.
