CNN: Obama looked a little foolish by appearing on The View, huh?

posted at 11:21 am on September 25, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

No kidding.  While Egypt seems as unclear as Barack Obama on the status of our relationship, the President wasn’t in New York working out those issues with Mohamed Morsi or other world leaders.  Instead, he was hashing out his own problems with the hosts of The View on ABC, which CNN found “just a little … weird.”  In fact, the conclusion was that Obama made himself look foolish by abandoning his duties and having Hillary Clinton fill in for him instead:

Dana Milbank agrees, although he couches it in one of his a-pox-on-both-houses columns:

As heads of government arrived in New York on Monday to attend the opening of the United Nations General Assembly, President Obama also made his way to Manhattan but to see a different group of world leaders: Barbara, Elisabeth, Joy, Sherri and Whoopi.

It bordered on scandalous that Obama, joined by the first lady, would make time to sit down with the women of “The View” even as he declined foreign leaders’ requests to meet with him one on one in New York this week. (He left that menial task to his secretary of state.) But Mitt Romney isn’t in an ideal position to press Obama on his priorities.

This is because the Republican presidential nominee and his wife, Ann, just spent some quality time on the set of “Live! With Kelly and Michael,” where they discussed, among other things, Snooki, peanut butter and chocolate milk, their toothpaste-squeezing techniques, Romney’s singing of western tunes while on horseback and what the candidate wears to bed. Then there’s Ann Romney’s scheduled appearance on “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” on Tuesday — the same day Obama’s appearance on “The View” airs.

Well, I won’t argue the silliness of the low-information-voter outreach, but there is one key difference — or actually two.  The first is that Mrs. Romney isn’t running for anything, and the role of the spouses has traditionally been to do these soft-focus appearances.  The other is that Mitt Romney isn’t the President of the United States.  He doesn’t have a responsibility to take his duties seriously except to run for office, which has been his day job for the last several months.  Barack Obama is supposed to be doing the job he got four years ago, which entails meeting with heads of state — especially when they come to the US.

That’s not just his job, either.  It’s also good politics.  Obama at one point wanted to run on his foreign-policy experience (as CNN noted in the clip).  An incumbent President has a huge prestige advantage when conducting global affairs over a challenger, especially one without formal foreign-policy experience.  The fact that Obama ran away from that opportunity isn’t just an abandonment of his post; it’s a concession that he doesn’t look especially good when matched up with other heads of state.

The other is that Mitt Romney isn’t the President of the United States.

That’s right. As far as I can gather, we aren’t paying Mitt Romney to do a damn thing right now, are we? Obama, OTOH, is unfortunately the president and doing his level best to get leg humps and to work on his slice.

Good thing we haven’t had embassies attacked lately. Or had Ambassadors killed. Or have a rogue nation about to launch nukes at Israel under the stated promise to eliminate the Jews. Or have armed forces overseas trying desperately to keep what little control there is in Afghanistan from coming completely undone. Or China and Japan about to go to war over some islands.

Or any of a number of way a real American leader would be trying to make the world safer instead of sucking up to morons like Joy Behar or Whoopie Goldberg!

I’m convinced that Barry Soetero is actually trying to see just how much of this fiddling while the world burns he can get away with. Even he is not so out of touch as to realize how offensive the “optics” of this are.
He just doesn’t care. It’s as if he’s daring the country to reelect him in the face of deliberately doing everything the reverse of the way any incumbent running for reelection would.

Either that, or he knows the fix is in, or that he’s got an Executive Order to declare martial law and keep himself king up his sleeve.

He is a sociopath hellbent on destroying our country, and anybody who votes for him deserves ridicule.

so now the media is saying “what difference does it make?” when he doesn’t talk to foreign leaders?

what happened to his “smart power”? wasn’t he the guy that would sit down with our enemies and try to talk? i guess like everything else, he was wrong in his assumptions on how things would work once he was elected.

a small list of things he realized after taking office:

after campaigning for the job to fix the “worst economy since the great depression”, he realized the economy was worse than he expected.

after promising to spend the stimulus on shovel ready jobs, he realized shovel-ready wasn’t quite so shovel ready.

he promised to close down gitmo, but realized he had no plan to accomplish this.

after promising change, he realized you can’t change washington from the inside.

after promising transparency, he now realizes the need for secrecy in his executive privilege response to FnF.

after saying he would use smart power by talking to our enemies, he now realizes it’s pointless and nothing gets accomplished with a face to face meeting.

after saying his presidency was a one term proposition if he didn’t fix the economy, he now realizes he needs more time.

i would normally say “at least he’s learning on the job”, but i don’t think that’s true…

jazzmo on September 25, 2012 at 12:47 PM

I think he knows the jig is up. He isn’t even pretending like he is trying to make people believe that he is the president.

He is running around doing television shows, being the Preazy of the United Steazy. Congress is still floundering around. The middle east is imploding. Asia is more tense than it has been in a long time and he is farting around, making speeches at the U.N. about how offensive he finds a video some guy did in his back yard. All the while handing over duties to Hillary Clinton. I think the biggest thing he could do to get re-elected would be to suck it up and deal with crisis and say “Look, I don’t have time to run around talking about what ever issues Mitt Romney thinks are important. There is real work to be done and I am busy doing it.” If he would do that, Mitt wouldn’t stand a chance but he isn’t presidential. He just likes the free golf and vacations.

And this is neither joke nor exaggeration.

Gordy on September 25, 2012 at 1:11 PM

Of course, if Romney had actually met with world leaders, he would have been accused of over-stepping his authority. So, for Dana Milbank, Romney cannot win: if he doesn’t met with world leaders, he’s just as bad as Obama; if he does, then he is breaching protocol and acting in bad (faith) form.

I have grown to hate the media. I once thought they were just annoying. But this is ridiculous…

RedSoxNation on September 25, 2012 at 1:12 PM

From the “President’s” speech to the UN (the quotes around his title are intentional – he is a U.S. President by title only – we could re-label him a PINO using the RINO theme if we wouldn’t get in trouble for some insult I haven’t thought of yet):

The future must not belong to those corrupt few who steal a country’s resources – it must be won by the students and entrepreneurs; workers and business owners who seek a broader prosperity for all people. Those are the men and women that America stands with; theirs is the vision we will support.

He stands with ‘entrepreneurs?’ With ‘business owners?’ Since when?

How does this man look himself in the mirror.

Right, when he looks in the mirror, he is blinded by the brightness of his own reflection. It figures.

Look where Obama is going: College campuses and TV, radio rap DJs, H’wood, etc – the entertainment industry. Who watches and listens to the “stars” in this arena? Unfortunately, probably people who are not very well informed. O is trying to reach people who will still vote for him.

Notice where he is NOT going: military bases (Michelle was everywhere in past years), think tanks, cities in general (there might be protesters), anywhere where people might ask questions and stop drinking the kool aid.

He’s in trouble and he and his team know it. Our concern is what will they do to “win” the Nov. 6, 2012 election?

MN J on September 26, 2012 at 12:03 AM

Clearly their internal polling suggests they have this won already. They must have good numbers in OH, FL, and PA, maybe even CO.

Why else waste your time on these silly appearances?

Just a bit more info about you then I care to know.

Riiiight…

You leftist idiot. Your desperation is so telling. Seems you’re not even worthy of Fluke’s limited supply of condoms, communist trash.

rid-ex…you talking to Bmore ?…are you drunk…confused…or is it one of those chemically caused “flashbacks” I hear that can occur, when there has been heavy drug use in the past?

China is sending their “starter” carrier to contested the islands.

But from “the View”, they might talk about women sex drives or something.

Oil Can on September 25, 2012 at 11:26 AM

If the Chinese “starter carrier” works as well as most of my Harbor-Freight Tools Weaken America With Faulty Products purchases of the last few years, there’s nothing to worry about.

The 3-millimeter O-ring holding the carrier bottom on will fail, due to being placed into a 4-millimeter groove by brawling Apple workers.

Harbor Freight Tools has become the number-one way for American craftsmen to hate the Chinese with a passion. I can think of no better way to develop an abiding hatred for China among American workmen than to invent Harbor freight Tools.

I almost totally hate China, and the Chinese, due almost exclusively to the substandard crap that breaks on the first use and usually injures you in the breaking.

Barry shows what’s important to him or better said is what is not important to him. Over a hundred rounds of golf says volumes and chatting with the witches of video is right up his ally. Any one in their right mind realizes the horrible mistake that was made putting him in office, what we didn’t expect was his following.

Bmore must have touched a nerve. I suspect we do now know more than we care to know about Riddick.

Ed-
You should have posted the WHOLE Dana Milibank piece.(of dung) the lede is VERY misleading. While this lefty propagandist lures you into his article with what would appear to be an Oblamer neg- he quickly turns it around and spins negatively on Super Mitt- for most of the article. This gives the dense uninformed reader of WaPo the idea that there is some equivalency between Mitt and the Marxist president with regard to fawning over the pop media.
The take away- Ann Romney did Leno too- so it’s OK that the celeb wannabe-in-chief disses world leaders for a photo op with whoopsie and baba. What a scummy propagandist this WaPo guy is. Making it all better for this pathetic excuse of a President. In search of an honest media…………..

And I’m not short changing PIMP WITH A LIMP in anyway here either.

Right, when he looks in the mirror, he is blinded by the brightness of his own reflection. It figures.

IndieDogg on September 25, 2012 at 1:27 PM

Are you certain that he does have a reflection?

Hiding behind womens pantskirts and talking tough on the issues. Typical of a man brought up by women and no father.

Aren’t Presidents supposed to govern when they’re in office? I keep seeing non-stop campaigning.
