New Obama ad: Still more on Mitt Romney’s supposed tax sketchiness

posted at 12:41 pm on September 24, 2012 by Erika Johnsen

Another week, another round of campaign ads — and in Team Obama’s latest, they tie together Romney’s 47-percent comments and the release of two decades of tax information last week in yet another attempt to make Mitt look altogether sinister.

Okay, let’s just take a moment to trace out the logic here. Last week, the Romney campaign via PriceWaterhouseCoopers released information regarding Romney’s taxes for the past two decades, verifying that Mitt Romney paid an average annual federal tax rate of over 20 percent over that period, gave away more than 13 percent of his income to charity, and that he paid 100 percent of the taxes he owed. So, if Team Obama is impugning that Mitt Romney still needs to “come clean,” I guess that means that Romney, PWC, and the involved notaries and IRS agents are all in on some grand tax-evasion conspiracy of epic proportions.

And as for the oh-so-scandalous assertions that Romney put some of his money in offshore tax shelters that he paid  just 14 percent in taxes last year (still amounting to millions of dollars, by the way) — what exactly is it that Team Obama is accusing him of here? They can’t reasonably be implying that Romney did anything illegal, because he was merely doing what all law-abiding and rationally self-interested individuals do with their money, and clearly, President Obama hasn’t mounted any marvelous offensives to alter what they deem to be the loopholes in our unfair tax code other than merely hiking the income tax on the wealthy. But, until such time as the tax code is changed, that still doesn’t mean that Mitt did anything wrong. Ergo, it stands to reason that Team Obama is attacking Mitt Romney for the audacity of, drumroll please… being rich.

But, this isn’t about class warfare. Or something.

It is interesting that Obama is all worried about tax returns when half the people he put in his administration never paid theirs at all!

Liberals should remember that Romney paid his payroll taxes, too. He also paid sales taxes, property taxes, gas taxes, and probably some other taxes.

I’m sick of this issue. If Obama and Dems are so outrageously outraged in their outragedness, why didn’t they “fix” these tax problems during the first two years of his administration?

Off course stupid Mitt and the Mittbots continue to listen to the republican establishment types like Rove and his cronies on how to run a campaign. Mitt should have left the tax return issue alone, instead he released transcripts kinda like the way Nixon did with the old watergate transcipts. Sure seems that every time Mitt looks like he’s about to pull ahead he does something to kill his own momentum. Maybe Mitt isn’t really stupid, just maybe he is trying to ensure the Marxist wins.

It’s time for Team Romney to … revisit the Rezko Residence Rebate

… since we’re dealing with taxes, just exactly how much imputed income did B.O. report from his Rezko Rebate on his Chicago mansion?
.
And then there are reports of a new mansion in Hawaii … $35million.
.
How does a bureaucrat, and not a wealthy one (he was formerly a college lecturer), afford a $35million mansion in Hawaii? Rent? The fair-market rate is something like $2000.00 per second … and B.O.’s books aren’t selling THAT well … where will he get the money?

I believe there’s a long list of information we’d like to see from Obama and Harry Reid that have been kept under lock and key. How did Harry Reid make his millions on bureaucratic income and how do his taxes look? Being the Senate Majority Leader is a position where the people in this country should have access to that sort of info.

Regardless, I know that if Obamacare spreads like a cancer, I want my medical records kept in the same place Obama keeps his secrets. Apparently, that is the most secure place in the country. Maybe even the world.

AZfederalist on September 24, 2012 at 1:50 PM

“Mitt Romney trashes 47% of the country”? Are you kidding? The left is still pushes that tired argument?

When assessing the electorate and who the potential voters are, Romney’s comment that 47% of the population that’s receiving government entitlements won’t vote for someone who is talking about taking away or reducing those entitlements actually didn’t go far enough. He should have also stated that 92% of the blacks who racially voted for Obama will not be potential Republican voters and 70% of the Hispanics who voted for Obama thinking he’d legalize illegal immigration won’t be Republican voters either. His point, I believe was, why pander to those populations? They’re not going to change their minds.

Based on the statistics given in this ad and other claims, it’s easy to see what the liberal’s agenda is – get the whole litter of pigs sucking at the government teat and you’ll have them eating out of your hand when it comes to election time.

It was a sop to the unions that man the US tire makers. My BF Goodrich tires for a 3/4 ton truck went up $100/tire with that act of fairness.

The theme on the Sunday talk show ( I think it was meet the depressed) was that Romney purposefully overpaid his taxes so that he could bump up his rate to %14. They claimed that if he had done his taxes “properly” by taking all of his deductions, his rate for 2011 would have been %10. And that by his own admission, he is therefore unqualified to be president.
They are actually complaining that he paid too much in taxes.

I hate those people. This is what they spend time talking about. Never mind, how did CNN stroll into a still unguarded consulate and pick a dead ambassador’s diary up off the ground?

Then, they go into a dialog about how Romney doesn’t care about 47% of the country. (Numnuts, he was talking about how it was unfruitful to spend limited resources on changing their votes!)

Are there any shows out there that honestly debate issues on their merit?
