Open thread: Sunday morning talking heads

posted at 8:01 am on September 23, 2012 by Allahpundit

Tough call for the Sunday shows. Do they focus on the week’s true headline story, the White House’s embarrassing reaction to protests in the Middle East and the mounting evidence of U.S. negligence in protecting the consulate in Benghazi? Or do they focus on Romney’s big gaaaaaaaffe? Hint: The panels this week include Peggy Noonan, David Brooks, Joe Scarborough, and Nicolle Wallace, all of them dependable Republican critics of the GOP. Why David Frum and Steve Schmidt weren’t invited too, I have no idea. Maybe the networks are saving the “big guns” for the stretch run before the election.

Bill Clinton, a.k.a. Obama’s other running mate, will be on too to try to convince America that another four years of Obamanomics is just what the doctor ordered for global prosperity and fiscal restraint. The line-up via WaPo:

NBC’s Meet the Press: Gov. Deval Patrick (D-MA); Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH); Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, Bay Buchanan, senior Romney adviser; Joe Scarborough, MSNBC; David Brooks, New York Times; Dee Dee Myers, Democratic strategist

CBS’ Face the Nation: Former President Bill Clinton; David Corn, Mother Jones; Peggy Noonan, Wall Street Journal; Rick Stengel, Time magazine; David Gergen, Harvard; John Dickerson, CBS and Slate

ABC’s This Week: David Axelrod, Obama campaign senior adviser; Reince Priebus, Republican National Committee Chairman; Nicolle Wallace, Republican strategist; Melody Barnes, former Obama policy adviser; Ann Coulter, conservative commentator; Jorge Ramos, Univision anchor; Robert Reich, former Clinton Labor Secretary

Fox News Sunday: Robert Gibbs, Obama campaign adviser; Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker

CNN’s State of the Union with Candy Crowley: Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL); Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC); Rep. Mike Rogers (R-MI); Whit Ayres, pollster; Anna Greenberg, pollster; Susan Page, USA Today; Ron Brownstein, National Journal

We have an incompetent POTUS with an economy on life support and a foreign policy in shambles. Of course they are going to talk about the truly important stuff like the 47% and tax returns.

“While you in the media may be wanting to exploit the 47% comment, the most recent (Rass) poll shows 64% of all Americans agreed with it. We are out to capture the American vote, not yours”.

That would be my response to the talking ‘tards.

Should be the Sunday morning campaign thread. Media has always had liberal bias, lateley it has just dropped all pretenses of objectivity and totally sold out for Obama. It really goes beyond that to the point that the msm has sold out against America. I’ll pass on the shows because it is all too predictable anyway.

Rasmussen on Fox cable this am. said election dead heat/tie. showed 2008 when at about this time this year september McCain and Obama were tied and then the financial meltdown, mccain suspended his campaign and obama surged ahead and never looked back. rasmussen said that at this point in 2012, it’s events tha decide the winner, not the campaign.
I say Benghazi is that event. We know how obama will handle it with his bow to the Muslim, threatening our first amendment rights and condemning the Christian. This is our time. our moment….and Obama will do himself in. Mitt will stand and watch the implosion of the Obama Middle East Doctrine.

Are heavy-hitters like Mark Levin and Rush Limbaugh ever going to point out the bias that is like a punch in the gut this week, or do you think they get offers to appear and say “no”?

I’m going to church and then grocery shopping.

Egypt’s New Leader Spells Out Terms for U.S.-Arab Ties

CAIRO — On the eve of his first trip to the United States as Egypt’s new Islamist president, Mohamed Morsi said the United States needed to fundamentally change its approach to the Arab world, showing greater respect for its values and helping build aPalestinian state, if it hoped to overcome decades of pent-up anger.

A former leader of the Muslim Brotherhood and Egypt’s first democratically elected president, Mr. Morsi sought in a 90-minute interview with The New York Times to introduce himself to the American public and to revise the terms of relations between his country and the United States after the ouster of Hosni Mubarak, an autocratic but reliable ally.

He said it was up to Washington to repair relations with the Arab world and to revitalize the alliance with Egypt, long a cornerstone of regional stability.

This is the most unprecedented MSM bias I’ve ever seen in 40 years. The MSM advantage to Obama is worth hundreds of millions of dollars.

Which brings us to the problem. Romney and the pro-Romney Super Pacs don’t have enough money. A $50 million cash advantage for Romney in the homestretch is not sufficient.

People with real money had better start writing some checks. We need to expand the map and saturate blue states, such as NM, PA-NJ, Michigan, Minnesota. We then move the needle and force Obama to react; because Obama CANNOT keep up.

DRAIN OBAMA DRY NOW.

I have given 11 gifts to Romney and Restore. I encourage everone to make a $10 or $25 or $1 million gift.

Romney will be here in this area on Wednesday…actually, on Wednesday we will have both Romney and Obama in the same county…on opposite ends of the county, mind you. If Ohio would just go Conservative or Libertarian and toss out the tired old union hack Democrats across the state, the Republic would be in far better shape.

Romney and Ryan both need to get out there…set the tone and agenda of this campaign, and be campaigning every single day across the country till their voices turn hoarse and they can barely stand…and make Obama’s every foible, screw-up and utterance fodder, to be exposed to the light of day…and ram it home.

Or, are we all going to let the media once again choose our next President for us?

coldwarrior on September 23, 2012 at 9:39 AM

I don’t think Fox News Sunday needed to rehash this 47% thing again. It was over. They also did not use the whole sentence, just like the MSM they did not say that the 47% that don’t pay taxes won’t be lured to vote for him on his promise to lower taxes.

That is the point you buffoons, the tax rates go down and spur growth. They could at least get the facts correct.

So we’ve got ….Ann Coulter. Who is phenomenal, but she’ll be lucky if she gets to finish any of her sentences. I just heard the intro to Chris Wallace’ show, and bless his heart, he’s going to devote a big chunk of time to Romney’s “disastrous” tape. We have ONE show, how about we discuss all of Obama’s “missteps” for the entire show instead?

BettyRuth on September 23, 2012 at 10:03 AM

Gibbsy is sounding pretty lame though, which is always amusing.

BettyRuth on September 23, 2012 at 10:04 AM

Let’s score it!

NBC D; R; D; R; RINO*; RINO*; D.

CBS: D; D; R; D; D; D (Strong).

ABC: D; R; RINO*; D; R; D; D.

Fox D; R

CNN: D-Dick; RINO; R; R*; R; D.

A fairly typical and ho-hum-beat-the-Dem-drum Sunday. Note the common occurrence of RINOs* — the only Republicans Our Democrat Media can tolerate, since both parties hate conservatives.

Dem – 15
GOP – 9 (including White Ayres here; don’t know her but she’s advertised as a Republican pollster — anyone know better?)
RINO – 4 (Strong week for the faux GOPers; the Dems must have needed reinforcements for the anti-Romney/Ryan propaganda, along with the traditional use for RINOs of claiming objectivity because they are “Republicans”)
Moderators: 5 Democrats (but as we almost always acknowledge, Chris Wallace might be the only Democrat liberal on earth who can perform journalism as a professional with no apparent bias).

Ideology, because that’s the real point here:
Lib – 24
Con – 9

Conclusion: The media is running an unabashed liberal propaganda operation disguised as “news”. And this lineup includes the supposedly conservative Fox, but not the cartoonish MSNBC, which operates 24/7 as the cable outlet for the Obama campaign.

I’ve already worn out two mute buttons. I can’t take it anymore.

winfield on September 23, 2012 at 10:15 AM

Is it possible? Gibbs is a dirtier piece of garbage now than he was as the press secretary? Lordy, but he’s a creep- also he’s downplaying Obama in the debates. Hilarious.

BettyRuth on September 23, 2012 at 10:17 AM

Can someone introduce these people to Mark Steyn. Greg Gutfeld can make a decent argument for the Right also. Liz Cheney would be awesomely awesome.

Cindy Munford on September 23, 2012 at 10:19 AM

Off-Topic, so forgive me, but Fox’s early show had Ainsley Earhardt performing her frequent role as The Impossibly Hot Eye-Candy News Presenter.

I, for one, am better for having turned on the TV at this time. Cialis should sue Fox for running their ads during this show.

Jaibones on September 23, 2012 at 10:20 AM

David Gregory’s theme: Bad week for Romney. Can he recover?

WTF? Obama had a good week? No need to discuss Obama’s week?

I call mine the #BeckelButton. Lettering is worn off, but I know where it is, and it still works.

Cindy Munford on September 23, 2012 at 10:19 AM

Amen.

Steyn – conservative opinion delivered hilariously with nuclear mockery.
Gutfeld – the greatest secret in news media is that Gutfeld is the most conservative voice on Fox’s The Five. Consistently. I thought he was advertised as a mushy, young-person’s, social liberal conservative. He’s got a flame-thrower.
Liz – serious, mostly thoughtful and full-throated conservatism.

Jaibones on September 23, 2012 at 10:26 AM

A poster makes the point that these shows are ignoring the ME stories and the Benghazi story and a liberal poster tells that they are not on the minds of voters.

Well duh. So many stupid people.

Robert Gibbs still thinks he’s Beltway Bob.

Joe Scarborough needs to join the DNC, clearly.

Philly on September 23, 2012 at 10:41 AM

Mitt: Send tougher surrogates to Sunday chat shows. Reince Priebus is the toughest one out there. Scott Walker is OK, Kelly Ayotte is awful. Send John Sununu, Allen West and any other surrogate willing to call Obama a liar and incompetent boob. The Libya attack was an act of war, not a police investigation. Get someone tough enough to attack Barry. How about you do it instead? Even better.

Philly on September 23, 2012 at 9:55 AM

Agree 100%. Newt Gingrich is good too.

Good Lord! Was Clenis always this whiny and nasally? Repetitive talking points, too, in response to the appropriately worshipful Bob ShitFurBrains. Media – given the gift of a free press, they fcuk it up for useless, venal Democrats. Disgusting.
