CS Monitor: Say, this admission on Benghazi terrorist attack might cause Obama a few problems

posted at 10:01 am on September 22, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

Ya think?

After a week of hesitation, the White House now says it is “self-evident” that a “terrorist attack,” and not just a spontaneous reaction from a furious mob, struck the US Consulate in Benghazi,Libya, last week.

Actually, it wasn’t “hesitation.”  The White House insisted that the attack on the consulate in Benghazi was a protest that “spun out of control” — and sent UN Ambassador Susan Rice onto a number of Sunday talk shows last weekend to insist on it.  They rolled out a false story even while the Libyan President said there was “no doubt” that the attack was premeditated and well organized.

Why did the Obama administration stick with the false story until it fell apart?  The Christian Science Monitor answers that question in the following paragraphs:

The characterization is important, because it opens the door to the conclusion that the attack was a preplanned assault, resulting in the deaths of four US diplomats, including the US ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens.

The repercussions of declaring that the Benghazi attack was a planned terrorist assault on the United States would be extensive. For starters, it would raise questions about the Obama administration’s precautions in a volatile region and its preparedness for anti-US strikes in an area known to harbor Al Qaeda and other Islamist extremist elements.

Let’s recall the date of this attack.  It was the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, a date which al-Qaeda has repeatedly attempted to exploit again in order to make itself feared.  Benghazi is in the eastern part of Libya, where AQ has operated for years, recruiting hundreds of low-level jihadis for the war in Iraq, and who have been able to operate even more openly after the fall of Moammar Qaddafi.  That prompts the question of why the Obama administration didn’t take any extra precautions for the Benghazi consulate, especially now that Libya claims to have warned the US a few days before the attack of the deteriorating security environment in Benghazi.

That’s not the only problem that arises with this new admission, either:

More broadly, it could call into question President Obama’s Middle East policy in the wake of the Arab awakening. Some Republican critics are already tarring the policy as too weak and dismissive of the threats that the region’s tumult presents.

Obama pushed Hosni Mubarak out of power in Egypt, and he bombed Qaddafi out of power in Libya.  At the time, Obama hailed the Arab Spring movements as harbingers of democracy and justified his intervention in Libya by claiming that the security of its inhabitants was threatened by Qaddafi (which it certainly was).  Have these interventions improved matters?  More to the point, have they improved US standing and security, and the standing and security of our allies?  Not at all; even Obama suggested that Egypt was no longer an ally of the US under its new leadership, causing NBC’s chief foreign correspondent Richard Engel to openly question why we got involved in the Arab Spring at all.

The cover story offered by the White House shows just how badly they miscalculated on the Arab Spring, and the inevitable seizure of power by the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt and the rise of AQ in eastern Libya, two utterly predictable consequences of Obama’s interventions.  It also shows that the Obama administration, from the top down, understood just how bad this story was — and either lied to themselves, lied to us, or a bit of both in order to avoid the consequences of it.  That might be the most damaging revelation of all.

I hate the fact that I have to use guess work in any of this but its hard to piece it all together. Here is one possible scenario. I have no idea how much is true or not.
If you start from the beginning with Ambassador Stevens just google up “was Chris Stevens gay” and you get two or three pages of links. Stuff which puts it beyond the question of whether he was or not.
Keeping this in mind we already know that zero and rham emanuelle frequented bathhouses in Chicago. Seems the same ones that Stevens did as well. Why is this important, its election time. If ozero gets outed now how the hell does he explain it all, tough to do.Who cares if anyone is gay! That’s not the question. the question is about crediblity, lying, that’s what is at stake here.
Also Stevens had thought for some time he was on a hit list.
Why would an ambassador be on a hit list? Unless he was CIA. Its a stretch, otherwise.
If he was and was involved in getting the original weapons in the “lets take out Quackdaffi days” he has a lot of linkage to the regime. Now he knows all the players. Who order what, when, and perhaps why they did what they did.
Is he a lialibity yet? Perhaps.Perhaps someone who knew the location of the Safe House in dc. Perhaps CIA leaked to the terrorists to do their dirty work for them.
Its a stretch but might make sense.

And haven’t you heard? Mitt finally… Finally… FINALLY… released another year of tax returns. And he only paid like almost nothing in taxes or something.

What they refuse to say is it’s an election year and they’re willing to do or say anything so they don’t ruin their chances at re-election. With the press operating the way it has, they can get away with things for a while, until they start breaking down. I wonder if they would h ave ever changed their mind if it wasn’t for Fox News and talk radio?

bflat879 on September 22, 2012 at 8:41 PM

My big hope is that axelrot does not win this and it goes off the front page to page 42. If we can keep it up front that would be great. Just imagine if a Republican President decided to go campaigning and fund raising when an embassy was on fire in Libya and the fate of those in the embassy was totally unknown! Our side and the DBM would never let it go. If a Repubilcan President did this there would be calls for impeachment for derelection of duty and rightly so. We would hear about it forever.
But obobzo gets a pass. This should be a warning to us. Never trust these clowns in the DBM. I sure hope Rush picks this one back up.

The Democratic Media Apparatchik will do what they do and embargo any mention of this information. The Libya story is over and the story was that Romney is an cad. Nobody will hear anything about this, so it will have absolutely no negative impact on Obama’s reelection chances.

What on earth would make you say that? What makes this lie more noticeable or more reported and likely to lead to more repercussions than the previous 150?

Bingo! There’s incompetence and then there’s the Chicago politician calculation. Everyone below you is expendable if it gets you reelected. Ms. Rice, you out there? All loyal toads should take heed. 45 days!

well, ‘cept that today CNN is reporting that they found our dead Ambassador’s diary–one where he cited concerns for his own safety there in Libya. I thought that it was interesting that it was found amongst the trash and ash of the burned out building where Mr. Stevens was dragged from and killed. Unguarded of course. One would think that the US Embassy should’ve/could’ve done an intel sweep to scrape up any sensitive items—a US Ambassador’s diary perhaps–that happened to get left behind.

Obama must apologize some more, apparently we haven’t bowed to Morsi enough yet!! They want to be able to move their troops out across the desert closer to Israel! We must BEG Egypt to GIVE THEM our MONEY, and force Israel to break the treaty.

This is not going to play well out there in America: I hope Romney and Ryan capitalize on it. Because Morsi basically HUMILIATES OBAMA here:

Egypt’s New Leader Spells Out Terms for U.S.-Arab Ties

CAIRO — On the eve of his first trip to the United States as Egypt’s new Islamist president, Mohamed Morsi said the United States needed to fundamentally change its approach to the Arab world, showing greater respect for its values and helping build aPalestinian state, if it hoped to overcome decades of pent-up anger.

A former leader of the Muslim Brotherhood and Egypt’s first democratically elected president, Mr. Morsi sought in a 90-minute interview with The New York Times to introduce himself to the American public and to revise the terms of relations between his country and the United States after the ouster of Hosni Mubarak, an autocratic but reliable ally.

He said it was up to Washington to repair relations with the Arab world and to revitalize the alliance with Egypt, long a cornerstone of regional stability.

From the CNN.com report today about Ambassador Stevens’ journal:

Stevens died on September 11, along with three other Americans, when the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi came under attack amid a large protest about a U.S.-made film that mocked the Muslim Prophet Mohammed.

Maybe the Egyptian would be appeased if we’d put the black flag of AlQueda or some Islamic flag up over the Capitol or the White House?

Are Obama and Hillary actually Pro-American?

It’s almost like they are closet Muslim sympathizers or something. What kind of influence does Huma Abedin at the State Department have over these people?

Do they represent AMERICA of Huma and her Muslim Brotherhood family and supporters?

The Christian Science Monitor’s motto is something like, ‘to injure no man and to bless all mankind’ and I used to subscribe for exactly the non-partisan information they provided. The articles were rich with information in which to form a reader’s opinion and/or to make universally aware the issues that needed prayerful thought or action.
Of late, CSM is not often sourced material so I hope they take note of this rare Hot Air link and move back to reporting instead of lecturing.

Paul Ryan needs to bring this stuff up at the VP debate because heaven knows Pravda isn’t going to.

This administration has been caught lying to the American public. And I have no doubt its because this will hurt the President. And that is all that Obama and his flunkies care about. What are a couple of dead Americans compared to the messiah getting an unfettered and “flexible” second term?

The thing that bothers me the most about all of this is the fear and apprehension I hold for my own gov’t. What if this grand apology, the apology PSA, the non-stop vilification of the movie/producer, the whole “it was a video” is a message to the rest of us, not the militants. That if we ever think of doing such a thing, they can charge us with inciting violence, and ergo are a danger to the security of the country? This is how free speech dies–by smothering it with threats and fear. Thinking through this makes this admin absolutely despicable and treasonous.

I’m sure plans for the next anniversary of 9/11 are already going on. This murder of our Ambassador was a convenient event for them and the copy cat mobs think the same way in this tribal culture. We better do something different than what we are doing or this will continue for decades. They’ll blame their acts of terror on anything handy to use, it makes no difference to them.
