I “get a mite testy” over too many of the fore-mentioned seniors being the ones who predominantly voted for the same politicians who RAIDED Social Security and Medicare, leaving the program flat-ass broke.

I “get a mite testy” because too many of the fore-mentioned seniors didn’t hold their politicians accountable.

I “get a mite testy” over the post-WWII LAZINESS that the country slipped into, allowing the above to continue un-checked.
With exceptions, today’s seniors, and the ones on the brink of turning “senior” bear the burden of responsibility for allowing all of this to happen on their watch (or lack thereof).

Been getting AARP junk mail since the week I turned 50.

Okay …

Medicare is a promise, and we will honor it. A Romney-Ryan administration will protect and strengthen Medicare, for my Mom’s generation, for my generation, and for my kids and yours.

Strengthen it? We NEED people to assume some of the responsibility of care for themselves in order to reduce the amount of money we spend on it.

Paul Ryan and Willard don’t have the balls to do that.

That’s the WHOLE LIE in this.

I read somewhere that Medicare pays for about 60% of the costs…beneficiaries pay a great deal of the rest themselves…

The problem being that the first 60% is taken from someone else who is not eligible for the benefit.

They passed social security such that at the time the age of eligibility most people had died by that age. Of course, it was not locked in that the age should increase as the average lifespan increased. So every generation gets a worse deal than the last.

It gets even worse when you look what those generations do… Since they will not have to rely on their own children to help them in their old age, they stopped getting married and having children. Relying on other people’s children to pay the bills they create which are their own responsibility.

But they were not and are not satisfied with that… No no no, they need to spend more money than they are willing to tax, thereby increasing on those few children the added burden of paying the interest of the debt they did not create or benefit from.

But hey, that is OK, because Romney and Ryan are going to arrange it so that future generations can keep on getting screwed by the policies the past generations put up to enrich themselves with.

Explain to my why I should feel sorry for an older person who refused to fix the system with their votes and continue to do so now? Obviously MOST people did not want it changed, or the politicians would have cashed in on those votes…

If their income is only $700 a month, most likely they could qualify for medicaid and not have to pay their medicare fee for part B. I know a few people in this exact situation.

Yep. They sold their souls(and credibility) for billions.

It can be as much as 80% but there is a cap after that too. And there are lots of things it doesn’t cover at all. A lengthy hospital stay and after care can bankrupt a person on Medicare. I know of people getting $700 a month on SSA and still paying the $110 for Medicare. Doesn’t leave them much to live on.

I think some people who post here think Medicare is free to the recipient. It’s not. They may be confusing it with Medicaid.

Medicare is a bad deal but it isn’t going away any time soon, too many people, including insurance companies, have too much invested in it. Now Medicaid and SSI are the real culprits int this mess. Don’t forget those seniors who are very low income get Medicaid instead of Medicare.

Too may old people would sell out their kids and grand kids for a government hand out. Maybe they used to be the “greatest generation”. Now, they’re a bunch of weak minded fools who only care about themselves and go to the doctor for recreation. If we want to fix Medicare, put a $50 co-pay in place. I’m in my sixties btw.

You do know there is a co-pay already, right?

And many people on Medicare pay up to $110 a month for it and then more for their drug coverage. And since Medicare only pays some of the expenses, most people have to buy a Medigap policy from a private insurance company to cover the difference, so there’s another monthly payment.

The seniors I know aren’t going to the doctor for recreation, but then you probably know many of these seniors and their finances personally.
