Your tax dollars at work: State Department now running TV ads in Pakistan denouncing Mohammed movie

posted at 5:21 pm on September 20, 2012 by Allahpundit

Let me recycle a few lines from the post on Martin Dempsey phoning Terry Jones because this is where I think we’re headed, at least as long as American troops are stationed in large numbers in the Middle East:

Loyola’s right that military leaders phoning citizens to ask them to pipe down for the sake of the troops sets a bad precedent. If more copycats do emerge, will Dempsey phone all of them? Will the Pentagon set up a special phone bank for officers to phone critics of Islam and let them know that they’re hurting national security by giving fundie nuts a pretext to make trouble? If we’re going down this road, let’s just establish a PR bureau inside the Defense Department to issue official statements of patriotic disapproval anytime a U.S. citizen says something that’s unhelpful to the wider strategy in the Middle East.

What you’re about to see is, essentially, an official statement of patriotic disapproval, not from the Defense Department but from State. They’re spending $70,000 to air this on Pakistani television in the naive hope that the lunatics who were throwing rocks at the embassy in Islamabad this morning and who are planning massive — and state-sanctioned — “protests” tomorrow might be placated. It’s a hostage video, with American diplomats in Pakistan and American soldiers in Afghanistan as the hostages. And, as always when the government strains to show respect for Islam, there’s nothing genuinely respectful about it. The thought of Hillary cutting a video like this for the Israeli market in response to some U.S. citizen’s anti-semitic propaganda because she “respects” Judaism is unimaginable. The motive here is fear, not respect. And bizarrely, the embassy seems proud enough of it that it’s willing to advertise this clip on its own Facebook page.

Note to Team Romney: If you’re serious about pushing the “apology tour” narrative vis-a-vis Obama’s foreign policy, here’s exhibit A. And if you do pursue it, don’t forget to remind voters that the target audience for this is the same country that’s driven us to grief in Afghanistan and the same country that’s almost certainly going to end up starting the world’s first nuclear war. That’s where the Foreign Policy President is at these days.

Dang, Hillary, that hairstyle is rather … uhm … severe, isn’t it? Where’s your leather teddy, thigh high boots, and riding crop?

crosspatch on September 20, 2012 at 10:48 PM

So,are the President and Secretary of State providing lip service to the ideal of Freedom of Speech, or respect for Islam?

It can only be one or the other.

Oh my, Newt’s back and he’s on Greta, serving up some BHO truth.

And, he’s doing a might fine job of it.

Must have had a nice long vacay with the Mrs…

Of course Greta will discuss this with the next Pulitzer winner, Joe Klein, so we will all will know the truth at that point.

Just because you get up and answer the phone at 3am doesn’t mean you have to always look like it.

When Obama took the oath of office, he swore to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America.

Today he is spending our taxpayer dollars to apologize to Pakistan for our Constitution and the First Amendment and freedom of speech.

He is clearly a despicable, treasonous, cowardly excuse for an American, let alone the most horrid “American” President in history.

I don’t understand how any decent American could let this stand.

I don’t even recognize my own country anymore.

Hoof Hearted on September 20, 2012 at 11:42 PM

This government needs to resign. NOW!!

This is not upholding the constitution, this is not defending American citizens and their natural rights, this is out and out kowtowing and selling us out.

And what shocks me even more isn’t this… it’s the self-proclaimed intellectuals, the militant atheists… the ones who couldn’t wait to stand up to their chic-fil-a oppressors who are sitting on their hands quietly and tacitly accepting this.

Good Lord, I just watched a commercial to the “Arab World” from Hillary and barakhusseinobama admonishing the “video” that started all this unrest.

Hillary should be brought up on charges for dereliction of duty for Amabassador’s Stephens death, and every other patriot there. The state department was notified of unrest in the area, and warned ahead of time.

I hope she has trouble sleeping at nigth, but somehow I don’t think that is possible.

Hey, Hillary, what kind of shake is bad for your eyes?

Hey gang, if you want a taste of how badly this newest apology is playing out, click on the FaceBook link and read the thousands of hate-filled, threatening comments it’s drawing from its putative audience. What tools our leaders are.

datripp on September 21, 2012 at 5:22 AM

This action is just plain stupid. And counter productive.
This is exactly what the Embassy in Cairo did last week and look at how well that worked. And it drew a rebuke from the adminisrtation. So they did it again.
Incredibly, the base message is that while we do not like what this movie says, we absolutely believe in the right to say it. SO GO SUCK AN EGG. This message will only p!ss ’em off more than they already are.
They simple DO NOT understand free speech as we do.

Jabberwock on September 21, 2012 at 6:34 AM

Not only is this apology cowardly and unAmerican, it is counter productive. These animals take an apology as validation of their grievances and thus an excuse to increase the rioting and murder. But, they know that so I wonder what their real objective is?

Vital Interest

Since I suggested nuking Pakistan for hiding OBL, I hope that I demonstrated as much of a belligerent attitude as most people.

The difference is that with OBL, an active enemy of the American government, no, people was being helped.

This case is completely different. How can we understand their anger?

Trying to imagine their doing this to one of our religions does not work since we are not as sensitive on the issue.

For things they might do to incur our intense wraith, suppose first that they are much stronger than we. Second, in this alternate world, suppose they had a legal system which allowed Joe Paterno and his gang to roam free. And suppose that they were actively snatching kids as they keep him.

And then making a horrible public exposition of the thing!

We consider the special feelings of people all the time. I don’t hear the racial and religious remarks that used to be common. More broadly, if I hear that I upset people with unimportant things, I stop.

There are also complaints about our having bases in the wrong area and other “outrages” but that is a different matter. A guy named Akbar or something similar has probably made it clear to our government that this distancing from the film and simple statement is a good idea. I used to have a friend named Akbar and it was usually smart to agree with him.

IlikedAUH2O on September 21, 2012 at 6:57 AM

More groveling and apologizing. Great.

Yes, we should appease violent barbarians at all costs. Perhaps we should institute sharia in the US and forceably convert everyone to Islam. That should do the trick. They they won’t be outraged.

Hmmmm, I’d say this just about blows up Shrillary’s Presidential aspirations, eh?

Well, that and the new Bard, Lewinsky, and her book deal.

That’s OK though ’cause the Libs have such a “deep bench” – like, um, Fauxcahontas, Cuomo (**cough Community Reinvestment Act cough***), oh and their San Antonio answer to Marco Rubio who can’t even speak Spanish.

Without the lapdog media “filter”, who in their right mind would ever vote for this party?

ICanSeeNovFromMyHouse on September 21, 2012 at 9:05 AM

What I don’t get why does the President always says “The Prophet Mohammed” during his responses. That’s like referring to Jesus as “Christ the Savior” during a Presidential response regarding religion.

It sounds like an extraordinary amount of deference when it doesn’t need to be coming from the head of our government.

Is it just me or does Hillary get uglier and uglier with each passing day?

Nah, not just you….and having to settle for SoS, constantly being sent all over the world while taking orders form the punk who stepped on her run for the Oval Office probably has some effect as well.

Hillary: “Why yes, I can see advantages to putting on a full burqa every morning.”

Bill: “Everyone else can see that too.”

Does anyone here think our “leaders” are intelligent?

Or is it just me that see a herd of morons in charge?

dirtengineer on September 21, 2012 at 11:51 AM

“America’s commitment to religious tolerance?” Really? I think that only applies to Islam.

BrunoMitchell on September 21, 2012 at 12:15 PM

Let’s see if I have this right. Some cartoons published in France stoked anger over the video made in California and we’re apologizing for it?

Have any of you actually listened to those statements, or read a full transcript? There’s not a trace of an apology there.

Is anyone else now convinced that Hillary has a picture of Helen Thomas on her wall, and the picture is mysteriously looking better and better over time?

Pure Dhimmitude. They get our tax dollars and our apologies.

infidel4life on September 22, 2012 at 12:32 AM

I used to believe the people in this administration were just stupid.

Now, they’re showing themselves to be cowards as well.

This comment says it best:

“Get over it, you ignorant savages. Yes, someone made fun of your religion. So what? If there’s a grain of truth in what you believe, it will stand up to ridicule — it will come out purer, stronger truth for having been ridiculed. If your pathetic little wuss of a ‘prophet’ can’t tolerate a bit of mocking, then there’s no truth in what he told you.”
–Rob Crawford

Someone in this administration needs to grow a pair.
