Obama: “You can’t change Washington from the inside”

posted at 4:41 pm on September 20, 2012 by Erika Johnsen

Well. This is… embarrassing. During an interview with Univision and speaking to his failure to pass comprehensive immigration reform, President Obama lamented the degree to which his capability to lead and to get things accomplished in Washington has been so steadily and unfortunately put-upon, and made a rather awkward apology for his policy deficiencies.

“The most important lesson I’ve learned is you can’t change Washington from the inside.”

Hem, hem. And I quote:

Photobucket

Okay, hold the phone — the President of the United States is powerless to influence Washington’s inner workings? I thought that was supposed to be the entire point of America electing him? You don’t think that maybe the real reason President Obama has failed to deliver on his many ambitious campaign promises — increasing transparency and bipartisanship, ending business as usual, creating jobs, and everything else that can be summed up by his erstwhile campaign slogan — could be because he finally got to Washington and figured out that, hey, actually… I’m fine with it just the way it is. Maybe?

The Twitterverse is having a grand ol’ time with this one:

What a great smile. He is soooooooo likeable. He’s so comfortable and at ease yucking it up.

……and have you seen Michelle’s toned arms? My gosh does she work out or something? Must be that garden they have at the White House. They have such a great family. Did you see they were partying with Beyonce and Jay-Z? I saw that on ET and TMZ last night.

What? He said you can’t lead what? from the inside?……silence…..I wonder if Beyonce sang to them? She looks great in that outfit, hey pass me the fries, Brit, leave your sister alone and pass me the napkins too…..

I guess he thought he was emperor, he sends down decrees and everyone would follow. You earned the money and now he will decide how you spend it. This is a big unforced error, but the press will try to provide cover.

By the way people, even if he is defeated, the fight isn’t over. There are plenty of his type still squirming around in pit we call the United States Government.

Where HOPE & CHANGE went to die.

A long, long time ago
I can still remember how ObamaGod used to make ‘em smile
And we knew even if he had a chance
That he couldn’t make those people dance
And, maybe, Hopenchange has been gone for a while

But, Matthews’ leg lost its quiver
Even the New York Times couldn’t deliver
Bad news on the doorstep
Tears of Obamaboys had already been wept

OWS’s death was salty when 99%ers cried
Much more than when ObamaGod lied
And, Americans felt his rancidness deep inside
The day the music died

So, bye-bye, “Yes, We Lie!”

Resist We Much on September 20, 2012 at 6:34 PM

I absolutely love it because you just know that preezy went there with his paternalistic, elitist attitude, thinking to himself “These are a bunch of dumb Mexicans who will vote for me no matter what. This is gonna be a lovefest between daddy and his children,” and BAM! They called him a failure. They called him a liar. They called him out. Right. To. His. Face.

Someone in his Hispandering outreach will be getting a very angry phone call today: “What the hell? You people aren’t supposed to…ask me questions…and stuff. You’re supposed to shut up…and vote for me. Now get out there and weed Michelle’s garden!”

AZgranny on September 20, 2012 at 6:42 PM

I saw that on TV this morning — it is TOUGH! The preezy’s campaign is going to be pissing all over itself over this ad. And while the article you linked to says it’s running in WI, VA, and PA, I saw it in another state. They must have done a huge ad buy after the Libya terrorist attack and torture and murder of our ambassador there that the obama administration and sharia media are trying — and failing — to cover up.

Rational Thought on September 20, 2012 at 6:47 PM

Great news, Romney on the attack.

Mitt Romney has seized on President Barack Obama’s statement that he ‘can’t change Washington from the inside by telling him: ‘He can only change it from outside? Well, we’re going to give him a chance in November. He’s going outside!’

Speaking at a rally in Sarasota, Florida, Romney reacted swiftly to Obama’s comment in a Univision television forum: ‘The most important lesson I’ve learned is that you can’t change Washington from the inside. You can only change it from the outside.’

Romney said this amounted to Obama throwing in ‘the white flag of surrender’.

The Republican nominee said this meant that Obama’s 2008 slogan had been altered: ‘His slogan was “Yes we can”. His slogan now is “No I can’t”. It’s time for a new president.’

Uh, how do you know Romney won’t fire everyone he can? This is a man who has made it his living to rid companies of excessive and/or ineffective people, and hire the best ones for the job. We see his skill at this with the selection of Paul Ryan.

George W. left waaaay too many Clinton people around when he took office, and they tried to sabotage him at every turn. But George was thinking Washington would be as polite as Austin. Having been governor in deep blue MA, I don’t see Romney operating under the same assumption and making the same mistake. Just my two cents.

He tells me, “I voted for Obama of course because I believed in his gay rights and abortion, but this year I’m not going to vote for him. I don’t know anyone who is. I look at everything and I just don’t see where we are any better off four years ago.” And when I mentioned Romney, he basically reiterated the same thing: “I don’t agree with him, obviously, on the gay marriage or abortion thing . . . but he seems to know how to make jobs.”

Remember when I predicted that the DADT bounce wouldn’t carry him through the election? Obama is running against his own results, but people aren’t just wary – they are scared.

JoseQuinones on September 20, 2012 at 8:19 PM

Barry quit being a “community organizer” after a few years (of failing to accomplish anything worthwhile). He told the people he worked with that he was going to law school, because he realized that to accomplish the kind of big changes he wanted, he needed political power (i.e., he needed to be on the inside of the system). He’d seen that he could not effect real change from the outside (as a community organizer).

So Barry failed to accomplish anything working on the outside as a community organizer, and now he tells us he can’t accomplish anything working on the inside (and as president, he’s the ultimate insider now).

So why should anyone ever again vote for this incompetent and self-admitted failure at everything?

AZCoyote on September 20, 2012 at 8:22 PM

How many Presidents does it take to change a lightbulb?

Only one, but the lightbulb has to want to change.

Far too few Washington “insiders” actually want anything to change about the way they do business; the best presidents know this, and work with the Congress they have, not the one they wish they had.

Obama never learned to work with anyone.

From what I saw of that video, it looked like a cam was placed on the top of a table (or a bar?). It was obviously not filmed by any of the guests.

From your link

In Florida, it is against the law to record private conversations without obtaining permission from the person.

In fact, it is a Felony Crime.

I know that many dozens of his supporters love to say how smart he is, but all the evidence i’ve seen suggets the man has a very low IQ.

Don’t know what his IQ is, because no one knows anything about his background.

But he did win an alltime 70% of the High School Dropout Vote in 2008. The previous record was Algore in 2000 with 61%.

Gee, I guess that means the AGW people are just as stupid as the O’bamna Voters. I’ll have to check with the ghost of Claude Rains to sort that one out.

At a town hall hosted by Univision this afternoon in Florida, a college student asked President Obama for advice on how to get a job. Obama first lavished praise on the journalists hosting the forum and then admitted that the economy has not been doing well for the last four years:

“The economy has been very tough for the last four years,” Obama said. “And so there are a lot of young people out there who graduated, who have a great education, but have still had trouble getting work.”

The president then said the best thing the college student could do to get a job is to get an education.

Translation:

College Student: I have a great education but I can’t find a job.

Obama: Sucks to be you.

In case you’ve ever wondered, hanging a chair from a tree in your own yard is now racist!

Austin Man Hangs Empty Chair From Tree Symbolizing President Obama

A Northwest Austin homeowner, who hung a chair from a tree meant to symbolize President Obama, has taken it down.

The political blog burntorangereport.com first talked about the display in the Spicewood Estates area Wednesday night.

The fold-up chair, with an American flag attached to it, was hung from a tree in front of Bud Johnson’s home and some neighbors complained that it was racist.

KEYE TV News wanted to find out from Johnson about the chair and why he put it up. KEYE TV reporter Lydia Pantazes and photojournalist Mario Pena went to his house Thursday morning. As they arrived, Johnson was taking down the chair and he advised Pantazes and Pena “to get the hell away.”

When Pantazes asked him why he hung the chair from the tree, he responded “Haven’t you heard of the Clint Eastwood thing with the empty chair?”

Johnson also said he’s not a racist and that he doesn’t dislike any race. In addition, he said the chair was not being “lynched”, and when Pantazes asked why he had it hanging from the tree, he said the tree was “the only place I had to put the damn thing.” Johnson then placed the chair on his lawn a few feet away from the tree.

Pantazes talked to a neighbor who told her that Johnson is an overall “good neighbor and a nice guy. He’s just a really conservative Republican.” The neighbor, who did not want to be identified, thought the issue was taken out of context.

Robert Stephenson, who also lives in the area, said there’s “no way you can take that the wrong way.” He called the display was “pretty racist.”

“I’m glad he took it down. I just hope he don’t put it back up,” Stephenson said.
