Hey, something new and different: CBO raises another estimate of ObamaCare costs

posted at 6:51 pm on September 19, 2012 by Erika Johnsen

Ah yes, yet another confutation of an original government estimate, and not in a direction that sounds favorable for our economic outlook — will all of these earth-shattering wonders about the hidden costs of ObamaCare never cease? (Hint: Don’t hold your breath.) The Washington Times reports:

Six million Americans will pay the health care tax rather than obtain coverage under President Obama’s health care law, according to a new Congressional Budget Office estimate Wednesday — a 50 percent increase over CBO’s estimate of just two years ago.

CBO also said there will be 30 million people without insurance, though all but the 6 million will be exempt from the tax. The exempt Americans are a combination of illegal immigrants and those with incomes too low to pay income taxes.

The agency said the government will collect about $7 billion from the tax in 2016, and $8 billion a year thereafter.

One of the reasons the CBO cited for upping their estimate on the number of people who will pay the penalty is the enduring overall crumminess of our economy, meaning that they now expect that more people than originally anticipated will be unemployed, which in turn will make it harder to for people to buy insurance coverage. Man, all of the Obama administration’s many and various attempts at social engineering just don’t seem to be working out for them, do they?

And hey, hold on a second — what is it that President Obama’s always saying about not raising taxes a single penny on the middle class? ‘Cause, via the AP, emphasis mine…

Nearly 6 million Americans – most of them in the middle class – will face a tax penalty for not carrying medical coverage once President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul law is fully in place, congressional budget analysts said Wednesday. …

Nonetheless, in his first campaign for the White House, Obama pledged not to raise taxes on individuals making less than $200,000 a year and couples making less than $250,000.

Can somebody please explain to me again how coercing people into buying a product/service or paying a penalty is somehow not a tax that also violates individual freedom? Because I’m still not getting it.

You need to read the small print on page 1,749: “Special camps will be established to reeducate those who are unable or unwilling to accept nationalized health care, these camps will be administered by the DHS.”

Heh. Man if the situation were reversed, the MSM would be calling the election for Obama as of today. Wait, they’ve already done that for him a few times this cycle already haven’t they?

Figures lie and liars figure, but numbers stay true to themselves always. I wonder how the press will spin this as hurting Romney? You know they’ll try :)

Really? Is there not a TV show this bastard hasn’t or won’t go on to continue his prevarications? It remains to be seen how useful such appearances will be this time around. In 2008, he was a relatively unknown so it had to have helped big time.

But now, even the low info voters know who he is and they also know of their families’ and neighbors’ and their own sorry economic circumstances. They also know, thanks to the tabloids and popular culture media, about all the expensive and lavish vacations the Obamas have enjoyed and fundraisers like last night with $800 bottles of wine stacked to the ceiling.

There is also the very real risk of over-exposure that can tank you with the public. We’ll see.

Of course the true context is: “Do I have to pay it?” and the answer is always: “Yes!”

Can somebody please explain to me again how coercing people into buying a product/service or paying a penalty is somehow not a tax that also violates individual freedom? Because I’m still not getting it.

Romney can.
The way it will work is that pay the fine when healthy and buy the insurance when sick, then when done, the fine again… yeah.

Now then, because people will do this, they will have to raise the fine higher, or the insurance companies go broke. Of course, this is Romney’s plan just as much as Obama’s.

Romney likes mandates. Romney likes regulations. Romney likes the safety net. Romney’s views are progressive. In fact, if you listen to his “conservative” talk, you get that government can create jobs as long as it is well managed, only when it is mismanaged do we lose jobs. Here is the thing, the government should not be MANAGING the economy under conservative thought. only when you get to severe conservatism does that work… So, go back and look through all the arguments Romney made to pass his Romneycare, they match Obama’s, and the results are about the same. It came complete with a raiding of Medicare/Medicaid to fund it for a few years. Then they went begging for more money from the feds when it ran out. It also had provisions for providing abortions and other family planning services, even for the Catholics. It also increased the ranks of the uninsured. When looked at for full years coverage, the numbers dropped, for part year coverage the number went up. Demonstrating what I said above… It also increased, not decreased emergency room usage above the trend.

But hey, Romney will pass a better bill… He would never WORK with the democrats to make his replacement, right? Right? Then strong arm a few smattering of Republicans into voting for it like the maine sisters, McCain and Graham? Never happen, not in a million years!

You missed more on that same page:

“Special camps (see Addendum 34729-3641-A) will be established…”

Addendum 34729-3641-A (page 2306)

All “re-education” treatments will only use GREEN power to be generated by either a) wind or b) solar power farms, which will necessitate such treatments to only commence on windy/sunny days and, thus, will result in longer treatment periods. Once treatments are admitted and deemed successful, treated subjects will move on to the next step in the “re-education” process, learning Quran (see Addendum 87556-1984-C).

Illegal immigrants are Americans?

rhit87 on September 19, 2012 at 7:33 PM

As of 2 months ago? Hundreds of thousands have already applied and received their papers just in GULAG (aka Kalifornian Khaliphate) and more are just waiting to get their paperwork processed. LA area school districts are behind in getting requests replied to. 400K by last count. Just LA alone, now multiply that by Bay Area, Sacramento, Central Valley, etc. Then multiply by other states facing same BS.

Hussein Admin estimated roughly 12 Million, I am sure their estimates are way off, as usual.

riddick on September 19, 2012 at 8:08 PM

Six million Americans will pay the health care tax rather than obtain coverage under President Obama’s health care law, according to a new Congressional Budget Office estimate Wednesday — a 50 percent increase over CBO’s estimate of just two years ago.

CBO also said there will be 30 million people without insurance, though all but the 6 million will be exempt from the tax. The exempt Americans are a combination of illegal immigrants and those with incomes too low to pay income taxes.

The not-so-few, the proud, the insureless.

Wasn’t the whole original reason to shove this crap sandwich down the throat of America to make sure that the “30-45 million uninsured Americans” received health insurance? So, for all these hundreds of billions (trillions?) of dollars, all this regulation, all these mandates and controls, reduced health care, we end up with ….. 30 million uninsured. Great.

William Teach on September 19, 2012 at 9:48 PM

DevilsPrinciple on September 19, 2012 at 10:08 PM

I keep asking this: How will I know if I am one of the middle class people who has health insurance and has to pay the tax anyway?

If your plan is too nice, there is a big tax, “if I want to keep the plan I have.”

So, do I have to pay? And why won’t the CBO, Madame Secretary Shall, or even the republicans tell us how much the bill is? There is an election coming, maybe someone would like to know.

Fleuries on September 20, 2012 at 9:28 AM
