Pelosi: “Oh, Mitt Romney is not going to be president”

posted at 2:01 pm on September 17, 2012 by Erika Johnsen

By all means, keep yucking it up, Democrats. I’m sure the American people are almost convinced you’re not the least bit scared. On CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday, a little before the five-minute mark:

“Oh, Mitt Romney is not going to be president of the United States. I think everybody knows that.”

Does everybody know that? Because by most accounts, this election has been running on a too-close-to-call basis, and while the differing arguments from pollsters and pundits abound, very few people are calling this thing as definitively locked up for President Obama. The House Minority Leader went on to preemptively apologize for the Republicans’ ‘philosophy of obstruction’ that will no doubt dominate an Obama second term (since Republicans just loathe ‘clean air’ and ‘clean water’ and ‘public safety’ and whatnot), i.e., President Obama will continue to demonstrate an abysmal sense of leadership and nothing major will change — man oh man, that’s some really excellent reasoning to vote for the president if ever I’ve heard it.

Pelosi also reiterated her confidence in the Democrats’ chances for taking back the House (again, er… the Democrats are going to easily net 25 seats? Really?) and the Senate’s chances for keeping their Democratic majority. Maybe she’s just playing up the blitheness, but it’s kind of an interesting strategy — isn’t conventional wisdom that you usually try to appear less than confident in order to motivate the base to get out to the voting booths?

wildcat72 on September 17, 2012 at 2:07 PM

In all fairness to Nancy, what else is she supposed to say, particularly if she wants to continue to have any relevance in her own party?

Hopefully she’s as right about Romney as she was about Democrats holding on to the House in 2010. On the very morning of Election Day, she told the press that based on record turnout in Democratic areas, the Democrats were on pace to hold the House.

The more she talks about how she thinks Romney is toast, the more I like his chances.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said late this afternoon that she is confident the House Democrats’ message to preserve Social Security and fight for the middle class will resonate with voters. “We’re on pace to maintain the majority in the House of Representatives,” Ms. Pelosi told reporters gathered in a second-floor conference room at the Democrats’ headquarters in Washington.

Poor thing. Let’s not be so harsh. No one Pelosi knows is voting for Romney.

They really are terrified.

Hint to the Dems: it’s too early for an incumbent to play this ultra-confidence meme. It makes you look weak.

He’s already been a transformative president! You don’t have to have two terms to be a successful president, guys.

It’s OK if Obama loses. There, there. I know. Just let it out…. Shhhh…..

Don’t believe it. Over the next 30 or so days, you’re going to see the polls change dramatically, because no polling agency wants to be seen as being THAT inaccurate. They’re going to have to start doing polls based on reality so they can hang on to what little remains of their credibility.
