Open thread: Sunday morning talking heads

posted at 8:01 am on September 16, 2012 by Allahpundit

Obama tried to influence Israeli voters by snubbing Netanyahu’s request for a meeting later this month, so here comes Bibi to return the favor. He’ll make his case on Iran directly to an American audience this morning on “Meet the Press.” I wonder if that’s been planned for weeks or if it was something hastily arranged, partly in frustration at O’s refusal to set any “red lines” for Iran’s nuke program and partly to capitalize on American anger over the embassy attacks this week. The idea that Islamic fundamentalists maybe shouldn’t be allowed to have nuclear weapons will have new resonance today for any American who’s been in a news coma since, oh, say, late September 2001. And believe me, they’re out there.

Here’s the line-up via the LA Times. Not sure why there’s no listing for “This Week,” but according to ABC’s website, they’ll have Susan Rice on as the main guest and Liz Cheney and Wes Clark, among others, on the panel to debate the Foreign-Policy President’s record.

State of the Union With Candy Crowley The Democratic agenda; 2012 Campaigns: Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco)…

Face the Nation Embassy attack in Libya and 2012 election: Sen. John Mccain (R-Ariz.). Events in Middle East: Richard Haass, Council on Foreign Relations; Martin Indyk, former U.S. Ambassador to Israel. Panel: Bobby Ghosh, Time; David Sanger, New York Times; John Dickerson; Margaret Brennan.

Meet the Press Israel and Iran; U.S.-Israeli relationship: Benjamin Netanyahu Prime Minister of Israel. Libya; anti-American protests overseas: Susan Rice, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations. Foreign policy and the 2012 campaign: Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.); Rep. Peter King (R-NY); Bob Woodward; Jeffrey Goldberg, The Atlantic; Andrea Mitchell.

This Week With George Stephanopoulos

Fox News Sunday With Chris Wallace Events in Libya and Egypt: Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.). George and Trish Vradenburg, U.S. Against Alzheimer’s. Panel: Brit Hume; Liz Marlantes; the Christian Science Monitor; Bill Kristol; Jeff Zeleny.

I’ve seen Rice on ABC and NBC, and first thing out of her mouth is that this is all about the video.

She’s even conflating Benghanzi, in part, on the video.

And the media are letting the WH get away with this nonsense.

BuckeyeSam on September 16, 2012 at 10:05 AM

LOL “Hateful and offensive video” — Susan Rice, Meet the Press. Will she mention the First amendment or freedom of speech?

David Gregory said the video was “American made”. No, it was not made by America. It was made in America, by a small group, led by an Egyptian Christian. To say “American made” plays into the mob mentality that America made the video, and so is responsible for it.

Paul-Cincy on September 16, 2012 at 10:06 AM

Susan Rice again .. OY.
Cairo, caused by video … Benghazi was a copy-cat.
The heavy weapons used in the latter attack are simply readily available on the streets of Lybia.
Okay.

pambi on September 16, 2012 at 10:06 AM

Well if a nuke goes off in this country you can kiss whatever freedoms we still have goodby for ever. The marxist president would institute marshal law and suspend all elections. It would be the perfect opportunity for him to become a dictator.

bgibbs1000 on September 16, 2012 at 8:45 AM

What a stupid comment. First off, it’s martial law. Anyway, I dislike Obama as much as anyone, but to suggest on here that Obama would almost welcome a nuclear attack in order to become dictator is just, well, embarrassing, and it makes you sound like a nutty paranoid freak of the Steveangell realm.

“A very offensive video” — Susan Rice, Meet the Press. She’s really pushing that meme. What does she find so offensive about it? Did she even watch it? How many times?

Paul-Cincy on September 16, 2012 at 10:08 AM

Is this Saudi Arabia, or the United States? The First Amendment to the Constitution, anyone? Hello? Bueller?

No mention of free speech in Susan Rice’s answer. So still, zero discussion of free speech.

Brit Hume: “… mere Øbamaness …” as a solution proposed by Øbama to all the problems in the Mideast and, well, everywhere. The two word phrase really does capture the narcissistic egotism of Ø’s public statements about his abilities and his influence. Like Amb. Rice said, Ø picked up the phone and called Morsi to have Egyptian security forces and military protect the embassy. That the safety of the embassy is dependent upon the influence of a single person, in this case Øbama, rather than a well-understood policy is thug politics on an international scale.
.
“… mere Øbamaness …”. Democrats are so stupid to believe this liar so remember: never trust a Democrat – they are stupid.

Though I haven’t see all of his appearance, Bibi had two awesome lines. First, he pointed to the Cuban Missile Crisis as an example of acting tough. That had to hit Democrats in the face. Second, he used a football metaphor much better than Obama ever could when he said that he considers Iran to be in the red zone and pushing to the goal line. Who knew the Israeli PM is more American than our current president?

She says the weapons they possess are left over from the Libyan revolution. Yeah, Susan: Random crowds always have their RPG launchers with them when they are having tea in the afternoon.

According to British papers (which is where I have to go to find any actual facts, since our MSM won’t do any actual reporting, being too busy trying to cover the incompetent azz of their Anointed One), there were approximately 50 guards at the Benghazi consulate. Problem is, they were not Americans, they were Libyans. When the crowds (that AQ used the YouTube film to rile up, as cover for their planned attack) showed up, the 50 Libyans guards ran away (some reports say a few even joined the mob).

On one of the shows, Rice was arguing that in Libya the “signficant” security included two of the Americans who were murdered. I realize that one was a former SEAL and the other was former military, but their deaths and the gutting of the facility seem to confirm there was little security.

One thing I saw last night is that few are asking why these four weren’t located in safer Tripoli rather than in a god-awful output (Benghazi).

Libyan president: ‘No doubt’ attack ‘preplanned’

Libya President Mohamed Yousef El-Magariaf said Sunday that 50 arrests have been made in connection with last week’s “preplanned” attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi that left U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans dead.

“The way these perpetrators acted and moved — I think we, and they’re choosing the specific date for this so-called demonstration, I think we have no, this leaves us with no doubt that this was pre-planned, determined,” Magariaf said on CBS’s “Face the Nation.”

“And you believe that this was the work of al Qaeda, and you believe that it was led by foreigners. Is that what you’re telling us?” CBS host Bob Schieffer asked.

“It was planned, definitely. It was planned by foreigners, by people who entered the country a few months ago. And they were planning this criminal act since their arrival,” Magariaf said.

So Ambassador Rice is calling the Libyan president a liar.

It is a sad day when I believe a Libyan president over my own government.

*bangs head on table*

renalin on September 16, 2012 at 11:05 AM

The Libyan president doesn’t believe this was a random act, evidence points to a well-planned attack, and there is plenty of evidence that the US government was warned in advance.

Not only does the administration lie, they then refute their own lie by saying, “The attack was spontaneous, but there is an investigation” kind of spiel. They can’t even lie effectively, which is a sick joke. The FBI isn’t on the ground yet; I doubt the Libyans can assure their security.

Why does Obama keep sending his lackeys to lie when evidence to the contrary is readily available everywhere? This is puzzling to me. Barry couldn’t use an iPhone, so maybe he’s not real handy with the TV remote or the interwebs, either.

Let ‘em twist in the wind. ‘Major foreign policy speech’? Seems to me, that’s for someone in, oh, say the Boy King’s pay grade.

I think Tapper loves playing the “hard hitting” punchy reporter, but it is just an act. Pretty hammy one at that, from the Meryl Streep school of facial expressions.

So long as the American people can go to the UK, Irish, Austrailian, French, Russian, or Israeli press they’ll know that Obama and Hillary ignored a series of warnings from 6 weeks to 2 days out from the attacks.

harlekwin15 on September 16, 2012 at 11:04 AM

The problem is the moocher factor. Thanks to the Won, 50% are on some kind of govt handout and don’t give a rat’s a$$ about this country, just where their next freebie is coming from. And when faced with the choice of freedom vs. freebies, freebies will win every day of the week and twice on sunday. The “they” that you reference are Americans who love this country and want to stay informed. And unfortuntely, the moochers and stupid liberals are the reason that Romney isn’t running away with this thing and leaving Obama in the dust.

Poor Obama! Bless his heart! It’s not his fault!

“A very offensive video” — Susan Rice, Meet the Press. She’s really pushing that meme. What does she find so offensive about it? Did she even watch it? How many times?

Paul-Cincy on September 16, 2012 at 10:08 AM

Just as a social experiment, let’s see if the incineration of most of the ME and No. africa is equally ‘offensive’. We could place a video on youtub.

Watch

Watch for the media to take every utterance from the Romney campaign and compare it to others and then even with the same thought in different words..Voila!

You have inconsistency and flip/flop.

I just heard it last night and today when they were discussing the Romney camp’s line in the sand.

And no US president would ever put a line in the sand…I could give examples with citations… I hope they hit the prayer wall ’cause that whole country is going under the bus!

Watching the administration shills this morning only solidifies my concrete belief that we have no leadership in the White House. We have celebrities, but not leaders.

So now I see the “GOP’ lawmakers want Mitt to change course? The only course that would make the difference in this election with this media is for Mitt to change course and change to the Democrat party… Sick of all of this…

As I just finished breakfast, I could not watch Rice et al. Did anybody mention all the missing documents? Were there laptops stolen too?

clnurnberg on September 16, 2012 at 11:28 AM

Tony Sayegh and Sally ComSymp on Fox on Foreign Policy. Sally is trying to defend Duh Won. LOL. She says Barry is trying to impose American values and culture around the world by allowing them to take root naturally, and the old line values in the Middle East are competing. She says that even though Islamist terrorists are winning, the situation is consistent with American values if we stand aside and let the terrorists win. I believe I just heard that correctly.

Yes! Tony uses the words “appeasement” and “delusional” when it comes to Obama’s belief that his foreign policy would be effective. LOL

Of course not.

pambi on September 16, 2012 at 11:37 AM

Sayegh is laughing out loud at Sally ComSymp because she says Romney is weak on foreign policy. The world is laughing at this administration.
