Matthews: Romney showed disdain for Obama by running against him so early

posted at 9:16 pm on September 14, 2012 by Allahpundit

Via Mediaite and the Right Scoop, he hasn’t reached the point of insisting that the mere act of challenging Obama in an election is racist, but he’s right on the doorstep now. We’re maybe two weeks away from that argument. Less, I figure, if Rasmussen’s tracker is right about Romney inching back into the lead nationally. Granted, he doesn’t utter the R-word here, but it’s clear enough from his “I don’t like the look of it” sneer plus the fact that this is, after all, Chris Matthews, and therefore all critiques of Republican antagonism towards Obama must ultimately devolve into an accusation of racism. The punchline is that the famously ambitious Romney has actually been running for president since 2005 at the latest, and probably since before that. I can’t believe anyone on either side, save Matthews, thinks he wouldn’t have given it another go this time if Hillary had won the presidency four years ago instead.

Needless to say, Bill Clinton was essentially running for president since, oh, the mid-1970s or so. After his national debut at the ’88 convention, it was a fait accompli that he’d run for real in ’92 so long as there was some path to victory in the primaries available to him. (Which there was once Cuomo stayed out.) It wasn’t disrespectful or disdainful or whatever for him to challenge the incumbent. In fact, a friend of mine who knows plenty of Democratic strategists told me that they’d heard that The One himself had someone in Iowa sniffing around since practically the day after he won his Senate election in 2004 — even though Obama famously told reporters at the time that he wasn’t ready to run in 2008. Newsflash: Politicians with a national profile are always thinking about the presidency. To believe otherwise, you either have to be hopelessly naive about American politics or neck-deep in the tank for the candidate you favor. And I’ve never thought Matthews was naive about politics.

Does this deranged man have no loved ones in his life who can intervene and get him the medication he needs? Are they just going to let him flame out on national television like crazy Keith Olbermann did? Don’t MS-DNC employees have medical coverage? It is unseemly to allow such a mentally ill person on television night after night.

What a bunch of loons. Was that Willie Brown there who said Romney and many other Republicans have believed from the beginning that Obama “shouldn’t” be President? WTF does THAT mean? More racial code? Then he says Romney’s not smart enough, and Obama has more “street” than Romney. Double WTF! I don’t even WANT to visit the planet these guys are on.

jaboba on September 14, 2012 at 9:25 PM

Say what!? Really Chrissy? The democrats started running against Bush from the time that the Supreme Court decision stopping Florida judges from rewriting election laws in 2000. You really don’t want to go there. IIRC, after the 2008 elections, the Republicans were in disarray and the only thing going on was people determining who would be viable candidates in 2012. I guess rewriting history will play well to your audience of 5, but they are as in the tank for Obama as you, so I don’t think that makes much difference.

Romney is not smart enough to play head games with Obama? Well, Romney’s religion won’t let him use pot, so I guess he isn’t going to engage Obama in that kind of head game. As far as mental capability, did that guy in the video actually say that Obama was smarter and more nimble thinking than Romney? Really? Uhhh, Ummmm, aahhh, I think, uuuuhhhh, you know, maybe, I ummm uhh.

/Yeah number one draft pick. Sure.

Is Mitt even running? How much less does Tingles want him to do? Just collect money, and donate it to Obama, while not campaigning against Obama?

The country was downgraded again today, and Romney is not going on every channel and hammering Obama. Obama has single-handidly destroyed the Middle East, and Romney gets intimidated by the MSM and shuts up. In business, if an opponent was failing as much as Obama, Romney would go for the kill. Here, Romney just does nothing. And for Tingles, that is still too much?

milcus on September 14, 2012 at 9:33 PM

He does not even have to say the word racist anymore, Chicago is a dog whistle to every white person or something. Every word that Mitt says is a dog whistle. To Matthews, just the name Romney is code word for racists to attack Obama on what every topic the Romney the racist talks about.

Anybody watch that 2008 video of Obama in an interview, boasting about how U.S. relations with the Muslim world will be so much better as soon as he’s inaugurated? It’s (unintentionally) hilarious. The Muslims will all love Barry, he confidently tells the interviewer, because he grew up in a Muslim land and he understands and empathizes with them in a way that we less worldly and sophisticated rubes just can’t. All yes, all will be sweetness and light in the Muslim lands once the Blight-bringer ascends to his rightful place on the throne.

What a narcissistic tool. This idiot actually believed that the fact that he lived in Indonesia for a couple of years as a grade-schooler was going to magically resolve all the problems of Islamofascism.

Naive does not begin to describe Obama. He’s a friggin’ moron, and that’s on a good day.

Go Newt!

Dear Friend,

The self-righteous indignation that the punditry directed at Mitt Romney this week shows that he touched a nerve in his statements on the events in Egypt. You can sense the frustration. The elites are vaguely aware that their ‘enlightened’ posture toward the threat of Islamism is out of step with the views of the American people. Hence the outrage with Romney, totally out of proportion to the real world, as he said what most Americans were thinking.

With an angry mob at the gates of the U.S. embassy in Cairo on the anniversary of the September 11 attacks—ostensibly inflamed by an obscure, anti-Islamic film, the embassy released a groveling statement apologizing for “continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims.” The “protesters” proceeded to breach the embassy walls, tear down the American flag, and raise an Al Qaeda banner. The embassy then reiterated its earlier statement, all before anything was known about the Libyan consulate. The White House and the State Department later condemned the attacks but also tripped over themselves to denounce the obscure, stupid film they had nothing to do with and of which no one had ever heard.

Two American embassies are attacked on September 11 – and, we later learned, the four Americans killed – and the immediate reaction of our leaders and the press is to cast blame on a ridiculous film for inciting the violence.

Thus while condemning the violence, they give legitimacy to the grievance.

As I wrote in an op-ed at Politico yesterday, our elites are determined to analyze each outbreak of Islamist aggression in isolation – as though they’re inexplicable acts of random violence.

The fact is, if it wasn’t the film, it would have been something else.

That’s because it is not “senseless violence,” as President Obama and Secretary Clinton described in their statements. They are attacks in a war that our enemies openly confess to waging. And as accounts of the assault on the Benghazi consulate make clear, they are sophisticated and highly coordinated.

Eleven years after the attacks of September 11, 2001, it’s a tragedy that our leaders refuse to treat seriously our enemies’ motives.

This is nothing new.

Attributing the attacks in Libya and Egypt to a proximate excuse (such as this hateful film) rather than confronting the true nature of our enemies is nothing new for the Obama administration.

Major Nidal Hassan was the Army psychiatrist who shot dozens of people at Fort Hood in 2009 while screaming “Allahu Akbar,” handed out business cards describing himself as a “soldier of Allah,” and sent emails to Anwar al-Awlaki, the American later killed by a drone attack in Yemen as an Al Qaeda member. President Obama after the shooting warning Americans against “jumping to conclusions until we have all the facts.”

Following the attempted Times Square car bombing, the administration jumped to the conclusion that the would-be bomber acted alone. Press reports speculated that the young man had simply cracked under financial pressures. Mayor Michael Bloomberg even suggested the bomber could be an American upset with Obamacare. The administration later admitted that the Pakistani Taliban was responsible for the attack.

In his first statement after the attempted Christmas Day bombing in 2009, President Obama jumped to the conclusion that Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was an “isolated extremist” – only to find later that the attack was organized by Al Qaeda in Yemen.

This intellectual dishonesty is par for the course for an administration that upon entering the White House declared that the “War on Terror” would now be called an “overseas contingency operation,” and whose Secretary of Homeland Security made a point to refer to acts of terrorism as “man-caused disasters.”

This is the mindset, the lead from the top down throughout this administration, that causes an American embassy in Egypt to issue a statement apologizing for the free speech of an irrelevant, unknown filmmaker as a mob outside prepares to breach the walls and hoist an Al Qaeda flag. Mitt Romney was right: it is disgraceful.

Your friend,

Newt

There’s the problem: we have a deceased R&B singer in charge.

Silver linings.

Rational Thought on September 14, 2012 at 10:01 PM

Thanks, but I’ve seen some very good people released from work this week and need more than silver linings for their sake.
Very good people…some who don’t even understand why.
I do and tried to inform them.
Koolaid.

OT: Did Obama actually hold a press conference with the bodies of the dead Americans lined up in hearses behind him?

Jvette on September 14, 2012 at 10:07 PM

Yep and Hilary blamed the video again.

gophergirl on September 14, 2012 at 10:11 PM

Well, that redneck, hick conservative woman was against abortion, wasn’t she? She probably even believed in Jesus Christ as her savior. Probably clinged to that Bible-thingy, too. What’s to have liked about her, after all?

TXUS on September 14, 2012 at 9:59 PM

Being an ethnic minority woman who’s dedicated her whole life to helping the poor just don’t cut it these days………according to progressives you have to renounce God, worship the new Messiah, and donate heavily.

Hey! This palindrome is right!

(no, fellow ‘Nistas, palindrome, not Palin-Drome)

Lanceman on September 14, 2012 at 10:13 PM

Plus the article from the Independent yesterday that there was warning to the State Department 48 h prior to the Libya consulate attack. which the Barry White House tried to parse by saying that there was no “actionable” information.

Some house committee needs to have hearings on Barry/Hillary’s failures very soon.

Feel pretty much the same, but if I said it the way I feel, the Obama WH would probably ask Hot Air to remove my comment, like it was a YouTube video, or something.

P.S. Wait to the WH sees the YouTube video that I’m producing and directing involving the Prophet Mohammed, it will make the so-called provocative one look like a re-make of ‘Singing in the Rain’.

Jvette on September 14, 2012 at 10:07 PM

No presser.
It was a solemn ceremony, Hill’s and his short speeches were eulogies, I guess… Hillary made sure to press the video thang.. sheesh. Families requested the not be photographed, and probably felt the need to ask.
Quietly respectful, but mostly because the military will never do it any other way.
Personally, I was pretty PO’d over making it a spectacle for broadcast. Cannot imagine GWB doing it for the cameras.
Officially being there, no biggie. Privately would have been nice.

Of course your right.
I’ve been far too silent on this sight.
Mostly due to people like yourself carrying the weight, and quite well.
This site has been my sanctuary, but I’m the guy way in the back pew.
I do not “lurk” in the real world however.
I’ve pissed off many a local lib.
I hail from Mass.
It is easy hunting.
Gets kind of boring!

gophergirl on September 14, 2012 at 10:11 PM

I saw that. I guess she didn’t have it in her to put the blame for dropping the ball where it belonged — on her shoulders, and Obama’s. So instead she dishonors their memory by bringing up some stupid video that has nothing to do with anything. Because the day we give up the First Amendment is the day this country is gone. So don’t say something depends on whether someone does or doesn’t put up some YouTube video, because that point is NON-NEGOTIABLE.

OTTO on September 14, 2012 at 10:19 PM

For what it’s worth – I’m not visiting HA as much any more. The reason is articles like this one. How does it do the country or us any good to help Chris Matthews double his audience by reposting what he says here? The guy’s irrelevant.

The “clean up in aisle five” articles don’t do anyone any good – except for Chris Matthews.

Just for what it’s worth… your site, I know.
