Oh noes: A Romney win might diminish our reputation with Europeans
posted at 2:41 pm on September 12, 2012 by Erika Johnsen
If President Obama inspired Americans with his messages of Hopenchange in 2008, it was practically nothing to how gaga Europeans went over him, full of rapture that their delicate sensibilities would no longer be offended by that uncouth cowboy in the office before him.
A while back, we learned that President Obama has more recently been losing some steam with the European crowd, but it seems that that was more of an über-liberals-disappointed-because-Obama-hasn’t-been-liberal-enough type of slackening in popularity, as they’re disillusioned with some of his broken promises of the “close Gitmo”-ilk. It seems that Barack Obama is still Europeans’ vastly preferred choice, however, as they disapprove highly of Mitt Romney and his — quelle horreur — free-market, exceptionalism-touting, Republican ways. Via the Guardian:
The reputation of the US in Europe risks sinking back to Bush-era levels of unpopularity if Mitt Romney becomes president, according to new international polling published on Tuesday.
Only around one in 20 of those surveyed in Britain, France and Germany by YouGov held a positive view of the Republican presidential nominee. …
Forty-seven percent of UK respondents said a Romney victory would make them feel less favourable towards the US, and only 3% would make them feel more favourable.
That sentiment was mirrored in Germany and France, where only 4% and 5% respectively said that he would make them feel more favourable towards the US. In Germany, 48% said it would make them feel less favourable and in France 38%.
Man, I don’t know, guys. What do you think — dealbreaker? What with their many debt crises and severe unemployment levels, coupled with their socialism and their general political foppishness — which is all just working out so well for them — the absence of the European layman’s endorsement is kind of a dagger to my heart. I think I may have to rethink my vote now. …Not. You’ll forgive me, Europe, if I prefer to work for an America that is a strong, robust, take-no-prisoners powerhouse of moral and economic righteousness, rather than just another impotent, piddling player on the international stage. Sorry I’m not sorry.

I was back and forth into Europe several times in 2004. Many statist Euros kept asking me who was going to win that election. I said Bush would be re-elected, and their response was:
“Why? Europeans don’t like him, he isn’t enough like us.”
My response was: “Exactly. That is why he will win.”
Vashta.Nerada on September 12, 2012 at 2:50 PM
Like I have said before, Europe wants Obama to win because he is bringing us down to their level. Europe hates the all powerful US so they are happy to have a US president who destroys its greatness.
Ask any Jets or Bills fan if they would rather have Tom Brady or the backup to Brady starting for the Patriots. Of course they would say the backup, simply because it makes the Pats weaker and makes it easier for the Jets and Bills to compete.

As Europeans start to take a good look at the political landscape right on their own doorsteps, and then begin to realize the dismal reality of the state of their own military, for instance, that France and Britain currently SHARE one air craft carrier between them, they will decide that they would be grateful for our protection.
Obama cannot and will not offer them that protection. Ask the Eastern European nations, particularly Poland and the Czech Republic, about how loyal Obama is, and how committed he is to their welfare.

Nope I don’t think they will change a bit. Free-markets are abhorrent to them. American exceptionalism is a direct blow to their pride. Cody1991 on September 12, 2012 at 3:01 PM
When the nations hostile to the U.S. praise us, that’s like having Harry Reid endorsing you as a conservative candidate. You know you’re in trouble.
The respect other nations have for the U.S. has dropped lower than whale dung in a deep, blue ocean. If only we could get back to the level of respect and fear they had when Bush was President many of the things happening today may not be happening. Now, when Obama or Hillary tell these rogue nations not to cross a line, they just fall over laughing.

Reminds me of something that stuck in my mind. Many years ago I was in Brussels on business. A business associate who was a Belgian citizen of French ancestry was showing me around one evening.
He made a couple of comments about the British and the Germans that I still remember. He said the British were lazy and the Germans were uncreative. I laughed to myself. It made me realize a lot of Europeans still don’t like each other much. And then the mess in Yugoslavia started.

This is a dumbass article about a dumbass poll.
The statement “47% will view the US more unfavorable if Romney wins” tells you nothing. What if 100% of the 47% already view the US unfavorably?
They’re being cute with this because the US is already viewed unfavorably under Obama’s watch and they don’t want to say it.
They just want to give the impression that it’ll be DOOOOOOOM if Romney gets elected.

For almost 100 years we’ve been carrying Europe. Two World Wars. It was France who got us into Vietnam. It was THEIR colonialism that we’re dealing with now. There was a reason our ancestors packed up and left. There was a reason those same ancestors took action in 1776.
Peace be with you, Europe. But the next time your banks need an infusion of our money, you may stuff your need where the sun don’t shine. France is pure socialist; England is pure Islamic. I’m very tired of them all and think George Washington might be right about foreign entanglements.

European democratic socialism would have collapsed under its own weight decades ago had the United States not born most of the cost of Europe’s defense and defense of the high seas.
Sure, they would love to see us circling the drain along with them now. Misery loves company, and Obama is incapable of any thought outside the socialist box. Of course he is preferred by Europe, as was John Kerry.
