Obamateurism of the Day

posted at 8:01 am on September 12, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

Recently, Governor John Kasich claimed credit for creating more than 120,000 jobs in Ohio since taking office in January 2011.  Kasich told the Republican Convention last month that putting the state’s budget back in balance without accounting gimmicks or tax hikes encouraged investment in the state.  Barack Obama wasn’t about to let Kasich take all the credit for that, however:

“John Kasich stood up there and told everybody that Ohio is now number one in the Midwest in job creation, fourth best in America — which got folks kind of confused, because if it’s all Obama’s fault and nothing is going right, what’s going on in Ohio?” the president asked a crowd at a Labor Day rally in Toledo. “Now, I guess the theory was that it’s all the Governor’s doing. But I think we need to refresh his memory — because a lot of those jobs are autoworker jobs like yours.”

Really?  How many autoworker jobs has Ohio gained in since January 2011?  The BLS data for auto manufacturing and auto-parts manufacturing, screen-grabbed below, should give us a pretty good idea.  In January 2011, Ohio had 19,200 auto manufacturing jobs; as of July (the latest data), there are 17,800, for a decrease of 1400 jobs.  In auto parts manufacturing, Ohio had 56,000 jobs in January 2011, and only 54,200 now, for another decrease of 1800 jobs — a grand total of a net loss of 3200 jobs in this sector.

Well, maybe Obama meant throughout his presidency.  The numbers there are almost as bad.  In the first full month of the Obama term in February 2009, Ohio had 59,000 auto parts manufacturing jobs and 19,400 auto manufacturing jobs.  Those dropped to 50,900 and 14,200 in June 2009 at the start of the recovery, and bounced back up to the present level as noted above.  It’s still a net decrease over Obama’s tenure of 6400 jobs in this sector.

Clearly, the jobs growth took place elsewhere in Ohio.  Kasich doesn’t need his recollection refreshed.  Obama needs a refresher course in math.

Got an Obamateurism of the Day? If you see a foul-up by Barack Obama, e-mail it to me at obamaisms@edmorrissey.com with the quote and the link to the Obamateurism. I’ll post the best Obamateurisms on a daily basis, depending on how many I receive. Include a link to your blog, and I’ll give some link love as well. And unlike Slate, I promise to end the feature when Barack Obama leaves office.

Figures lie and liars figure. That old saw is as true now as it ever was. Perhaps we should have a math component to the debates. Used to be a show on called ‘Reach for the Top’ that pitted college students against each other in a battle of knowledge. Why isn’t there one like that to confirm that a candidate at least has the basic grasp of the job and it’s wide range of responsibilities?

Obama wouldn’t have made it past the first round.

The scoamf is a worthless innumerate idiot. He lies like he smokes- which is to say constantly.

Yesterday, on 9/11 mind you, two US embassies were attacked by muslim pigs and 3 US citizens were killed.

Our dentskulled freak president responded quickly and strongly by talking to some dolt DJ named “the pimp with the limp” and announcing an appearance on letterman.

I dunno, perhaps our president might have done something else in light of this situation. If in fact he was a president, and not a brain dead prancing jackass.

And of course the fey sissy throwing dunce doesn’t have time to speak with the leader of Israel while Netanyahu is in the US. Something about a lunatic country developing nuclear weapons, led by a furry evil hobbit, and Israel being the last best hope to prevent that from happening comes to mind here – and yet preezy the dunce would rather think about his tv and radio appearances.

Funny, I thought the arseclown in chief was jabbering just last month about how no other president has been a greater friend to Israel.

What an absolute waste of oxygen we have as president. This idiot punk is stealing salary. Less than 8 weeks to vote the utter fraud out.

Gads, I hate the empty vessel that infests our White House.

Unfortunately, this is correct. The MSM will only report Obama’s claim and not its debunking. This episode is another score in Obama’s column in the battle for Ohio.

No, he’s the one that borrowed a trillion dollars from China in an effort to put the tree back together again. There were people in the private sector who were willing to plant more cherry trees, but Obama took all the money they needed to do it with.

It just burns the Dems up that John Kasich, who was the chair of the Budget Committee that (mostly) balanced the federal budget, came back to Ohio (eventually) and cleaned up our state budget in the same way.

I was proud to have him as my representative then, and still wonder what might have been if he had been the nominee in 2000 instead of W.

The Schaef on September 12, 2012 at 9:02 AM

a grand total of a net loss of 3200 jobs in this sector.

But that isn’t counting the jobs he intended to create. With these criminals it is all about intent and not about the results. It’s like the photo-op he had at the bridge between Oiho (sic) and Kentucky where he lectured the Congress about “investing” in infrastructure like the bridge behind him. Only problem was that bridge wasn’t slated for any sort of federal funding. But never let the facts get in the way of a photo-op.

Be very wary of using unadjusted numbers across different months. With that said, Obama’s seizure of GM and Chrysler happened in mid-2009, and both GM and Chrysler shut down some of their Ohio operations, so they had next to nothing to do with the post-2009 increase.

Steve Eggleston on September 12, 2012 at 9:21 AM

The pResident and his trusty sidekick were in Ohio repeatedly in 2010 campaigning for Strickland….to no avail. The majority of voters didn’t fall for the BS he was dishing out then either.

Let’s just pray there will be enough of the smart voters that will turnout again in 2012.

Behavior reinforced is behavior repeated.

Obama is not the enemy, he is a symptom.

The enemy is the media which categorically refuses to question any statement made by someone who shares their values, while continually decrying all statements made by someone who does not.

Obama is a liar. Other men who held the office lied. And when the media did their job, those lies were made plain, and the potential damage to the nation from those lies was mitigated. This is true of Wilson, of Hoover, of FDR, of Truman, Of Johnson, of Nixon, of all of them on one way or another, until the media chose to aggressively ignore lies from one side, while aggresssively suggesting lies from the other side even when they did not exist.

The previous pinnacle of this behavior was the suppression of more than a dozen Governor Clinton scandals, effectively whitewashing him as a viable candidate for national office. The irresponsibly partisan media did not care to unplug their ears over Troopergate, Flowers, Jones, Broaddrick, Whitewater, etc., so the American public simply did not know. When the “Bimbo Eruptions” came to the surface, Clinton temporarily suspended his presidential campaign. When the furor died down, he made his “come-back”, fully supported by the partisan, treasonous media. This was the genesis of the “move on” movement.

The behavior continued, very nearly landing a horribly unprincipled liar, thief, and narcissist into the White House in 2000, by the name of Al Gore. Only a treasonous media could fail to recognize the almost entirely nonexistent life record of accomplishments of this man, unless you include Chicago-style business deals.

Well, the lesson has been learned. The treasonous, partisan media will always support the Left and attack the Right. So why not send in a complete cypher, a nobody, an EMPTY CHAIR to advance their cause? Obama has nothing to fear about his record, because his record will not be made as public as it should be, because it doesn’t fit the media’s wishes.

Obama is not the enemy. He is a symptom. That a Keynesian Marxist can ascend, in this great nation, to the highest office in the land, says not a thing about Obama, but volumes about the treasonous, partisan media who refused to look at who and what they were supporting.

Freelancer on September 12, 2012 at 11:27 AM

Hopefully Romney picks up on this and makes a commercial and shows it in all 50 states. Obama says one thing, but the truth is entirely another. If Romney doesn’t jump on this one PARTICULARLY IN OHIO, he’s falling short in campaign strategy.

+1000, well said. The enemedia is our biggest problem.

A glimmer of light is that people are waking up. I am one, who did not realize the bias, the suppression of legitimate and important news stories, or the huge lefty composition of most MSM journalists until after Obama was in office.

When Hollywood scratches its collective head and wonders why box office revenue is down, or TV execs don’t know why their audiences are leaving, or the left gets bent out of shape because people show up in droves at Chick-Fil-A, or are suprised people would choose not to patronize the establishment of an Obama supporter, we know why. Lots of people are paying attention that weren’t before 2009. I don’t think the media or the left (repeating myself) realize how many people are on to them. Let’s hope Nov 8 offers convincing proof.
