Video: Obama criticizes Romney for politics of Libya statement while headin’ off for campaign fun in Vegas

posted at 5:11 pm on September 12, 2012 by Allahpundit

I kind of like that he’s going through with the campaign rally tonight — held in America’s quintessential vacation destination, no less — just because it helps further expose the media’s fake outrage over Romney’s statement this morning for the concern-trolling fraud that it is. If they really cared as much about “optics” as they pretended to a few hours ago, they’d destroy him over the callousness of a big rally in Sin City while people are wondering what the hell happened yesterday in Libya. There’d be no need to raise points like this:

As it is, Obama’s going to be given a pass from most of the press when he shows up in Vegas tonight for another speech about how righteous his foreign policy record is. Quick question for President Pitching Wedge if he’s not too busy with more important stuff: Did he have reason to know that jihadist groups have been threatening the consulate in Benghazi for months? International correspondents seem to have noticed:

The group suspected to be behind the assault — the Imprisoned Omar Abdul Rahman Brigades — first surfaced in May, when it claimed responsibility for an attack on the International Red Cross office in Benghazi. The following month the group claimed responsibility for detonating an explosive device outside the U.S. Consulate, and later released a video of that attack…

Benotman, who had earlier warned of the likelihood of renewed attacks against U.S. interest in Libya, said the Omar Abdul Rahman Brigades is a prime suspect in the Benghazi attack Tuesday. He believes it is likely the deadly attack was also linked to a video statement released by al-Zawahiri on the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. In the video, al-Zawahiri confirmed the death of al-Libi — a prominent member of the al Qaeda-linked group — adding: “His blood is calling, urging and inciting you to fight and kill the crusaders.”

The video released by the Brigades in June showed nighttime explosions around the consulate, interlaced with footage of Osama bin Laden and al-Zawahiri, along with images from the 9/11 attacks. At the time the Brigades claimed it had launched the attack in response to the first reports of al-Libi’s death in a drone strike in the tribal areas of Pakistan.

Notably, the Brigades said the June 5 attack was also timed to coincide with preparations for the arrival of a senior U.S. State Department official.

Go figure that a jihadist group that had targeted the consulate before might try something on 9/11, just as the leader of Al Qaeda was putting out a message eulogizing one of AQ’s Libyan capos. The signs were there; one of the Marines at the consulate apparently even saw Libyan “security” taking photos of the compound beforehand. What did the State Department do to prepare? Why are Marines only being sent now, after the fact, to beef up security? Why was there no evacuation plan in place? Why, apparently, didn’t Obama attend any of his daily intel briefings this week with the anniversary of 9/11 bearing down? Why did his campaign move more quickly to condemn Romney for his statement than the White House did to condemn the mob activity in Cairo and Benghazi? Why do these questions only seem to get asked of presidents from the party disfavored by the concern trolls we call reporters?

Here’s O chatting with CBS this afternoon by accusing the most famously cautious presidential candidate in recent U.S. history of being a “shoot first, aim later” kind of guy. Question for CBS: Did you ask him any questions about the security failures in Benghazi yesterday? If so, why isn’t his answer to that being circulated as the clip du jour instead of this dial-tone critique of Romney?

Update: This is actually happening, guys. You’re not dreaming. We live in a country where “serious” political media is actually pushing this meme:

..Gracie, ed hit this pretty hard on his show today. The Mooze-lem mucky-mucks in Libya are calling for a “peaceful” day of protest (yeah, right) over this film thingy on Friday. It is speculated that this will devolve into a violent event and that the embassy might be sacked yet again. Possibly there might be hostages taken, etc.

Dunno if you are old enough to remember how the embassy was overrun in ’79, but it’s sure eerily beginning to feel like that may happen again.

The Libyan government has been blaming amorphous pro-Qaddafi elements for everything that goes wrong in their country,” said Tom Malinowski, Washington director of Human Rights Watch. “It’s a way of denying the hard truth that the biggest threat they face to their hopes for democracy and the rule of law comes from among their own fellow former revolutionaries.”

The Libyan government has failed to respond to a series of provocations by these groups, Malinowski said.

“The responsibility for this crime falls squarely on the people who perpetrated it and on the Libyan authorities, who have failed thus far to rein in armed elements that defy the law in Libya with impunity, whether by destroying Sufi shrines, attacking aid groups, or now murdering a U.S. ambassador,” he said. “The majority of Libyans are not responsible for this, but they are responsible for stopping it by confronting these armed groups once and for all.”

TFG’s not the only one running away from his responsibilities.

I seriously doubt the Media in the USSR was more corrupt than the Media in America is today.

This CBS Report is an out right lie.

Fact 1: There was a statement before the attack.

Fact 2: There were statements after the attack as well. They reiterated the earlier Statement before condemming the Attack.

Fact 3: According to the MSM Fact 2 never happened. This is an absolute alternate reality being portrayed as a reality.

I read one of the reports earlier they burried nearly at the end of the story the fact that this statement was in fact made after the Attack.

It however is somewhat Romneys fault. He did not call a Press Conference nor did he make a fuller statement. He for example should have quoted the entire statement he was referring to.

However I doubt he understood the Main Stream Media had just become another part of the DNC.

We are starting to see now what I have been predicting. Obama’s actual plan to win reelection. Total takeover of all Media. How long before he shuts down FNC and Glenn Beck?

Presidential Proclamation — Honoring the Victims of the Attack in Benghazi, Libya

HONORING THE VICTIMS OF THE ATTACK IN BENGHAZI, LIBYA

- – - – - – -

BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

A PROCLAMATION

As a mark of respect for the memory of John Christopher Stevens, United States Ambassador to Libya, and American personnel killed in the senseless attack on our diplomatic facility in Benghazi, by the authority vested in me as President of the United States by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset, September 16, 2012. I also direct that the flag shall be flown at half-staff for the same length of time at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twelfth day of September, in the year of our Lord two thousand twelve, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-seventh.

Ironically, bin laden himself later admitted that the 9/11 attacks were supposed to happen before Clinton left office. He dearly wanted to hit America again on Clinton’s Watch, because of his deep hatred for the man. The only reason the attacks were delayed was simple-Mohammed Atta told bin Laden that he and his crews needed more training time.

Considering that they succeeded in hitting 75% of their targets that day, that extra time was worthwhile.

From Sarah palin’s facebook page:

It’s about time our president stood up for America and condemned these Islamic extremists. I realize there must be a lot on his mind these days – what with our economy’s abysmal jobless numbers and Moody’s new warning about yet another downgrade to our nation’s credit rating due to the current administration’s failure to come up with a credible deficit reduction plan. And, of course, he has a busy schedule – with all those rounds of golf, softball interviews with the “Pimp with the Limp,” and fundraising dinners with his corporate cronies. But our nation’s security should be of utmost importance to our Commander-in-chief. America can’t afford any more “leading from behind” in such a dangerous world. We already know that President Obama likes to “speak softly” to our enemies. If he doesn’t have a “big stick” to carry, maybe it’s time for him to grow one.

jb34461 on September 12, 2012 at 6:04 PM

Thanx. I’m pretty old and I do remember ’79.

I can’t believe that BO has skipped town as if this is none of his doing and even less of his responsibility to see us through this. Like he wants us to be terrified and deeply saddened at the same time.

..well, my apologies. A gentleman does not do the math on a lady’s age. But you know what I was getting at. I think he’s campaigning because, as we all know, it’s what he does best.

I still firmly believe that there’s a rage fomenting in this country that is not addressed by the horribly-skewed and manipulated polls.

What is it going to take for the American media to pull its collective head out of its hindquarters. Barack Obama could take a dump on the American flag and wipe himself with the U.S. Constitution and they’d all sit around clapping and drooling.

Pretty much what Newt said on television, to which he got, “Do you have proof of this coordination?” in response. Newt got em with his reply, though, which was basically, I don’t have to be privy to State Department communiques to connect the dots.

i know…kill Romney….

while people are wondering what the hell happened yesterday in Libya.

An act of war, is it not? Just asking. The fact that the Emperor Zero is living it up in Vegas sends a very clear message.

Now if someone attacked the Russian embassy, would Vlad take off for a fundraiser? Obama just declared open season on Americans.

What are the RoE for the Marines going into Libya? Do they even have firearms and live ammo?

dogsoldier on September 12, 2012 at 6:12 PM

The CIC is going to “work with the Libyan government” to track down and bring the killers to justice. Good luck with that.

If I owned a newspaper/blog/website tomorrows edition would be saturated with photos of the celebrity in chief whooping it up in Vegas with his celebrity friends. But then, no one would pay attention to it and the president’s ratings would skyrocket.

Its a manufactured crisis and they could use anything to make it happen. A Teddy Bear, a flushed Koran, cartoons, a film, a Florida Pastor or what have you.

They were going to riot and kill regardless and the film was a convenient excuse.

BARACK OBAMA’S PRESIDENCY BEGAN WITH AN APOLOGY TO EGYPT
AND IT ENDED WITH AN APOLOGY TO EGYPT

Key West Reader on September 12, 2012 at 6:14 PM

What did the State Department do to prepare? Why are Marines only being sent now, after the fact, to beef up security? Why was there no evacuation plan in place? Why, apparently, didn’t Obama attend any of his daily intel briefings this week with the anniversary of 9/11 bearing down? Why did his campaign move more quickly to condemn Romney for his statement than the White House did to condemn the mob activity in Cairo and Benghazi? Why do these questions only seem to get asked of presidents from the party disfavored by the concern trolls we call reporters?

There a question I’d add to that list.

The Administration has said that “Washington” hadn’t cleared the statement The Cairo Embassy put out. According to the timeline at the Atlantic, the Grand Mufti of Egypt first condemned the film on September 9th and the Embassy statement appears to be due to Egyptian Media reporting on it early on the day of September 11th.

Additionally, according to the Atlantic, the statement in question wasn’t the tweet but a full statement on another Embassy web page, linked to and repeated in parts in the Embassy tweets.

So here is the question, two actually: Did “Washington” receive a request for clearance of said statement from the Cairo Embassy? And when was it sent by the Embassy?

The statement was first referred to in a Cairo Embassy tweet at 6:11AM EST (12:11PM Cairo), so the statement went up by then and shortly after the the crowd started gaterhing at 11AM, Cairo time. A tweet similar to the intent of the statement first went out at 5:53AM EST (11:53AM Cairo).

Could it be that the statement wasn’t approved because someone didn’t answer their 3AM EST phone call? Or was it just the ordinary problem of this Administration that they’d had the request sine the 9th and hadn’t gotten around to giving them an answer to the request?

Dusty on September 12, 2012 at 6:15 PM

Aren’t we supposed to boycott Las Vegas? That’s what Obama said.

RovesChins on September 12, 2012 at 6:02 PM

I am BOILING. You are exactly right; the boy king who “shot, and then took aim”, back at the beginning of his reign did decree that his subjects avoid “fancy get-together’s” at places like Vegas. This little turd reeks of hypocrisy to the extent that I can’t articulate. I know there are a lot of smart people who post here, so what can we do to express our disdain for the media and how they’re covering up for this creep in the White House?

The majority of the so-called mainstream media is filled with TRAITOROUS LIARS.

Tell it like it is.

PappyD61 on September 12, 2012 at 6:17 PM

Ooooh Romney struck a nerve. Probably because he is the only person who at all sounded Presidential over these last few days.

I think if we win in November – the MSM as we now know it will cease to exist. They will have biased themselves right out of relevance.

On another topic – what a HORRIBLE day.

gophergirl on September 12, 2012 at 6:17 PM

This is a painful reminder that even if we by some miracle manage to defeat Comrade Soetoro, his leg-tingled presstitutes will remain in full force, and they will be relentless in their pursuit of scandals, real or imaginary, on 24×7 basis, against a Republican president — even one as RINO-qualified as Mittens.

I wish there was some way to replace the media, too. And while we’re at it, academia.

bgibbs1000 on September 12, 2012 at 6:07 PM

..I am guessing that you saw his press conference — and hoping you saw the shameless open-mic coordination of the press beforehand. He did well in the face of some pretty vicious questions.

He did what a lot of people her eon HG asked him to do: stand up to Obama’s outrageous stewardship of crises like these. He was presidential and in control.

I still believe, like Andrew Klavan said about this race, Romney knows a lot more than he is letting on.

Romney and Obama are polling by the minute – far, far more often and more accurately than the professional pollsters. Which one of them looks frightened to you? Me too.

..ask yourself, who stood there and took the fire and who hurled the brickbats over his shoulder as he was boarding an airplane to Vegas?

If Romney had said nothing, the theme on the MSM tonight would have been “see, he has no idea how to handle foreign policy”.

They are a bunch of idiots who just happened to have cameras in front of them.

I’m casting my vote for Romney, completely against Obama and equally to bitchslap the media.
