Video: Obama criticizes Romney for politics of Libya statement while headin’ off for campaign fun in Vegas

posted at 5:11 pm on September 12, 2012 by Allahpundit

I kind of like that he’s going through with the campaign rally tonight — held in America’s quintessential vacation destination, no less — just because it helps further expose the media’s fake outrage over Romney’s statement this morning for the concern-trolling fraud that it is. If they really cared as much about “optics” as they pretended to a few hours ago, they’d destroy him over the callousness of a big rally in Sin City while people are wondering what the hell happened yesterday in Libya. There’d be no need to raise points like this:

As it is, Obama’s going to be given a pass from most of the press when he shows up in Vegas tonight for another speech about how righteous his foreign policy record is. Quick question for President Pitching Wedge if he’s not too busy with more important stuff: Did he have reason to know that jihadist groups have been threatening the consulate in Benghazi for months? International correspondents seem to have noticed:

The group suspected to be behind the assault — the Imprisoned Omar Abdul Rahman Brigades — first surfaced in May, when it claimed responsibility for an attack on the International Red Cross office in Benghazi. The following month the group claimed responsibility for detonating an explosive device outside the U.S. Consulate, and later released a video of that attack…

Benotman, who had earlier warned of the likelihood of renewed attacks against U.S. interest in Libya, said the Omar Abdul Rahman Brigades is a prime suspect in the Benghazi attack Tuesday. He believes it is likely the deadly attack was also linked to a video statement released by al-Zawahiri on the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. In the video, al-Zawahiri confirmed the death of al-Libi — a prominent member of the al Qaeda-linked group — adding: “His blood is calling, urging and inciting you to fight and kill the crusaders.”

The video released by the Brigades in June showed nighttime explosions around the consulate, interlaced with footage of Osama bin Laden and al-Zawahiri, along with images from the 9/11 attacks. At the time the Brigades claimed it had launched the attack in response to the first reports of al-Libi’s death in a drone strike in the tribal areas of Pakistan.

Notably, the Brigades said the June 5 attack was also timed to coincide with preparations for the arrival of a senior U.S. State Department official.

Go figure that a jihadist group that had targeted the consulate before might try something on 9/11, just as the leader of Al Qaeda was putting out a message eulogizing one of AQ’s Libyan capos. The signs were there; one of the Marines at the consulate apparently even saw Libyan “security” taking photos of the compound beforehand. What did the State Department do to prepare? Why are Marines only being sent now, after the fact, to beef up security? Why was there no evacuation plan in place? Why, apparently, didn’t Obama attend any of his daily intel briefings this week with the anniversary of 9/11 bearing down? Why did his campaign move more quickly to condemn Romney for his statement than the White House did to condemn the mob activity in Cairo and Benghazi? Why do these questions only seem to get asked of presidents from the party disfavored by the concern trolls we call reporters?

Here’s O chatting with CBS this afternoon by accusing the most famously cautious presidential candidate in recent U.S. history of being a “shoot first, aim later” kind of guy. Question for CBS: Did you ask him any questions about the security failures in Benghazi yesterday? If so, why isn’t his answer to that being circulated as the clip du jour instead of this dial-tone critique of Romney?

Update: This is actually happening, guys. You’re not dreaming. We live in a country where “serious” political media is actually pushing this meme:

Let them. The only “desperate reach” is by the Democrat/media complex. Romney and his surrogates need to hammer Obama over the Vegas trip, the lack of outrage by his administration by these acts of war, their misdirected outrage at a few amateur American filmmakers, and the so-called Arab Spring that his administration helped foster that led to these deaths. Don’t back down, Mitt. You’re right on this one. We all know you’re right. And we’ll have you’re back as long as you fight the left with everything you’ve got.

Great…Obama having a blast in Vegas while everyone else in Congress has to sort through the mess of the security failures that happened….The News Media doesn’t care one whit about the lives that were lost…They only care about messaging for Obama’s Campaign.

Mitt Romney’s statement was exactly what was going through my own mind last night learning about the pathetic, heartless, apology to the Muslims while our consolate, embassies, were under assault.

In my opinion, Obama is absent without leave at this point.

He leaves his duties as President of the United States of America, at a time when another nation has committed an act of war against this nation, the entire region around the incident being incredibly unstable and volatile, refuses to meet with a key ally in the region, and flies away to campaign in Las Vegas.

Criticizing Romney on is way into the airplane is tantamount to the little kid on the play ground who yells “…you stink!” over his shoulder, at another kid on the playground who just beat him at tether ball, as he climbs in his mother’s SUV to go home.

Is anyone REALLY surprised that the MSM, so heavily invested in Obama, would warp and twist every single word or deed to try and benefit his cause?

Matthews actually said that he got a thrill down his leg listening to Obama speak. He has spent every waking minute since that day desperately defending the one. WHY? Because look at what an ass he looks like if Obama turns out to be ORDINARY.. or worse… FAILS.

Virtually ALL of these supposed journalists in the MSM, over the last four years, have invested their personal integrity, their journalistic integrity, and all of their career capital in OBAMA, and keeping the ridiculous image of him as a ‘messiah’ alive, otherwise extraordinary figure… alive.

They have forsaken any appearance of objectivity. They have divorced themselves from journalistic integrity. Those words must actually turn to grit upon their tongue when they try to speak them… if they even still dare.

As Obama fails… they fail. Hence, the desperate and naked obfuscation, warping and twisting of events and words, and naked aggression toward any who disagree with them and/or threaten in any way to highlight or expose their duplicity.

Yeah seriously, if the pundits spent half as much time talking about “WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED,” rather than a written statement put out late last night before the revolutions this morning hit.

Frankly, I don’t think it makes a difference. This reads to me as a desperate defense, and uses vaporous logic that most Americans dislodge. I think this hurts Obama, whether the idiots in the MSM want to admit it or not.

It’s HIS security failure, HE is the one that ignored intelligence, and HE is the one that initially tried to placate the Islamic nutters in the middle east.

He cannot defense himself, so he’s trying to change the subject through the media. The optics however, overpower the narrative.

What tragedy happened in Benghazi? Does Chrissy mean the act of war which resulted in the assassination of Stevens? Stevens death is a tragedy, of course, but it wasn’t some TRAGEDY that occurred which caused his death, it was an intentional act of war!

Tingles is not the problem. It goes much much deeper than that. It is corruption deep in the legacy humper organization.

By the end of the the week, Stephanie Cutter will be accusing Romney of being the murderer of the Ambassador.

Can we just make Romney President now???

Romney sure as hell looked more like a President today then the wanker we got…..

redguy on September 12, 2012 at 5:39 PM

Of course it’s someone else’s fault! Obama does no wrong, heals the earth and has saved humanity.

What a jacka$$! And what fools we were to allow him to be elected. We should have rioted in the streets the following day and kept destroying civilization until the Meida actually did their real job and REPORT the news without political bias.

Full meltdown at Obama campaign and msm. How dare Romney look more presidential. Its 3 am and as I understand it Obama is fundraising in Las Vegas? Clint Eastwood looks more brilliant by the day.

Ellis on September 12, 2012 at 5:40 PM

The only chair Obama can find the time to fill is on AF1 on another campaign junket.

HumpBot Salvation on September 12, 2012 at 5:40 PM

Any truth to the rumor that he’s there to bet his campaign funds on the craps table to try and compete with Romney?

teke184 on September 12, 2012 at 5:13 PM

Yes, Obama is betting $16 TRILLION on BLACK…….

redguy on September 12, 2012 at 5:40 PM

I bet Tingles doesn’t have the guts to show Mitt’s entire press conference.

If they did, everyone would be scratching their head at Matthews’ outrageous outrage.

WisRich on September 12, 2012 at 5:35 PM

We’ve got a better chance of seeing bigfoot than we do Mitt’s press conference.
