Video: Obama criticizes Romney for politics of Libya statement while headin’ off for campaign fun in Vegas

posted at 5:11 pm on September 12, 2012 by Allahpundit

I kind of like that he’s going through with the campaign rally tonight — held in America’s quintessential vacation destination, no less — just because it helps further expose the media’s fake outrage over Romney’s statement this morning for the concern-trolling fraud that it is. If they really cared as much about “optics” as they pretended to a few hours ago, they’d destroy him over the callousness of a big rally in Sin City while people are wondering what the hell happened yesterday in Libya. There’d be no need to raise points like this:

As it is, Obama’s going to be given a pass from most of the press when he shows up in Vegas tonight for another speech about how righteous his foreign policy record is. Quick question for President Pitching Wedge if he’s not too busy with more important stuff: Did he have reason to know that jihadist groups have been threatening the consulate in Benghazi for months? International correspondents seem to have noticed:

The group suspected to be behind the assault — the Imprisoned Omar Abdul Rahman Brigades — first surfaced in May, when it claimed responsibility for an attack on the International Red Cross office in Benghazi. The following month the group claimed responsibility for detonating an explosive device outside the U.S. Consulate, and later released a video of that attack…

Benotman, who had earlier warned of the likelihood of renewed attacks against U.S. interest in Libya, said the Omar Abdul Rahman Brigades is a prime suspect in the Benghazi attack Tuesday. He believes it is likely the deadly attack was also linked to a video statement released by al-Zawahiri on the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. In the video, al-Zawahiri confirmed the death of al-Libi — a prominent member of the al Qaeda-linked group — adding: “His blood is calling, urging and inciting you to fight and kill the crusaders.”

The video released by the Brigades in June showed nighttime explosions around the consulate, interlaced with footage of Osama bin Laden and al-Zawahiri, along with images from the 9/11 attacks. At the time the Brigades claimed it had launched the attack in response to the first reports of al-Libi’s death in a drone strike in the tribal areas of Pakistan.

Notably, the Brigades said the June 5 attack was also timed to coincide with preparations for the arrival of a senior U.S. State Department official.

Go figure that a jihadist group that had targeted the consulate before might try something on 9/11, just as the leader of Al Qaeda was putting out a message eulogizing one of AQ’s Libyan capos. The signs were there; one of the Marines at the consulate apparently even saw Libyan “security” taking photos of the compound beforehand. What did the State Department do to prepare? Why are Marines only being sent now, after the fact, to beef up security? Why was there no evacuation plan in place? Why, apparently, didn’t Obama attend any of his daily intel briefings this week with the anniversary of 9/11 bearing down? Why did his campaign move more quickly to condemn Romney for his statement than the White House did to condemn the mob activity in Cairo and Benghazi? Why do these questions only seem to get asked of presidents from the party disfavored by the concern trolls we call reporters?

Here’s O chatting with CBS this afternoon by accusing the most famously cautious presidential candidate in recent U.S. history of being a “shoot first, aim later” kind of guy. Question for CBS: Did you ask him any questions about the security failures in Benghazi yesterday? If so, why isn’t his answer to that being circulated as the clip du jour instead of this dial-tone critique of Romney?

Update: This is actually happening, guys. You’re not dreaming. We live in a country where “serious” political media is actually pushing this meme:

Is tonight’s Vegas event being covered by the Palace Guard? Will Obama be all happy and fluffy and preacher like?

What kind of leader does it take to have an act of war declared on your nation and then hop a flight to Vegas?

This is surrealville.

Mitt needs an ad out immediately nationwide to hit back at what the marxist accused him of. The press isn’t going to give him the time of day on a response now. They’ve circled the wagons. Where is the vaunted Death Star?

bgibbs1000 on September 12, 2012 at 7:38 PM

In my opinion, Obama is absent without leave at this point.

He leaves his duties as President of the United States of America, at a time when another nation has committed an act of war against this nation, the entire region around the incident being incredibly unstable and volatile, refuses to meet with a key ally in the region, and flies away to campaign in Las Vegas.

Criticizing Romney on is way into the airplane is tantamount to the little kid on the play ground who yells “…you stink!” over his shoulder, at another kid on the playground who just beat him at tether ball, as he climbs in his mother’s SUV to go home.

thatsafactjack on September 12, 2012 at 5:27 PM

Thank you for saying it for me.

What the heck do we do when the Commander-in-Chief is AWOL??!!

0bama’s failure to attend a single security briefing in the week before 9/11, plus his 38% attendance rate over the last year (I believe that is the figure quoted in the study), combined with his lying to the American people that he is “too busy” to meet the Pimre Minister of Israel (it’s one’s thing to say you don’t want to meet the PM; it’s another to LIE to the people while still booking a David Letterman Show appearance), plus the fact that he just got in a plane and flew across the country to a fundraiser, leaving the Oval Office EMPTY WHILE OUR EMBASSIES ARE SURROUNDED, constitutes a clear preponderance of evidence that the president is in blatant violation of his Oath of Office, and has abandoned his post.

I believe that we have finally reached the point where the only course of action that honors the Constitution is impeachment by the House of Representatives is in order, if the wishes of the Founders are to be respected.

Impeach the president. Immediately.

The sovereign territory of the United States was attacked in coordinated terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 2012, and the President of the United States chose to go to Las Vegas to raise campaign funds. This is beyond dereliction of duty, it’s treasonous.

Trafalgar on September 12, 2012 at 7:43 PM

I hope Romney makes at least this point, if no other, in the debates:

Obama is a far better campaigner that he is an executive. And he’s not even a very good campaigner because if an incumbent President also has the media shilling for him, he should be a lot further ahead than Obama is.

41% said a guy like Barry is intelligent when he thought there are 57 states, cannot operate a iPhone, thinks “Made in the USA” are 3 words and can’t talk his way of of a paper bag without teleprompter.
And 25% only said Romney is intelligent after he finished MBA/JD, a program with 10 students a year, in 4 years. And was at the top of the class in HBS, and is a successsful businessman worth over 250 millions.

And 39% thought Barry is hard working ,when he never really had a real job, arrived at the Oval Office after 930 AM and would not stay past 4:30PM. no cabinet meeting in 6 months, played 600 hours of golf.
And 32 % only thought someone who worked 70 to 100 hours a week a Bain and the Salt Lake City Olympics was hard working.

The point is that this has nothing to do with the embassy “sympathizing” with the mob. It has to do with the embassy refusing to stand up for freedom of speech in the face of a foreign attempt at a heckler’s veto. Instead of denouncing it, the embassy instead said it agreed with the grievance.

Earlier today I was outraged at the obamamedia’s corruption and treason in trying to turn a BARACK OBAMA FOREIGN POLICY DISASTER into a hit job on Mitt Romney. But as I’ve clicked around their news sites — ABC, CBS, etc. — and look at the comments, I see that it isn’t selling. Everyone sees Jimmy Carter 2.0 headed to Vegas for a fund-raiser while his ambassador’s body is being flown home, after having been dragged through the streets of Libya by a violent mob. The president is a failure in every way imaginable, and every day more voters see that.

By reading the comments of the lefties on these threads, and by observing the left as a whole, it is apparent to me that there exist totally irreconcilable differences between them and conservatives, or at least this conservative.

Personally, I not only strongly disagree with their beliefs and actions, but I find myself truly loathing them for their lies, their deceit, their disordered thinking, their psychosocial pathology, their envy, their thieving and their need for chaos and destruction.

If I were married to them, I would be seeking an amicable divorce.

Commie Media is in pain, hoping that this story can be page 6′ d before too much damage is done to their leader.

But if it were Scooter Libby, well then……..Stop the presses.

The MSM make me sick. Their instinctive covering of Obama/criticism of Romney in the wake of the deaths of a US Ambassador, two Marines and a FSO is utterly loathsome.

They don’t deserve to be called journalists any more- they are propagandists, nothing else.

So the Middle East is on fire, he refuses to sit with our strongest ally in the region (Israel), the press gives him a free pass on a disasterous day (that really has not ended yet), and he jets off for campaign cash to a city he implored other Americans not to visit just a few years ago -which nearly wrecked their economy. Nice going, O! I’d love to be president and be this disasterous all the while towing a legion of fat unemployed and happy folks receiving tax dollars for 3 or more years and a groveling press always there to watch my back. Where do I sign up for the gig?

What “Libya” statement did Romney make? I thought the comments that the media keeps referring to was his comment about the US Embassy response in Cairo.

Wasn’t it the our Hypocrite in Chief who told American citizens we ought not to be going to Vegas when the circumstances aren’t right? He has time for Vegas, but not Netanyahu; it’s okay to go to Vegas while our embassies are under siege; and he runs off to Vegas after throwing fuel on the fire by referring to Egypt as “not an ally.” This guy is an amateur, but the narcissist can’t see the horrible taste he’s leaving in the mouths of Americans…I’ve heard some say that it tastes very similar to bad peanuts.

So he just HAD to go to a fundraiser in the city he told everyone not to go to? Was he expecting no audience at all?

The White House doesn’t have intel briefings to “skip”; Obama gets a daily intel summary to which he responds with written questions and comments. Bush was the one who had in-person briefings because he didn’t want to do all the reading, and look how well that turned out.

Allah, when you mix in blatant lies like that into a generally accurate post it makes the whole thing seem dubious.

Chris Matthews: The tragedy in Benghazi that cost Ambassador Stevens his life has been overshadowed by the desperate reach by Mitt Romney

Since overshadowed by the desperate overreaching of Chris “Tingle” Rat-thews.

PS: Seeing this incident cost Baruch ha-Meshiach his political career would be the start, at least, of a better outcome.
