Audio: Press caught on open mic coordinating Egypt/Libya questions for Romney?

posted at 3:21 pm on September 12, 2012 by Allahpundit

I don’t think it’s the collusion that’s troubling so much as their priorities in what they were colluding on. Hard to make firm judgments on a 100-second piece of audio that cuts in and out and is sporadically unintelligible, but part of it is clear enough. From the Right Scoop’s transcript:

CBS REPORTER: Yeah that’s the question. I would just say do you regret your question.

UNIDENTIFIED REPORTER: Your question? Your statement?

CBS REPORTER: I mean your statement. Not even the tone, because then he can go off on…

UNIDENTIFIED REPORTER: And then if he does, if we can just follow up and say ‘but this morning your answer is continuing to sound…’ – *becomes unintelligble*

CBS REPORTER: You can’t say that..

**Later**

CBS REPORTER: I’m just trying to make sure that we’re just talking about, no matter who he calls on we’re covered on the one question.

UNIDENTIFIED REPORTER: Do you stand by your statement or regret your statement?

Someone sent Jake Tapper the link to the audio and asked him if this is business as usual. His reply:

But then he added:

In other words, knowing that they’ll have a select few opportunities to press Romney this morning, the press might have huddled to make sure that different angles of the story would be covered in the Q&A — one person asks him how he’d alter current U.S. policy on Egypt and Libya, one person asks him how to balance free-speech principles with concerns about provocations, etc etc. Instead he got five sub-moronic questions about the tone and timing of his statement last night, which was issued before anyone even knew that Chris Stevens had been killed in Libya. This latest iteration of the media’s “WHAT ABOUT YOUR GAFFES?” idiocy towards Romney is transparently a bit of concern-trolling designed to change the subject from Obama dropping the ball on security for the consulate in Libya — and that’s precisely what they seem to be coordinating on in the audio clip. They’re huddling to make sure that someone asks him the concern-troll question about the optics of his statement, because evidently that’s the one topic America needed him to address this morning, you see. It’s dishonest on its own terms, in fact: Even if, for whatever bizarre reason, your chief concern this morning was whether someone “jumped the gun” in saying something impolitic, the story should have been why the Cairo embassy’s craven statement yesterday jumped the gun on the White House’s reaction. But this is what you get when most of your national media is openly playing for one team.

Click the image below to listen. Exit quotation via conventional-wisdom-setter Mark Halperin, helpfully nudging the media on what its news narrative should be this morning: “[Romney's] doubling down on criticism of the President for the statement coming out of Cairo is likely to be seen as one of the most craven and ill-advised tactical moves in this entire campaign.”

What a surprise to see Sarah Palin worshipers like idesign and AmJean try to make the discussion about Palin and bash those who support our stellar Romney/Ryan ticket. You Sarah Palin worshipers are sick the way you campaign for Obama.

It’s disgusting the way Sarah Palin worshiper idesign bashes excellent commenters like oldroy. Palin sure attracts some pretty low-class people like idesign as groupies… I think she deserves better.

G&P – what the polls show was a Obama bounce for Clinton – the dem’s love Clinton – especially women. But Obama’s speech was nothing. The bounce is already dissapating, according to several polls, a trend I would say. Those maintaining any type of bounce are still trying to find ways to replicate the 2008 election based on their perceived demographic shift – which is why we are getting so many crazy polls. They don’t know – put in the 2010 demos and see what you find – you find Mitt over 270 and Obama isn’t. Now, will it be 2010? I think that is overly optimistic for the GOP. Certainly US ambassadors getting killed doesn’t help Obama, especially as he jets off for another fundraiser.

So like always, the conventions mean very little, and RYan helped Romney with the fiscal conservatives a tiny bit. Trends show that Obama’s summer spend-a-thon didn’t move the needle. Can Romney spend enough in the fall to move the needle further his way. Ecellent question.

It would appear that NC is gone for Obama and prob Mich for Romney. That is a net Romney move.

Everything is moving in the “right” direction.

idesign on September 12, 2012 at 5:59 P

No he’s right. How many days until the election? If they want to criticize Romney, then people should be man or woman enough to admit they are either Obama supporters or losers. There is nothing else at this point in time, like it or not. There are only two viable candidates, like it or not. If someone is supporting Johson or pining for Paul, just say so. But if all they’re doing is stroking their ego as true Conservatives by criticizing Romney they are supporting Obama, there is no other choice.

Well said. Voters are wising up to the media’s game. We saw what they did to our candidates in 2008, and they are trying to do it again, but at least this time our guys (unlike our 2008 VP candidate) aren’t going to play right into their hands with display of incompetence after display of incompetence. Of course the media bias played a huge role in the 2008 election outcome, but the ineptness of a certain VP candidate who shall remain nameless and who wasn’t ready for primetime didn’t help either. I don’t even want to get into a discussion about the past… it’s over and done with. Just want to express appreciation for the ticket we have today.

Of course, you are right. Unfortunately, there are some Palin worshipers like idesign who believe that if Palin can’t be president, then no Republican should be. It’s sick and it is all about a strange fixation with the former governor, rather than a concern for the country. That is why the Palin worshipers (not all Palin supporters, mind you, as most of us agree with Palin on many issues) and the self-obsessed, so-called “true conservatives” who care more about being able to scream “told you so!” than do what’s best for the country are not regarded so highly here and elsewhere.

Anyone who does not vote Romney/Ryan is simply supporting Barack Obama’s reelection. At this point, it’s pretty much that simple.

The Stupid Party had better learn that they MUST take on Obama AND the MSM simultaneously. Keep illustrating their duplicity. Find out who they socialize with among the political hacks of the Dems. Point them out and then use it to question both their objectivity and integrity. Embarrass them. Let the nation see how thin skinned the members of the MSM are. Egg them on to throw temper tantrums. Consider the MSM as surrogates for Obama and treat them as one and the same.

Yea, the Mittwits were conveniently blind when the “lamestream” media attacked Palin., so it’s not surprising that they would attck you for using the word “lamestream” just because Palin coined it.

idesign on September 12, 2012 at 5:50 PM

Can’t keep your moby tool in your pants for even one hour idesign? If you are trying to come off as something, try to come off as one thing only. It ruins your schtick when you turn a thread into something about Palin and then bash a guy for turning the same thread into soemthing about Palin.

Don’t want to give you a grade but I’d bet DD would put you somewhere into failing category, unless you are in Chicago.

Not only that, but they blame others for doing it and then call anyone who isn’t slobbing Romney’s knob an Obama supporter.

If you criticize Obama you are craven and ill-advised.

According to Time Magazine and Mark Halperin.

I swear to God, this clown has to be a Moby working for Obama. Can’t be anything else.

victor82 on September 12, 2012 at 9:24 PM

The media is controlled, unbeknown to them, by the evil spirits they sell themselves to; they are seditious, adversarial and must be made to account for their undermining of the republic. How else could truth be so distorted and so many people believe the lies unless it were spiritually influenced. I know that goes against current humanistic “rationale” but think it through.

wepeople on September 12, 2012 at 9:43 PM

Just read Tapper’s tweets.
So Romney only took a few question Jake ? So thats your rebuttal for a “no media conspiracy” (much less any bias)??

ONLY PROBLEM WITH THAT THEORY JAKE, is that ALL OF THOSE “FEW” QUESTIONS were about what these reporters colluded on ?

AND you want the good citizens to think THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME THEY’VE EVER DONE THIS??

Horse Hockey Jake.

FlaMurph on September 12, 2012 at 11:15 PM

Tapper is still part of the establishment media, but he’s been showing a fair amount of integrity the last few months. He did contract that Obama took no questions, knowing that makes Romney’s “few” questions look better.

I’d not be too harsh on Jake. At least he answers tweets from folks on the Right with honesty.

Freelancer on September 13, 2012 at 12:48 AM

The media can play these games all day with Romney/Ryan. These two guys are smart enough not to be tripped up by misleading and coordinated questions from a wing of DNC that just happen to have press credentials.

In the case of Obama, Biden and Debbie Waterbag-Schlitz, it’s much tougher to keep your answers straight when the original answer was a lie or a real stretch of the truth. Eventually, even the most clueless in the country will realize this. It might not change their vote but they will be far less motivated to leave the couch on Nov. 6.
