Video: MK & Kelly Live-ish

posted at 6:41 pm on September 11, 2012 by Mary Katharine Ham

Fine, yes, that means I’m Regis for the day. With any luck, this will go smoothly and we’ll be up and running shortly after 6 p.m. in this spot, in embedded video. Bear with us if we have some technological difficulties, and I’ll update as soon as possible. Tomorrow we’ll plan to go live for real.

E-mail us at mkandkelly@gmail.com if you have comments or questions. We have our friend Caleb Bonham checking e-mail and comments here during the show, so we interact.

It should be there now. We didn’t quite make it live today because of tech issues but we’re going to shoot to be live tomorrow at 6 p.m. The vid’s up there!

Why not call it the obvious? Hot Air Live

aunursa on September 11, 2012 at 6:48 PM

Please please MKH start an alternative to the view. We have so many gorgeous women with brains. You prove that every day.

The “Hot Air” web moniker is owned by Salem Communications, an independent video project would have to jump through corporate legal nonsense in hopes of getting permission to use it.

Good deal. Thumbs Up.

MKKM………. All the news that fit to drool over…. And that aint no conspiracy theory… ;p

SWalker on September 11, 2012 at 7:04 PM

Alpha.

Strictly — though this is anachronistic and dead — A beta is believed to have no known bugs. Since I’m pretty sure this is one of those “look — just plug it in and pray” dealios, it’s definitely alpha-style. :)

Again, anything linked to HA would need legal permission from Salem. “Vent” would likely be considered a part of the HA package MM sold to Salem, even without the official HA logo.

whatcat on September 11, 2012 at 7:08 PM

Ha, “Alpha” sounds too congratulatory or something.

You and my husband with the lamp hate.

Mary Katharine Ham on September 11, 2012 at 7:13 PM

This, Mary Katharine, must become a regular feature here. You and Kelly have great chemistry, not that I’m suggesting anything, and not that there’s anything wrong with that. ;-) The two of you give us hope and laughter, much needed commodities for the days to come.

On a serious note,it would probably run into legal problems with the Television series of the sames mane…

MK: Maybe you could include AP in the show and call it, Two Alphas and Beta…Heh.

We can chip in for a chroma key and green screen the lamp out.

:) Not sure it’s our fault.

But the only constructive criticism I’ve got is the lighting. You seem to be lit too cold. There seems to be a little flare that might hint at maybe a halogen above you, and the shadows when you are moving your hands and everything says you have more going on, but — Kelly’s lighting is balanced and yours is a little blue.

It’s probably more noticeable because hers is like it is. Throw her under a fluorescent, or get a quartz garage-flood on your back wall. :)

I really like that screen layout.

d1carter on September 11, 2012 at 7:17 PM

HA! AP in a paper bag. I’d pay.

Have you given that name the Spaghetti test?

SWalker on September 11, 2012 at 7:30 PM

But seriously – both use poster board (cheap, but works) as background for head and shoulders shots. Kelly has the better framing/camera level placement, a plain background/posterboard would be less distracting. Be careful with talking too much with the hands while facing the cam, due how perspective affects the size of objects closer to the cam. Otherwise, looks good.

*meant back wall, back behind the camera.

I know all this because of the hundreds of films I’ve never directed, by the way — so — you know.

AZfederalist on September 11, 2012 at 8:12 PM

Hey, every married man, even one married to MKH, needs the threat of that lamp. Whenever my wife tries to drag me into a decorating discussion I just bring up how much I love that lamp and how great I think it would look in our front window…you know…where it could be seen from the street by everyone passing by our house. End of discussion and back to my beer and movie. Every man needs that lamp.

Oldnuke on September 11, 2012 at 8:46 PM

I say call it “Brains.” For obvious reasons. :)

Bob's Kid on September 11, 2012 at 8:48 PM

MKH, Once you figure out ustream, I’d hope you have a show wth a chat room like Ed Morrissey does. I can assure you you and Kelly will get a huge audience for the live broadcast. Maybe Ed should worry that you will take some listeners away from him. :)

simkeith on September 11, 2012 at 8:54 PM

How’s this for a title?

‘Ham & Legs’

Just a thought.

Jack Deth on September 11, 2012 at 9:09 PM

I like the MKH lamp, actually. Has a homesy feel and brings back some nice memories of growing up in the days when lamps really looked like lamps. A coupla pieces of steel with a CFL bulb attached is boring.

BTW, I like that y’all aren’t wearing those gee-awful, clunky Space Ranger Communication Headsets. Much more natural.

*snap*

“hur did” — with multiple puns on “I got my hur did,” and “heard it,” and also “her did” — sort of a feminist splash.

Scrapings

On the Day, with MK & Kelly

“The Program” — you can pretend it has some deep philosophical significance, but never explain what “the program” actually is, thereby biding time until a viewer makes something up that’s cool, and then you can appropriate it.

OK, OK, I know it’s over.

Squelter. — No idea what it means, but it might be easy to trademark.
