Senior administration official: The Cairo embassy’s statement does not reflect the view of the U.S. government; Update: Romney calls embassy statement “disgraceful”

posted at 10:34 pm on September 11, 2012 by Allahpundit

I thought the White House might decide to keep quiet on this and hope that the media doesn’t press too hard tomorrow. And I think they would have, if not for the fact that Romney’s surely ready to go nuclear on them for it and force the issue. Remember, thanks to a few openings created by Mitt (most notably forgetting to thank the troops in his convention speech), Obama’s angling to frame himself as President Foreign Policy for the stretch run to election day. How would that play if he’s suddenly being hammered tomorrow for Apology Tour 2012?

So here’s the walkback. You know who’s going to have a fun day on Wednesday? Jay Carney.

The White House is disavowing a statement from their own Cairo embassy that apologized for anti-Muslim activity in the United States.

“The statement by Embassy Cairo was not cleared by Washington and does not reflect the views of the United States government,” a senior administration official told POLITICO…

“Some have sought to justify this vicious behavior as a response to inflammatory material posted on the Internet. The United States deplores any intentional effort to denigrate the religious beliefs of others. Our commitment to religious tolerance goes back to the very beginning of our nation. But let me be clear: There is never any justification for violent acts of this kind,” Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said in a Tuesday statement.

Here’s the last tweet from Cairo embassy account, posted three hours ago as I write this:

https://twitter.com/USEmbassyCairo/status/245665697408102400

Really looking forward to hearing Carney explain which part of the embassy’s earlier statement failed to represent the views of the U.S. government. I want to hear it in his own words; hopefully the press corps will make him elaborate. If the White House rejects the idea that criticizing religion constitutes an “abuse” of free speech, then good for them. But let’s get it on the record, because we all know there’ll be more incidents of embassies stormed and people shot over “insults” to Islam — quite possibly in Afghanistan — and the tune’s likely to change later as political circumstances demand.

Exit quotation from the Muslim Brotherhood’s Twitter account:

Update: Like I was saying, Obama had no choice but to retreat. Here comes Mitt:

I’m outraged by the attacks on American diplomatic missions in Libya and Egypt and by the death of an American consulate worker in Benghazi. It’s disgraceful that the Obama Administration’s first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks.

Not gonna happen. The dems/leftists will give them “cover” to faux rage over supposed indiscretions committed against islam (pics of the child molester) while not accepting responsibility for their actions(destruction of others property, killings, etc.). Kinda fits in perfectly with dems outlook on life…

The only way that this happens is if the Koran and its accompanying suras are rewritten by the faith’s most respected scholars, mullahs, etc., or forgotten entirely. Neither is likely to happen for centuries to come.

I fear that the only remedy is the utter military defeat of their warriors and governments, and the idealogical defeat of their would-be caliphs, mullahs, ayatollahs and the masses upon masses of brainwashed followers, who are convinced (by their bastardized holy book and its ministers) that their death in battle leads them to paradise and that anyone not enamored of their belief system is subhuman.

It needs to always be remembered that Islam is not only a religion, but a political and governmental system as well. It is Godwinism at its finest to say this, but it pure Islam IS Hitleresque in various ways, only more ingrained and long-lasting.

In what can only be described as a pitiful attempt to distract Americans from the obvious truth which is being written, and rewritten in American blood multiple times per week, General Allen excused the actions of Afghanistan’s “True Soldiers of Allah”. He very publicly declared that the “stresses” endured by ANA and ANP troops who participated in the month long Ramadan fast, have contributed to the very existence of “insider” attacks. Apparently, for the General, this is an acceptable explanation for “vetted” Afghan’s to turn the weapons Americans have given them, against their benefactors.

It wasn’t long ago we heard of another Officer who felt United States Marines were nothing more than cannon fodder for his unique understanding of “the greater good”, Lieutenant Colonel Homiak. Let me be clear General; it is not acceptable!! No killing of American War Fighters is EVER “acceptable”! While it may be that during the normal conduct of battle deaths will occur, it is never “acceptable” and no individual entrusted with the level of authority you have been given should ever dare to suggest to America’s Fathers and Mothers, that their Son’s or Daughter’s deaths is acceptable – regardless of the words you use to arrive at that opinion!

This almost apologetic comment, made by this American General who has been very quick to condemn American troops for things like the inadvertent burning of copies of the Quran can only be described as a total lack of regard for the Marines and Soldiers who have been sacrificed at the hands of this 7th century gaggle of thugs and their surrogates in Washington!

What makes his disgraceful commentary that much more unpalatable is his follow up in the Washington Post. Rather than damning these attacks for what they are, he continues to excuse these simple acts of Islamic mandated holy murder while calling for more US bloodletting for the unwarranted hope that Afghanistan will somehow miraculously blossom into a beacon of peace, tranquility and freedom for the ever “oppressed and noble” Afghan!

Can you say Stupid?

This continual betrayal of American trust and confidence given our “leaders”, is not only despicable, it is an ugly, indelible scrawl across the thousands of American Servicemen’s grave stones declaring in no uncertain terms; you were just a convenient tool on the way to an anti-American/pro-Afghan fantasy!

D+5 actually, unless I suddenly forgot how to count right. (At late as it is, I’m not ruling that out.

If I remember correctly, in 2008 Florida’s turnout was D+3. If that’s right, than Survey USA is predicting that Obama will get a better turnout than 2008.

Also, they’re slightly undersampling independents in order to ramp up the democratic skew of the poll without making it too obvious. When democrats make up 41% of a poll, its hard for them not to at least appear competitively, even if Republicans aren’t all that far behind.

We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others

…there is no “universal right of free speech”, it is a US right guaranteed by OUR constitution. Western nations generally have a limited right of free speech (can speak freely if it is not offensive, for instance)…others put people in jail if they exercise critical or “wrong” speech. Our US diplomats in foreign lands should realize that our rights are not enjoyed by everyone and be schooled in dealing with this difference!

2nd Thessalonians 2:2-12

2 Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers and sisters, not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by the teaching allegedly from us—whether by a prophecy or by word of mouth or by letter—asserting that the day of the Lord has already come. 3 Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction. 4 He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God.

5 Don’t you remember that when I was with you I used to tell you these things? 6 And now you know what is holding him back, so that he may be revealed at the proper time. 7 For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way. 8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendor of his coming. 9 The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan works. He will use all sorts of displays of power through signs and wondersw that serve the lie, 10 and all the ways that wickedness deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. 11 For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie 12 and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.

quick political analysis. the movie that caused the riots is, although true, very insulting. it was made by an israeli(not american) although made in america. and that will feed into negative stereotypes.

for republicans, embracing the free speech rights of non american citizens at the expense of their own diplomats and soldiers is a hard pill to swallow.

so i doubt there will be much political gain from this story for repubs apart from the negativity perception it gives of the US position in the ME.

Yup, an invasion and occupation of Libya and/or Egypt is clearly what we should do.

libfreeordie on September 12, 2012 at 7:01 AM

And I think they would have, if not for the fact that Romney’s surely ready to go nuclear on them for it and force the issue. Remember, thanks to a few openings created by Mitt (most notably forgetting to thank the troops in his convention speech),

Who says he forgot? I just think that since he spent the day before at the American Legion here in Indiana, Romney felt it was best to talk about other issues at the convention. It might have been a mistake, but I do not think he forgot.

As for this getting play? This morning I turned on the local news when I was getting ready for work and even they had a spot on this…there was the apology for free speech…and then the crazy Muslim screaming We will kill anyone who says anything bad about Mohammed and adding a little extra condemnation of Americans…and then there was Romney giving them hell about it. So I think it will get some play. They also mentioned Hillary Clinton’s attempt to walk it back..they said nothing about his Royal Majesty Obama.

I heard Romney and I thought he sounded pretty pissed off about this…what do you want exactly? Frothing at the mouth? Eye balls popping out of his head…or should he go online post anonymously and use all CAPS! By Golly, that would show them.

Terrye on September 12, 2012 at 7:04 AM

Just saw news reports that the AQ mobs in Libya murdered the U.S. ambassador and two other Americans there.

Good to see how wonderfully well Barry’s imperial military intervention in Libya is paying off. Barry told us we were the problem. If we just changed our policies and showed the Muslim crazies that we’re on their side, they’d stop hating us and trying to kill us.

Smart Power!

AZCoyote on September 12, 2012 at 7:05 AM

Now 5 people dead, 4 in Libya including the US Ambassador per FOX News.

libfreeordie on September 12, 2012 at 7:01 AM

No, but giving real support to the locals who might actually be in favor of democratic reform rather than letting chaos and AlQaida take over would be helpful. I guess Barry figures that if worse comes to worse he can always send in some drones.

That is interesting in of itself considering the way he used to go after Bush for attacking terrorists from the sky. He said all the accomplished was to kill civilians..but that was back when Barry was a pacifist.

kingsjester on September 12, 2012 at 7:08 AM

don’t bet on Carney being ANY tough follow up questions today.

Ohio low information voter will hear 10 second update on the radio while she passes fries to the kids in the back of the van………and won’t even remember the report.

When she drives off her phone will ring and it will be a pollster asking her about Obama and she’ll say she isn’t crazy about Obama but doesn’t really know a lot about “that other guy from Utah”.

This story and everything else mean NOTHING to the Obama voter……..except it’s Bushs fault and poor Obama is still trying to clean up his messes.

Abusing free speech on the internet?

Hey Egypt, I got your Mohammed right here, you barbaric, Allahu Nutbars!

Free speech was made precisely to allow us FREE people to tell you just what you’re stone-aged magical, mythical superstitions are. You may have some limp-dicked wonders running the show in the US for now, but your time for that is running out. The only hell is the one that you revel in making and I’m going to laugh my ass off as I watch you spiral down to an even more degraded, sand-eating, camel-raping life than you have now.

Mitt needs to show PASSION every single time something like this happens.

He and his body language (in interviews) betray a lack of confidence and lack of forcefulness. Obama comes across as likeable/approachable. Mitt comes across as stiff and cool. The Bear Hug by the pizza guy for example. Like it or not this is the way it comes across in the media.

Don’t tell me the Romney campaign is doing a good job when they are losing in poll after poll to an Empty chair. He should be leading the DOTUS by 10 points. His ads are NOT FORCEFUL enough.

Duh…….did anyone here live through the 1976 Ford campaign?

Dole 1988?

McCain 2008?

Step it up Mitt!!!

PappyD61 on September 12, 2012 at 7:16 AM

Obama hates this country. That’s why his sympathies lie with anyone and anything that is against us. Watching 2016 puts it all into perfect perspective.

No. I imagine the “Commander in Chief” is considering sending in Seal Team 6 to fight the spreading GWOT…or, based on his personal role in killing OBL, maybe Bambi will go over there and fight the jihadis himself.

This should have been dealt with in 2009 when Bambi just watched the Green Revolution get silenced in Iran. Now there’s some foreign policy to hang your hat on.

Yes, the Dems sample was a +5. It was 2 AM. FL race is tight. That poll essentially fall within MOE.

Basing voter party breakdown on 2010 rather than 2008 may be over-estimating the GOP chance in 2012. The 2010 election was a large GOP victory, but that was a mid-term election. 2012 is a presidential year, so number of voters who will vote will be higher. (number of votes in 2008 > 2010 about 28 to 29%). GOP representation was increased, as were Independents who voted for GOP candidates. But almost 40% of blacks who voted in 2008 did not come out in 2010, as was 30% of Hispanic.

Dissecting and predicting the number will be difficult. It will be a close election. The only way to go forth is to work in every way one can to help with the campaign, and turn out the votes from our side in November.

International diplomacy is serious stuff. The sanctity of embassies to conduct diplomacy is paramount. Host countries MUST provide protections for mthese embassies both by word and deed. President Morsi understands this. The tweet from MB was somewhat helpful.
President Obama needs to put this one squarely at Morsi’s feet. Tell him to get ahold of the situation, control his country and provide the safety necessary cot conduct international affairs. That is HIS obligation in order to participate. Lacking such commitment will tell the world that Egypt cannot control it’s population and is not a reliable partner.

Need to contemplate Libya some more before commenting.

I’m telling you straight up that Romney is doing a fantastic job! No, he doesn’t need to shout and wave his arms and froth at the mouth. He is projecting nothing but confidence and it is a well justified confidence. His words are clear and forceful and most of all confidence-inspiring.

Fools like you can believe the cooked up poll numbers all you want. It’s to be expected that you wouldn’t question anything that confirms your bias against Mitt. But intelligent people can see them for what they are. A propaganda tool of the regime’s media lackeys. You’re one of those who thought that Mitt wasn’t going to win the primaries and cheered every time some ABR candidate had their day in the sun only to slide back in to derision and obscurity. Keep being a fool and keep being fooled.

MJBrutus on September 12, 2012 at 7:37 AM

The first thing Muslims would do is murder jews and LGBT people while taking away womens rights and freedom of speech and religion and yet these groups blindly follow Obama over the cliff of self destruction. Can someone explain this to me?

ldbgcoleman on September 12, 2012 at 7:39 AM

Embassies, Secretaries, and other state dept. workers reflect, especially after 3 years, their bosses policies.

If this statement happened six weeks after election, I could see blaming the embassy for their words.

But, by now, the policies have been established the embassies know what direction the current administration wants to move in.

What the embassy stated, is what Obama thinks…just another apology.

right2bright on September 12, 2012 at 7:42 AM

Now that the ambassador has been killed President Toonces has finally been forced come out with a statement. Now the news will have to pay attention too.

Yesterday all the president did was blow off Netenyahu, and put out a statement condemning, not the attacks, but Romney.
