MSNBC contributor: This network was like an OFA meet-up during the convention

posted at 2:01 pm on September 10, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

Don’t get too excited; The Nation’s Jeremy Scahill’s scathing criticism comes as part of an argument yesterday on MSNBC’s Up with Chris Hayes over a lack of critical analysis of Barack Obama’s record from the Left.  Scahill expressed disgust over the “jingoism” in the ongoing “football spik[ing]” over the Osama bin Laden raid during the convention, and MSNBC’s utter lack of critical analysis of it.  The Daily Beast’s Michelle Goldberg claims that it would have been “political malpractice” to have left that topic out of the convention, but she misses the point of Scahill’s complaint.  It’s directed at the media, not the convention, although he does have some pointed words for the revisionism on the Iraq War from John Kerry and Joe Biden:

But here’s the real question: did Scahill really expect something other than an OFA meetup from MSNBC during the convention — or for that matter, at any other time?  Does he watch MSNBC?

I think it’s just more cautious ship-jumping. Wait a few weeks, and don’t get in the way.

RebeccaH on September 10, 2012 at 2:05 PM

That’s just it. I don’ think even people like Sahill are watching MSNBC. I think they rely completely on the internet and twitter these days for their commentary and news fix…and, of course, the emails and tweets directly from the administration.

thatsafactjack on September 10, 2012 at 2:05 PM

Obviously he’s unaware MSNBC “has a vested interest in the success of this administration”.

GarandFan on September 10, 2012 at 2:06 PM

Not only did Kerry and Biden vote for the Iraq war, they voted for the continued funding.

MoreLiberty on September 10, 2012 at 2:06 PM

Does he watch MSNBC?

Does anyone?

Doughboy on September 10, 2012 at 2:09 PM

What’s OFA. Or are we supposed to know.
You know what Obama was doing today? Interviews with “hiphop” radio stations in Florida. Now there’s a confident man. Wonder what people would be crying if Romney was talking with Mormon groups. I’d think they’d say his internals don’t look so good.

Marcus on September 10, 2012 at 2:10 PM

Ummm…. didn’t he read the MSLSD “must kiss the Oblamer’s @** at all times policy” ?

That’s worse offense than trash-talking Uncle Joe Stalin on May Day at MSLSD.

Isn’t MSNBC like that every day?

A PMSDNC lib disheartened with coverage? Good, maybe something to depress their turnout.

AZfederalist on September 10, 2012 at 2:15 PM

Some media types just won’t go as low as required to keep their liberal bona fides (as necessitated by the current calculus) intact.

Kudos.

A Quaker I knew with the Friend’s Service Coalition told me that the Dems should be excused for voting for wars as you have to support them. After all, you can’t be accused of being “UNPATRIOTIC”.

I often point out how I would avoid war if I were a conservative politician. This country has such an effective fifth column.

A reactionary I know told me that if he were a Republican president and some enemy was threatening an invasion, he would seriously consider giving them the famous map showing where the stimulus funds were spent and say they could land their troops there.

The war would then be truly bipartisan.

I think he should add “until the war is ‘UNPOPULAR’”.

IlikedAUH2O on September 10, 2012 at 2:20 PM

Wonder how many of their 100 viewers got the vapors from that. Guess he won’t be on again.

He was all over the place. He starts with bin Laden, then jumps to Iraq war, then at the end he jumps to killing US citizens with drones . . . He’s a far lefty who thinks MSNBC should be going after Obama FOR killing terrorists and after Democrats for supporting the war. He’s not being conservative, he’s saying the network isn’t criticizing the Dems with EVEN FARTHER LEFT talking points.

He needs to lose the salt-and-pepper beard. For a moment I feared I was looking at Paul Jack Krugman.

Will there come a day when the term, “Obamania,” becomes an actual, psychiatric disorder, defined as “the fanatical and irrational desire, manifested by members of the press/media, to carry buckets of water for a Communist politician.”?

Hahaha. They cut away before the other panelists gave him the ‘pod people’ point and shriek. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QWr80meNvSQ

OFA??? Don’t know what it means. Either stop making up such acronyms that most people don’t recognize, or jes’ STFUA.

MSNBC really ought to be registered with the Federal Election Commission. And its advertisers should report money spent on commercials as an in-kind contribution to the Democratic Party, since they are keeping MSNBC on the air.
