Open thread: Sunday morning talking heads

posted at 8:01 am on September 9, 2012 by Allahpundit

Full-court press from the Republican ticket this morning, with Romney on “Meet the Press” for his first non-Fox Sunday chat of the campaign and Ryan hitting both ABC and CBS, presumably to answer Bill Clinton’s speech at length. I wonder if that’s all been planned for weeks or if the mounting evidence of a bounce for O forced Team Mitt to play defense more aggressively than they anticipated.

If you’re not up for that, tune into “Fox News Sunday” for a deep-dive on the glories of Obamanomics with Glenn Hubbard and Austan Goolsbee. The line-up via WaPo:

NBC’s Meet the Press: Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney; San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro; Peggy Noonan, Wall Street Journal; E.J. Dionne, Brookings Institution and Washington Post; former Secretary of Education Bill Bennett; Chuck Todd, NBC

CBS’ Face the Nation: Republican vice presidential nominee Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI); White House senior adviser David Plouffe; David Sanger, New York Times; John Dickerson, CBS; Michael Gerson, Washington Post; Dee Dee Myers, Vanity Fair

ABC’s This Week: Republican vice presidential nominee Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI); Newark Mayor Cory Booker; Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY); George Will, ABC; Cokie Roberts, ABC; Paul Krugman, New York Times

Fox News Sunday: Glenn Hubbard, senior economic adviser for the Romney campaign; former Chairman of the White House Council of Economic Advisers, Austan Goolsbee; Saratoga Springs, UT Mayor Mia Love

CNN’s State of the Union with Candy Crowley: Gov. Jerry Brown (D-CA); Newt Gingrich; Austin Ligon, co-founder of CarMax; former Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez; Peter Baker, New York Times; A.B Stoddard, The Hill

FYI – Get ready for some push polling coming out today from PPP, and lots of MSM stories about the “Obama comeback” this week. It’s garbage designed to create false momentum for Obama and demoralize the GOP. Don’t believe it. This election is still a dead heat and Romney is actually ahead in some key states that Obama won in 2008.

libfreeordie on September 9, 2012 at 8:29 AM

Liberal trolls are already out pushing a truncated Romney quote that appears to compliment Bill Clinton. Wait for the full interview and transcript. Romney strategy is to separate Clinton from Obama in voters’ minds, show how Clinton was successful on economy and working with Republicans while Obama has failed at both.

More excerpts from Woodward book in WaPo today, extremely unflattering to Obama, though some of it is going to be fodder for Boehner’s detractors on our side. No question that Boehner blinked on debt ceiling to push off next action until after this election, but it also makes very clear that getting past the election was Obama’s only goal and it took Harry Reid’s aide giving Obama a blistering lecture to get him to understand the position he had put Congressional leaders in.

God help us if this clown gets reelected and we face a real foreign crisis. He is clueless and full of himself.

Carney: Too Much Obsession With Employment Numbers

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney today suggested that there was too much focus on the unemployment rate, wisecracking that average people aren’t sitting at home staring at the Labor Department website to see the latest employment numbers. Carney argued that they have other things to worry about in addition to jobs. Source

Reports of huge turnouts for R/R rallies and especially for phone banks and door knocking. Ground game goes apace. Money is rolling in, Obama campaign just got a $10 million line of credit from Duke Energy and their convention went $15 million in the hole.

CNN’s State of the Union with Candy Crowley: Gov. Jerry Brown (D-CA);

As a native Californian, I can’t understand how Jerry Brown can even show his face on national TV. Yet this moron has the nadds to go on TV, and have something relevant to say?

This much is clear: If a lot of the stupid people show up to vote this year, Obama will win.

rockmom on September 9, 2012 at 8:45 AM

I read the excerpt you mentioned earlier. The part that jumped out at me the most?

It was highly unusual for someone to pass the ball so completely to a staffer. The 44-year-old Krone outlined the plan, including a secret Republican pledge to count $1 trillion in savings from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan toward deficit reduction. That was surprising. Earlier, Boehner had not been willing to accept this accounting gimmick.

“I don’t trust these guys,” the president said dismissively.

Krone either would not or could not conceal his anger.

“Wait a second,” Obama said, interrupting someone else who was about to speak. “I can tell David has something else to say.”

“Mr. President, I am sorry — with all due respect — that we are in this situation that we’re in, but we got handed this football on Friday night. And I didn’t create this situation. The first thing that baffles me is, from my private-sector experience, the first rule that I’ve always been taught is to have a Plan B. And it is really disheartening that you, that this White House did not have a Plan B.” Source

Actually, people who have jobs or are on government assistance probably don’t think Obama is doing too badly. The unemployment rate for college graduates in the US is below 6%. It’s a skewed depression that many people are feeling but many are not.

The government was down to its last $5 billion when the SHTF last year. People did not know that. It was much closer to crashing than anyone knew. Geithner was telling Obama to get the deal done and not worry about when it would come up again. Obama was singularly focused on not dealing with it again before the election.

F & F just said that Romney said in the MTP Interview that he was going to place “parts of Obamacare” and he liked others.

Oh, Lord help us.

I watched Paul Ryan on ABC…that George is a real piece of work…I think Ryan was getting a bit pissed. I know I was.

I was moving back and forth, but I thought Ryan did well. In particular, George always likes to throw the primary-debate question about voting for a 10-1 spending cuts to tax cuts deal. Ryan said show me the deal because all you’re showing is ratios.

In the background, I hear Cokie saying that Dems will cobble together a coalition and that the GOP has made a colossal misjudgment.

Oh, well, I guess we’ll head to freeload nation.

On This Week, who do you believe? Booker, Krugman, and Cokie Roberts versus George Will and Rand Paul.
