President Obama: “You’ll love me even more”

posted at 6:31 pm on September 8, 2012 by Erika Johnsen

But… but… I didn’t think that was even possible! [Swoons, faints.] Speaking from the campaign trail in Iowa on Friday night, via the Weekly Standard:

AUDIENCE MEMBER:  “We love you, Obama!”

THE PRESIDENT:  “I love you back.  But let me tell you the fourth thing — you’ll love me even more. Fourth, my plan would reduce our deficit without sticking it to the middle class.  Independent analysis has shown that my plan would cut deficits by $4 trillion.  And I’ve already worked with the Republicans in Congress to cut a trillion dollars’ worth of spending, because those of us who care about what government can do to help people give them a ladder up…”

Of course, taken in the full context, it was a perfectly appropriate and humorous response to the rowdy audience member who simply couldn’t manage to keep his enthusiasm bottled up inside; but as a one-liner, it’s just so… fitting. Given this president’s almost extraordinary level of amour-propre, it is wholly unshocking to me that that’s his natural quick-draw reaction to the situation. Telling, eh?

And to think some people here were capable of having a honest debate without throwing in childish insults. Then again what was I thinking? Most far right conservatives resort to insults when their ideology has been debunked.

HotAirLib on September 8, 2012 at 7:56 PM

Debunked? Really? Is that what you think you’re doing. The fact of the matter is that you’re not even a mediocre defendant of the socialism you espouse. On one site I used to post, there was a bright articulate commie whose main theme was that no corporate CEO should make more than $100K/year. He was wrong but he could challenge others with the way he presented his arguments. You just post the same stupidity over and over again.

Do yourself a favor. Pick up a single book on economics. Read it. Get a tutor if you must to understand it, and then read your own comments here. The realization of how benighted and ignorant you appear to educated people will be punishment enough.

I do not believe it is a rip off scheme. There is nothing wrong making a honest living by selling things to people who need them. What I was trying to convey was that the so called job creators only create jobs because of demand. Not because we’ve asked them to pay nothing.

Correct! However the are forced into creating those jobs. They don’t start businesses to create jobs. They start businesses to make money off the poor and middle income American.

HotAirLib on September 8, 2012 at 7:50 PM

Convoluted logic or just plain stupid? Kind of hard to tell here.

Yeah, those people who want to make money are forced into identifying a market need and then starting a business to fill that market need in order to make money. In the process of doing so, they need to hire people, because that one person, desiring to become rich, can’t make enough of an item, or perform enough of a service all by himself to do so. Then, people in society, either poor, middle class, or rich decide whether or not they want what the person is selling. If so, profit!, if not, bankruptcy & try again.

How did you think the world worked? This should be simple, common sense. Where in the world were you mal-educated that would make you think that somehow money should just be allocated to you so that you can live your life in a carefree style? … or just go and get whatever goods you think you should have with no need to work for them? You decry the rich for not paying their “fair share” in one post and then acknowledge that they pay taxes in another post. We can post the fact that the top 1, 5, and 10% pay the bulk of income taxes in the country and a higher percent of the taxes than their income, but it doesn’t seem to penetrate the mineral mass that comprises your skull, so re-posting it is way more work than necessary to have to go dig up those numbers again. You have proven that you are just not educatable.

Do people who think like you post really exist, or do you just do this to see what kind of rise you can get out of people? If you really think this way, the only thing anyone can say is, “Man, you’re messed up”.

Who the hell are you to decide what others “can afford.”

How about equity in taxation instead where every American pays their fair share. We have individuals who pay nothing in taxes who actually get tax refunds. Taxes are there to fund government and the programs society deems important. Why not expect everybody should pay instead of your argument that only the rich should.

HAL as your obviously too comfortable stewing in your koolaid–

From the New York Times:

Falling Tax Would Lift All Yachts
By AGIS SALPUKAS
Published: February 07, 1992

The nation’s luxury-boat builders, many clinging to their businesses after two years of plunging sales, finally got some good news last week.

President Bush, in his budget proposals, asked Congress to repeal the 10 percent luxury tax on yachts priced at more than $100,000 (and also on private planes that cost more than $250,000). The repeal, which Congress is likely to approve, would be retroactive to Feb. 1.
——-
In the last two years, about 100 builders of luxury boats — recreational craft costing more than $100,000 — cut their operations severely and laid off thousands of workers. Some builders filed for protection from creditors under Chapter 11 of the Federal Bankruptcy Code.

Ah but for a while they got to take it to the rich. Awesome eh?
Another evil Bush sucking up to rich….

Poor, poor victimized and unfairly treated troll.

farsighted on September 8, 2012 at 8:18 PM

Hal another nugget

To refresh your memory, Congress in 1990 established a Vehicle Luxury Tax on any car sold in the United States for more than $30,000. The 10 percent tax applied only to the amount paid past $30,000; so a person who bought a $35,000 vehicle would have to pay $500 to the U.S. government on top of already existing taxes.

As many predicted, the tax was a bust. Consumers hated it. Dealers hated it. Manufacturers hated it. Ultimately, the government brought in a nominal amount in tax revenue but lost money in other tax revenue areas such as payroll, duties, and income tax. A 1991 study by AUS Consultants showed that the tax led to a 20 percent drop in sales of international brand luxury cars like BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Finally, in 2002, after much lobbying from AIADA, the federal government fully repealed the law.

And please do explain how “the rich” will be incentivized to keep making such obscene profits as they watch over half their income disappear.

That’s up to them. But…I don’t get your “world view”? If you look at Socialism throughout the world, it doesn’t work. One of the reasons we’re in this economic mess is because We the People have had hundreds of billions that are routinely heisted from us courtesy of the IRS (that great “wealth spreading” organization) handed over to major banks so they can cover their losses in the failed Socialist Eurozone…and they ain’t done yet.

On top of that we’ve had a combination of gambling with at least a trillion based upon the mortgage note market along with the Leftist ideology of everyone has to own a home whether they can afford it or not…that didn’t work out so well, did it now?

I’ll admit-some of this mess is indeed the responsibility of CEOs who should by now be in prison. John Corzine comes to mind. But if you’re saying the system is broken, you’re right…and, again, fraudsters like Obama are part of all this. I’d say, “follow the money”, but, golly gee, nobody can!

So I guess the idea is to destroy Capitalism and therefore Socialism is the only game in town? If so, then I’d say Socialism will work-because it’ll be all that’s left.

What the people deserve is for everyone to play by the same rules. If I am paying close to 30% of my wages to the government there is no reason why Mr. Romney shouldn’t be paying at least the same rate.

Who is it who is arguing that issues are black or white?

Did anybody say that the rich should pay 0% taxes? Didn’t think so. However, making them pay a higher percentage than everybody else makes zero sense as well. Some taxes are necessary to fund government functions. But those functions should be the minimum necessary to secure the borders and keep the peace. We’ve gone way beyond that; it needs to be drastically scaled back.

Like every liberal/socialist hypocrite when it come to tax return filing they will find every trick under the sun to get their tax money back… So believe a f*** like Hotairlib is paying much less than 30% of taxes when he applies for every possible deduction under the sun… To shut of a liberal hypocrite who advocate higher taxes always ask him/her if he/she applies for deductions when they file their tax returns and why do they want their tax money back when they are advocating higher taxes? why they would not let the government keep more of their money, the government would love it if someone does not file for deductions because they can keep more of this individual taxes…

I disagree. The Ryan plan is a pathetic start that takes too long but it is ambitious as far as political realities are concerned. And, this is important, Obama and his merry band of commies aren’t even trying to curb spending. They think we need to go more into debt in the name of propping up the economy.

Happy Nomad on September 8, 2012 at 8:16 PM

We can only deal with the world the way it is. The Ryan plan is not the strong medicine we need, but it’s all we can pass (fingers crossed).

How’s that Paul Ryan thing working out?

Oh yeah, Obama is on track to win a 2nd term and is 4-5 points up in polls.

The pathetic party had a chance and blew it……..what a shock.

Like someone said earlier nothing sticks, people don’t care. But hellllllllo he told Joe the plumber he was effectively a closet Communist and McCain even said “you have nothing to fear from an Obama Presidency”.

America is committing suicide folks, and the world watches to see if we’ll stop in time.

HotAirLib on September 8, 2012 at 8:53 PM

You see, this is where you fail to understand. You see, if Romney is paying a lower percentage of his income in taxes, that means he is paying on capital gains. Now, the investments that purchased the assets that produced those capital gains was taxed at your rate, or higher. The lower rate on capital gains recognizes the risk that went into purchasing capital assets as well as the fact the money invested was already taxed once.

You are paying 30% of your gross income in federal income taxes? Really? That means you are in the 1%. Or you are lying to us.

AZfederalist on September 8, 2012 at 9:20 PM

That is why liblets oppose a flat tax with few or no deductions. Bill J showed the way on that, by actually taking a deduction of $2 for each pair of his used undershorts.

I don’t ‘donate’ my old Jockeys. I throw them out.

Liberals find every excuse possible for themselves and their kind, for they can’t STAND being wrong; they can’t handle it. And if HAL is the best they have to offer, then Gaga is right: They all need to move to another planet. I mean, liberals are already halfway there, if only in their heads.

HotAirLib on September 8, 2012 at 8:53 PM

Why “at least”? Why not the same rate?

Should people who drive a Mercedes pay a higher gas tax rate than someone who drives a Pinto?

Should people who buy lobsters and T-bone steaks pay a higher sales tax rate than people who buy Beefaroni and ramen noodles?

After all, the lobster-chowing Mercedes drivers can obviously afford it, right?
