John Kerry: Ask bin Laden if he’s better off now than he was four years ago

posted at 11:21 am on September 7, 2012 by Erika Johnsen

Speaking during the buildup to the big nothing-burger that was President Obama’s nomination acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention on Thursday night, erstwhile presidential candidate and self-styled foreign-policy guru Sen. John Kerry (D-Massachusetts) had an impassioned response to Republicans’ recent revival of the Reagan Metric.

I don’t really know what to say, except… Oof.

In this campaign, we have a fundamental choice. Will we protect our country and our allies, advance our interests and ideals, do battle where we must and make peace where we can? Or will we entrust our place in the world to someone who just hasn’t learned the lessons of the last decade?

We’ve all learned Mitt Romney doesn’t know much about foreign policy. But he has all these ‘‘neocon advisors’’ who know all the wrong things about foreign policy. He would rely on them – after all, he’s the great outsourcer.

But I say to you: This is not the time to outsource the job of commander in chief. …

…He promised to focus like a laser on al – Qaeda – and he has – our forces have eliminated more of its leadership in the last three years than in all the eight years that came before. And after more than ten years without justice for thousands of Americans murdered on 9/11, after Mitt Romney said it would be ‘‘naive’’ to go into Pakistan to pursue the terrorists, it took President Obama, against the advice of many, to give that order to finally rid this earth of Osama bin Laden. Ask Osama bin Laden if he is better off now than he was four years ago.

Tying together “outsourcing” and foreign-policy advisers? Really? That doesn’t feel like maybe just a little bit of a stretch to you? Because goodness knows that no president ever employs experts in their various fields for the specific purpose of advising them. And I gotta’ say, pointing to a lack of foreign-policy experience on the Romney/Ryan ticket is kind of a bold strategy — lest people look back and recall how much foreign-policy experience Barack Obama had acquired by the time he ran for president. Which was precisely none.

What kind of a jerkwater comment is that, Kerry? That is like saying Attila the Hun isn’t better off four years later!

pilamaye on September 7, 2012 at 11:33 AM

With Kerry, it should be about ‘Jenghis Khaaaaan’.

Dexter_Alarius on September 7, 2012 at 12:25 PM

Bin Laden was better off when Kerry was sending him AK47s. That is another one that went down the memory hole. Those guns were confiscated on some western port and then Kerry took custody of them and sent them to al qaeda in Kosovo ( KLA ). Can’t find it on google so maybe I imagined it.

Buddahpundit on September 7, 2012 at 12:25 PM

That is like saying Attila the Hun Jenjis Kahn isn’t better off four years later!

Sorry, couldn’t resist.

Piss off our enemies for political gain. Nice work John.
Not exactly a sound philosophy if auditioning for SofS.

I am not against knocking off enemies such as OBL. But I am very much against using such activity for political gain.
It besmirches us as a people.

Jabberwock on September 7, 2012 at 12:32 PM

Let’s ask Brian Terry, the border guard killed by the incompetence (and more likely treason) of this administration if he is better off.

Axion on September 7, 2012 at 12:35 PM

UBL may or may not be better off now than he was 4 years ago.
But, I’d put money down that some incarnation of ACORN has registered him, and he votes Dem somewhere in this country in November… probably in multiple districts.

Dexter_Alarius on September 7, 2012 at 12:37 PM

I’m really torn on this one, and just a wee bit confused. UBL is dead sure enough. In his faith, isn’t he resting at the footstep of Allah 72 virgins in hand? So compared to how he was living prior to his death, he is now in bliss. On the other hand did our SEAL’s use SpammoAmmo™? In which case UBL is in heII. Is Kerry saying SEAL’s used SpammoAmmo™ to take UBL out?

Bmore on September 7, 2012 at 12:41 PM

Hey now, come on, the DNC in their “Abortionpalooza, attack the GOP for their war on women” convention spent time lionizing a guy who, in a drunken stupor, left a woman to drown in the car he ran off the road and had a serial lecher, adulterer, and date rapist as a keynote speaker. This is totally consistent with current democrat party values.

AZfederalist on September 7, 2012 at 11:58 AM

Yeah, thats the sad part. Very little of what was said was true, yet they had the audacity to pretend that Romney and Ryan lied (when most of what they said was 100% factual). And they glorified some of most morally corrupt politicians of the last 50 years. I am surprised they could not find room for John Edwards, Blago, Spitzer and Weiner while they were at it.

It was like living in DWS’s bizarro world.

milcus on September 7, 2012 at 12:41 PM

John Kerry sounded like a rich corporate wife to me.

Dark Star on September 7, 2012 at 12:42 PM

Gag, i had to turn this off and couldn’t watch, John Kerry in Romney derangement syndrome, they have it bad in MA, as you probably concluded seeing the pols from MA at the convention, they were really strange right?

In MA, the democrat party has selected three House Speakers in a row, who have gone directly from the State House, to jail on accounta they was corrupt. The corruption here is thick as pea soup.

More people are using food stamps in MA than in any other state, and we think a lot of it is fraud, and Duval Patrick – “doo nothing duval” averts his eyes. They turn the cards into cash with willing accomplices at the 24 hour convenience stores. There is a huge underground economy in MA.

If you see any of the MA corrupt contingency lurking around simpering, they are in Romney derangement syndrome.

Here is what you should know. A high percentage of MA men are going to go vote Obama and democrats this fall. A high percentage of MA females are going to avert their eyes and “forget” to vote on election day.

The women do not want to engage on the election, they don’t even want to know whose sign your holding on the street corner. Of course some are Stepford wives who will go vote for Barach because Michelle tells them too, but a lot of them are really traumatized after the last election, because they were used. I was out holding signs for the MA primaries yesterday, and the men read the signs and give you high 5 or beep or wave, the elderly wave and cheer, and the women look shyly away. Seriously, they are going to be too busy driving to soccer practice on Nov. 6 to participate.

The honest problem for MA democrats is that in 2002 they hired the firm of Bain Capital, and gave it Carte Blanche to fix their money problem, and it was fixed. They then seized the pile of cash. What cash? I didn’t see any cash…It was ok for them, but they don’t want you to fix the federal government’s money problems. Hypocrites.

Fleuries on September 7, 2012 at 12:44 PM

I want to correct my post, I accidently removed the word Against in this sentence.

Here is what you should know. A high percentage of MA men are going to go vote AGAINST Obama and democrats this fall. A high percentage of MA females are going to avert their eyes and “forget” to vote on election day.

Fleuries on September 7, 2012 at 12:46 PM

But let’s not ignore the hypocrisy. Kerry is far richer than the Romneys thanks to all that condiment money his wife brought to the marriage from her dead husband. Kerry outsourced the construction of his Yacht which he hides in Rhode Island to avoid paying MA taxes on it.

Bmore on September 7, 2012 at 12:41 PM

Well, given that UBL’s religion was inspired by the Deceiver, the Prince of Lies, it’s a pretty safe bet that the virgins in which he believed were a lie and he is now ensconced in Satan’s domain with no hope of either virgins nor bliss.

Obama – Kill, Kill, Kill.
Bush – Capture, interrogate, trial.

And just who won the Peace Prize ?

Jabberwock on September 7, 2012 at 12:54 PM

If this is all they have to run on, along with Obama’s toothy smile, they are in serious trouble on November 6th.

http://www.therightscoop.com/sarah-palin-the-dnc-is-a-bunch-of-bunk-again-tonight/

Had there been less Palin on FoxNews since her FB calling out the network for cancelling her segment last Wednesday and essentially taking her contract negotiation public? She did appear on Cavuto last night, and commented on the DNC and Kerry. The last two weeks were big time political dog and pony show, and you would expect Fox to have her on more often.

bayview on September 7, 2012 at 11:43 AM

She has been on Hannity and Greta after her facebook post. Don’t get me wrong becasue I am a big fan of Sarah’s but maybe she should take some trips to NewYork and Washington every now and then so she can be on site for her spots. When she was in NewYork a few months ago they had her on alot of the daytime shows including “The Five”.
If Romney wins conservatives are going to need her to hold him to account.

Lincoln Cadillac on September 7, 2012 at 1:26 PM

uh -uh John Kerry- DO NOT forget to mention that inside sources have said -as reported by a NY SLIMES reporter, that Valerie Jarret told O to postpone the hit- 3 times before he actually did.

My questions for you self-absorbed liberal morons is….

WHY DID IT NOT HAPPEN IMMEDIATELY??

WHY WAS THERE ANY SECOND GUESSING ?

Was it because O thought maybe the Paki’s, given some time, could tip off OBL- and approach OBL with a “no preconditions” diplomatic solution?

That’s a back story that NEEDS explanation.

FlaMurph on September 7, 2012 at 1:33 PM

John, why the long face?

Bevan on September 7, 2012 at 1:53 PM

So let me get this straight….

bin laden is worse off than he was 4 years ago….can’t disagree….

But did kerry manage to say anyone else IS better off than 4 years ago? So, essentially, we’re all now in the same boat as a dead terrorist. Got it.

If that’s the best the dummy could do, I say let’s just elect Achmed the dead terrorist. Surely he can’t do worse. And he’s much more entertaining, as dummies go.

Silence! I keel you!!!

Dems cheer killing UBL, check

Dems cheer abortion, check

Dems cheer Obamacare check

They really are the Party of Death

MrCaniac on September 7, 2012 at 2:20 PM

True, Bin Laden is not better off than four years ago, and good for that.

But as for that being the metric of success for this administration, I seem to remember an old saying about a blind pig and an acorn…

LooseCannon on September 7, 2012 at 2:22 PM

slickwillie2001 on September 7, 2012 at 1:03 PM

Hypocrites as thick as fleas!

Leno is one sad example. Someone could compile a book on the people who are richer than Nominee Romney and spend their days tormenting the subject of his wealth.

And I gotta’ say, pointing to a lack of foreign-policy experience on the Romney/Ryan ticket is kind of a bold strategy — lest people look back and recall how much foreign-policy experience Barack Obama had acquired by the time he ran for president. Which was precisely none.

Foreign policy experience? The way liberals see it is that anyone with a name like BHO HAS to understand foreign stuff.

As Chris Matthews said: “…he is a gift from the world to us…”

When I would mention his birth certificate flap and the possibility of his being born in Kenya or fraudulently claiming foreign student status for academic preferences, I was a racist.

I did not realized that Osama was a U.S. citizen. Because the “Are you better off?” question traditionally is addressed to the American people, not to Dems’ jihadi pals. Thanks for the halp clearing that up, Lurch.

Christien on September 7, 2012 at 3:00 PM

Let me refresh the theme … for King Putt and his supporters.
Unemployment NEVER under 8%
Osama Bin Laden: Dead
American Economy: On Life Support
Average price of gas: $3.93/gal.
Debt WAY above historical curve.
Muslim Brotherhood on the rise across the ME.
One for six.

Under ‘W’ …
Unemployment under 5.5%
Saddam Hussein: Dead
Uday Hussein: Dead
Qusay Hussein: Dead
Average price of gas: $1.74/gal.
Debt rising but following historcal trend.
Five for six.

Ask Kerry, if Obowma is “killing women and children in the dead of night” and is Kerry for the war or against the war?

dthorny on September 7, 2012 at 3:51 PM

Is it just me, or is it really creepy that the dems are bragging about killing someone?

Granted he was a bad guy, perhaps the worst guy, but can’t we say something along the lines of: It’s regrettable that terrorism exists. It’s regrettable that we lack the ability to come together and discuss our differences in a civilized way. It is regrettable, that the terrorists . . . yadda yadda yadda. The world is a safer place without Osama Bin Laden, but nobody should be happy that it took a killing to make this so.

I know war is necessary sometimes, and we should stop people who would threaten us. But we don’t have to be elated about doing it.
