Oh my: Boos at convention as Dems reinstate language on God and Jerusalem in platform; Update: Obama pushed for language to be added; Update: Or did he? Update: Will MSNBC cover?

The amazing conclusion to yesterday’s snafu involving the Democratic platform’s language on Israel. After an evening of bad press they decided to reinsert the language about Jerusalem being the capital of Israel, along with some language about God after people noticed that the phrase “God-given” in the 2008 platform had been dropped in the new one. Simple process, in theory: Have someone from the floor propose adding the new language, then let the delegates approve it via a voice vote. The result? A trainwreck so awful that even Paul Begala didn’t try to spin it.

As you’ll see, Villaraigosa’s astonishment that there are so many nays is palpable, and pure gold. Reporters were taken aback too:

As were some delegates:

To my ear it’s hard to tell which side had the better of it, but a few people on the scene said there was little doubt:

Mollie Hemingway’s right that the boos at the end are ambiguous. Some people might be booing the language added to the platform, others are likely booing the procedural sham by which Villaraigosa railroaded this through even though there obviously wasn’t two-thirds support for the amendment. (John Boehner and the RNC railroaded their own delegates just last week.) The takeaway, though, for attack-ad purposes isn’t the boos but the degree of opposition to adding the language in the first place. In a few years, they’ll quietly omit it without a second thought. Be who you are, guys.

Update: Let the damage control begin:

That’s the second time in 24 hours that Obama’s been forced to disclaim responsibility for some terribly counterproductive messaging at the convention. Weird how the rank-and-file have these crazy ideas that he in no way shares, isn’t it?

Update: Noah Pollak asks a good question:

July 2012:

Update: Via DrewM, I’m amazed to see that the left’s biggest site apparently is going all-in on the side of the nays. The banner headline at HuffPo tonight:

Update: Politico’s Dylan Byers is watching the cable nets for reaction. As of 7:05 ET:

In today’s edition of “choose your own adventure” news, the amount of times the word “Jerusalem” was mentioned on each channel between 12 p.m. and 7 p.m. today:

Fox News: 33 times

CNN: 16 times

MSNBC: 0 times

Update: Byers updates to say that MSNBC finally got around to mentioning the Jerusalem language in the Democrats’ platform in the 7 p.m. hour tonight.

useful link, sure made system faster

Most people dont mind visible ads, they have a choice to read them, but trackers are not fair, and hog response time

Democrat delegates at the convention are clearly anti-God and anti-Israel. I watched it and it was truly disturbing.

First and second votes: fiddy fiddy.

Final vote was two thirds against.

There are no American tanks in Baghdad!

A lot of that going around at DNC.

Ask Debbie W–you know who….
(of the irritating rising intonation at the end of her repetitious talking point repetitions).

Sickening stuff all around.

Hard to believe there could still be enough believers and/or Jews left in that party for them to risk alienating the squealing atheiests, their dependable anti-semite bloc and their new sponsors, Islam. Actually it was probably Islam that brokered the deal. “Give us Allah and you can have the Jews. For now.” “Do we have to call Him “Allah’?” “Um. You can go with God. This time.” Getting those planks back in there means about as much as any statement by DWS. This anti-life convention should be denounced from every Catholic pulpit in the land this coming Sunday.

The Nays and Ayes sounded evenly split to me. However, I am not on the floor listening live, I am 1,000 miles away listening to a recording.

Somebody high up in the DNC still has some political sense. Maybe it was Obama, or several Senators, or somebody else realized they would get creamed over this issue.

Little by little it has to be getting harder for Christians and Jews to support the Demonic party.

Which word better describes this situation?: “fiasco”? “Fubar”? “Disaster?” “Snafu”? “Oiho”?

Don’t know if this has been discussed, but O spokesman, Ben La Bolt, claimed 24 hours ago that the original platform represented the Preezy’s views.

Kabuki Theatre. This was a way for President Obama to look like he’s more moderate. The party takes the language out of the platform. President Obama rides in and has the language reinstated. I’m sure there are some fools out there that will see that and say, “Gee…he’s going against his party. Maybe he’s not such a leftist after all.”

Planned all along.

Ahh, the Democrats are truly the party of all things for all people.
If you’re for Jerusalem, they’re with you.
If you’re against Jerusalem, they’re with you.
Who can argue with that position?

It’s Democratic genius on display!

OK…. Even if… there were only a handful of “NAYS” to reenter God and Jerusalem as Isreal’s capital and we can all see and hear it was clearly a majority screeching “NAY”…. unglued, unhinged masses of evil, scary hate filled earth dwelling operatives for the dark side IS the FACE of the DEMONCRAT PARTY.

The Platform WAS Approved Prior to this convention…. President Obama IS NOT unaware of the procedural vote necessary on the floor of the convention…. did he REALLLLLLY… intervene to re-insert or was he the reason for the omission?

The democrats behavior and actions prove over and again…. in order to be a democrat you must suffer from mental illness… at the very least multiple personality syndrome… If the platform contains Premeditated Murder (abortion) it cannot support a belief in a christian God. No surprise about the exclusion of Jerusalem… democrat would like nothing more the to have the middle east take out all those trouble making Jews…also premeditated murder… at least they are consistent on that front.

There are sound volume machines that can monitor the decibel level of the jeers and cheers on the vote… someone ought to test it… you know so we all can stop discussing what we already know.

They can’t help it if they had to vote 3 times. They are so used to voting more than once, they just couldn’t stand it. It comes naturally.

On Sunday during mass I said a prayer. It was simple. I asked that G-d show the country the true nature of who Democrats are. How glorious that he answered my prayer over….himself! Also over not only G-d himself but over his chosen people, Israel.

There you have it liberals, this is your party. They boo G-d and Israel but cheer Clinton and abortion.

Oh and did anyone notice that their platform language recognizing Hamas wasn’t “amended”?

Where are the ads? RNC? Superpacs? Hello? This is a gift!

I wasn’t around at the time, but they tell me that there was another political party which abused God and didn’t want Jews on their platform either. Something to do with Germany ?
