Love: Obama bases his success on “how much money he’s divvying out”

posted at 2:41 pm on September 4, 2012 by Erika Johnsen

Mia Love, a Republican mayor from Utah running against a Democratic incumbent for the U.S. House of Representatives, made quite the breakout appearance with her brief but fiery speech towards the start of the Republican National Convention last week — she’s got a strong voice, a compelling story, and a simple message, and I have a feeling we’re going to be hearing a good deal more from her in the weeks to come. Last night on Fox News, she had some tough love for President Obama and his White House’s entitlement spending-happy policies (click the image to watch):

Photobucket

Well it’s interesting, because what his policy did was incentivize bad behavior and punish good behavior. Somehow, it’s not ok — they removed the incentives for people to actually go out and work — and not lose everything. And what we’re doing is we are crippling Americans, and saying ‘We’re just going to hand you a paycheck and you don’t have to do anything about it.’ … Well, we spend $900 billion on poverty programs that are supposed to end poverty, but it continues to grow and grow and grow, which tells you it’s not working. This president would rather rate his success on how much money he’s divvying out than actually rating his success on how many people actually need those programs. … I think he’s stripping away the American dream as we know it.

Hey, speaking of divvying out money with the ostensible purpose of ending poverty (rather than — dare I wonder — maybe keeping and even encouraging people to be dependent on government, perhaps?), here are the latest stats on the Food Stamp Presidency, via Bloomberg:

Food-stamp use reached a record 46.7 million people in June, the government said, as Democrats prepare to nominate President Barack Obama for a second term with the economy as a chief issue in the campaign.

Participation was up 0.4 percent from May and 3.3 percent higher than a year earlier and has remained greater than 46 million all year as the unemployment rate stayed higher than 8 percent. New jobless numbers will be released Sept. 7. …

Food-stamp spending, which has more than doubled in four years to a record $75.7 billion in the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, 2011, is the USDA’s biggest annual expense.

But by all means, USDA — keep aggressively peddling food stamp participation, ’cause we’ve totally got money to burn, right?

Millions of people, maybe even most people, think it’s a good thing when the federal government spends money, as if they are spending it out of their own pocket. This is why the Democrats do as well as they do.

She makes complete sense. You cannot reduce poverty by incentivizing it. The poor will always be with us and the need grows as the subsidization grows. People will naturally follow the path of least resistance. That is, if it all pays the same, why work harder? It is utterly demeaning to give a person food stamps under the auspices of “help” without something in return. What risk is the giver taking in providing this service? NONE whatsoever….What risk is the receiver taking in receiving it? A lot. Each time a person takes a food stamp and something inside them is not stirred toward getting a job, working hard, and doing something productive then they are slowly being turned into a slave.

We’ve got people encouraging others to get on food stamps. We’ve got people encouraging others to get abortions. I suppose free government heroin samples are just around the corner….

To a lunatic-left d-cRAT socialist extremist, a person is NOT a person. A person is a color, a gender, a sexual orientation, an income level, a senior, a student, an ethnic group, a religion, a political type, etc. The lunatic-left treats each of these characteristics independently from the others so the d-cRAT socialists can play their DIVIDE-AND-PANDER game by pandering to each characteristic separately. This disgusting process helps destroy the unifying fabric of society, it causes friction and dissent among all of the people and it fosters a disruptive and unhealthy competition between people in each characteristic area that is shamelessly exploited by the lunatic-left d-cRAT socialists to benefit only themselves.

that’s what liberals want… they don’t want to give poor people incentives to work hard and try to lift themselves out of poverty. they want the poor to stay poor. they want to put the idea in poor people’s heads that they can’t lift themselves up. they put the idea in their heads that gov’t is the only solution- you are an underprivileged victim, so you don’t have the capability to “build that” (build success) without gov’t. it’s pretty manipulative and cruel.

THIS. this is something that’s at the core of liberalism: de-emphasis of the individual, emphasis of the collective. it’s all about what group you’re in. it’s not about what each unique individual person can achieve if they work hard and apply themselves!

Mia Love has a great future. I’d vote for her in a heartbeat.

Well it’s interesting, because what his policy did was incentivize bad behavior and punish good behavior.

I’ve said this in a previous thread, things are really backwards in our country right now. We have a party that demonizes those who work hard, are successful and prosper: “You didn’t build that”, “Spread the wealth”, “The 1%”, etc and we extol and beatify those who have not done so or failed to live up to their potential. The successful are condemned, the unsuccessful are elevated. The unsuccessful don’t show gratitude for charity shown them, but rather demand such charity as entitlements and demand even more. Look at how this started with the LBJ “War on Poverty” and how, after nearly 4 decades, we are still told that we are not doing enough for the nation’s poor and downtrodden and that we need to strip even more money from the “rich”, where the definition of rich pretty much extends down to anyone who has a good paying job.

This is all backwards and alarming.

We need to change the food stamp program to be more like the WIC program. You can buy the basics, NOT JUNK FOOD! You would think the Dem food police would be all over that. I am so sick of seeing people with a cart full of soda, cookies, chips, ice cream, etc go thru the checkout and then swipe their link card. I’ve even seen people buying steaks and shrimp with it. When I was younger I knew a woman who would have a big party every month. She bragged about buying all the meat, chips, and soda with her food stamps. This is something that should be very easy to reform, and save billions of $$$.

WestTexasBirdDog on September 4, 2012 at 5:59 PM

She’s fine. Whatever. Unremarkable. She’s a small town mayor who will probably lose her contest for the US House.

What’s really interesting about her is what she exposes about the GOP. The party and its members are perfectly happy to use affirmative action to prop people up when they think it benefits their side. It’s pathetic and unprincipled. No one would know her name and she certainly wouldn’t have gotten a speaking slot at the convention if she weren’t a black woman.

Ostrich Egg on September 4, 2012 at 6:34 PM

That was a black woman? Hmm. All I noticed was a principled conservative who is capable of telling the truth, which doesn’t happen to be convenient to the current administration.

Who cares about the gender or national heritage of the speaker, I care only about the content of their words. I applaud the content in this case, and believe the speaker is sincere, passionate and interested in liberty as outlined in the Constitution. That makes the speaker much more than “unremarkable”, I don’t care if they’re a Senator, Governor, small town Mayor, or a street sweeper. Neither should you, or anyone else.
