Dem platform backs taxpayers subsidies for abortion through birth

posted at 11:21 am on September 4, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

Democrats released their approved platform last night, a curious Labor Day exercise considering the results.  With unemployment the chief concern of voters in this election, how often does the word “unemployment” appear in the DNC document?  BuzzFeed’s Andrew Kaczynski counted, and found only three mentions;abortion got four.  What other terms outplay the biggest issue in this election?  Andrew finds a few interesting comparisons in his pictorial:

  • Joe Biden – 1 time
  • Osama bin Laden – 4 times
  • Romney – 22 times
  • Auto – 15 times
  • Jobs – 77 times
  • Obama – 111 times

Here are a couple that Andrew missed:

  • Fair share – 9 times
  • Contraception – 3 times

It seems that contraception is as important to this document as unemployment, abortion slightly more important, and redistribution three times more of an issue for Democrats as unemployment.

Speaking of abortions, John McCormack notes that Democrats have taken an extreme position on the issue by refusing to limit their support to the first trimester and to push for taxpayer subsidies for abortions:

The 2012 Democratic party will officially adopt an extreme position on the issue of abortion on Tuesday. According to a copy of the party platform, which was released online just before midnight on Monday, “The Democratic Party strongly and unequivocally supports Roe v. Wade and a woman’s right to make decisions regarding her pregnancy, including a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay.”

That last part–”regardless of ability to pay”–is an endorsement of taxpayer-funded abortions, a policy that President Obama has personally endorsed. …

The 2012 Democratic party also endorses an unrestricted right to abortion-on-demand. According to the platform, on the issue of abortion “there is no place for politicians or government to get in the way.”

No place at all, huh?  Remember when Bill Clinton pushed his party into supporting a policy to make abortion “safe, legal, and rare,” a position that appeared in their platform through 2004?  Democrats don’t.  There is no longer any such language in their platform, which should inform voters that Democrats not only don’t want to make abortion rare, they want taxpayers footing the bill for them.

It’s entirely consistent, Democrats own this abortion of an economy so the few remaining taxpayers need to subsidize the abortions of the women Democrats have impoverished.

NoDonkey on September 4, 2012 at 11:29 AM

This is why the GOP should welcome the debate on abortion, just like they did on Medicare. The Democrat position is indefensible according to polls. The vast majority of Americans want no part of partial-birth abortion(once explained to them, at least) and they certainly don’t want their tax dollars funding it regardless of whether or not they’re pro-choice.

Naturally. Democrats are very generous with other people’s money, even when it comes to taking life in the womb. Surprised they didn’t go all in and support out and out infanticide, as their Dear Leader did in IL.

natasha333 on September 4, 2012 at 11:26 AM

First off, the Catholic leadership needs to realize:

1. Neither party really respects their opinion unless it supports their own bigger Federal government roles (see illegal immigration).

2. The Catholic leadership should ask…..why don’t both parties respect our opinions? What do we need to do to change that? Are Catholics taken for granted the same way Blacks or Jews are by the Dems? Are Catholics just house help like the Evangelicals are to the gop?

davidk on September 4, 2012 at 11:45 AM

If democrats support abortion through birth (taxpayer funded of course) what’s next? Surely they will soon expand that to support actually murdering live children. After all, a baby that is 3 months old isn’t any more able to live on his or her own than they were 3 months after conception.

Where will this end? Will democrats claim the “right to choose” includes “terminating” their 30 year old tubby law student children who still live in their basement?

wildcat72 on September 4, 2012 at 11:45 AM

I’ve never understood “safe, legal, and rare”. If abortion is not the taking of a human life, but just the elimination of a mass of nonviable tissue, and if it is perfectly harmless to the mother, both of which are things the Democrats claim, then why would we care if it’s rare or not?

There is little doubt that Obama would love taxpayer funded abortions. Thankfully, the Hyde Amendment (mostly) prevents him from doing just that at the federal level.I just wish that were also true at the state level. It’s sad that certain Governors (like, umm…Mitt Romney) can still sign off on using taxpayer funds for infant-cide, and hardly anyone cares.

Meh. Its mere convenience at issue here. Lineup of prominent speakers to cast president as an advocate for women

CHARLOTTE, N.C. “I love women!” Ann Romney gushed last week at a Republican convention dedicated at times to winning over female voters – a group that has long preferred Democrats.

Even the GOP men reached out, spending some of their speaking time on emotional salutes to their mothers.

Now it’s the Democrats’ turn. And judging by the women-in-the-news invited to speak in Charlotte, the Obama campaign will pitch female voters by casting the president as an advocate for women – and his opponents as defenders of a benighted past.

Among those on the roster of speakers in Charlotte:

• Lilly Ledbetter. A victim of past discrimination, she is the namesake of the first bill Obama signed into law, which requires that women get equal pay for the same work.

• Sandra Fluke. She’s the Georgetown University student called a “slut” this year by conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh after backing a provision in Obama’s health care plan calling for coverage of contraception.

• Cecile Richards. She’s president of Planned Parenthood, whose funding for women’s health screenings was cut, then restored, this year in what appeared to be a flap over abortion.

The Obama campaign

God will have Mercy upon whom he so chooses. The Blood of 50 million plus American babies cries out to God for justice. Remember what Jesus Christ said about harming a child. Think about these things for a few minuets.

I honestly doubt God will punish the innocent with the guilty, but if there is ever anything that you recognize as a true and faithful statement, know that this is indeed it.

Hell is coming, it is coming for those responsible for murdering 50 million plus American babies. It is coming for those who work tirelessly to keep the killing of millions of innocent American babies gong. And absolutely nothing in all of creation will stop it from collecting what it has been sent to collect.

I think you’re all wrong on this one Ed. There’s no desire on the part of the Democrats for taxpayer-funded abortions. When you control the health care industry, why bother with the mess of trying to pass a bill through Congress?

No, they’ll effectively do the same thing by mandating that all insurance companies cover elective abortions and then we’ll all pay for it through an increase in our insurance premiums. When you control insurance premiums, taxes are so passé. Really, get with the program.

The controversy over the contraceptive mandate was a just a dry run for the elective abortion mandate.

Betty White being touted as the mystery guest for DNC speech?

http://www.webpronews.com/betty-white-going-up-against-eastwood-at-dnc-2012-09

That would be perfect because her profession has what a 90% unemployment rate at any given moment?

Do it Rose Nyland, make our day.

PappyD61 on September 4, 2012 at 12:04 PM

It would look so lame for them to engage in a tit for tat like that with the RNC.

changer1701 on September 4, 2012 at 12:28 PM

They’re basically going from “Safe, legal, and rare” to “Safe, legal and required.”

Sandra Fluke as a Democrat hero and featured speaker at their convention. A thirty-year-old ‘professional’ student who wants me and mine to pay so she can continue to have sex at will.

They’re not placing the hero bar very high these days over at the DNC, are they?

CaptFlood on September 4, 2012 at 12:35 PM

OK, it states: “a safe and legal abortion, regardless of ability to pay.”

Should they pass legislation saying that, it means, all clinics would be required to facilitate a woman’s abortion, and bill the feds (us), yes ?
Cuz it’s worked SOOO well with Medicaire, eh ?

Well, it might limit the number of abortion doctors !
Or, would it mean MORE, so your typical doc can actually make some $$ ???
Sheesh.

pambi on September 4, 2012 at 12:38 PM

Come on, guys. You should be counting instances of both ‘unemployment’ *AND* ‘jobs’ (for a total of 80, then, using your numbers). Of *course* they’re going to avoid the ‘u’ word like the plague! ‘Jobs’ lets them talk around it in order to imply we’re in recovery, and more jobs are on the way.

Rhetoric notwithstanding, you’re being a little dishonest here…

Amended Democratic plank:

Abortion: Safe, Always legal from the first trimester, to the infinite trimester and rare.

Abortion Motto: “You know, I brought you in this world, and I can take you out. And it don’t make no difference to me, I’ll make another one look just like you.” – Accidentally stolen from Bill Cosby by Fareed Zakaria when he made a typo; Joe “Brainiac”(Joe invented that word himself)Biden approved

There are over 50 million empty chairs in America today due to their platform. The party of perverts and baby killers and bill clinton the rapist in command of his speach. Ahhh remember the good old days when they defended the murderer ted kennedy….the only war on woman is the one waged by these jackasses…

“Abortion is the ultimate form of cheating! You’re cheating nature itself! Why do rich white girls get ahead in life? Because they get abortions when they’re young! They get pregnant, but they still want to go to college so, whatever, they just cheat! They cheat that little critter in their belly right out of a chance at life.”

With unemployment the chief concern of voters in this election, how often does the word “unemployment” appear in the DNC document? BuzzFeed’s Andrew Kaczynski counted, and found only three mentions…
***
•Jobs – 77 times

Jobs is a legitimate synonym for “unemployment” for purpose of this analysis; they’re both talking about the same basic issue. So the total number of mentions is 80, and not 3 as the author claims.

More relevant, in my mind, is that the #1 term used in the DNC Platform is Obama himself. This election really is all about him, isn’t it?

Outlander on September 4, 2012 at 12:43 PM

I was born 4(maybe 5 or 6) weeks early. I was certainly ‘viable’. Enough said.

annoyinglittletwerp on September 4, 2012 at 12:43 PM

And should the living child survive the abortionist chamber, then they should be put to death anyway according to Obama who used a cunning Harvard-trained lawyer buzzword for future Supreme Courts to grasp onto and continue the horrendous slaughter of God’s most precious.

He justified infanticide because of “intent.”

I submit that if the child is no longer part of the “mother’s” (misnomer?) body then she has no say in what amounts to child murder, nor does the faux messiah or his beloved state.

This is the evil we get when we turn our backs on the real God and worship the faux ones. This is only the beginning. It won’t stop with babies. We are trying to challenge Nazi Germany and Stalin’s Soviet people-killing machines for the grand prize-the end of civilization. Wonderful stuff this progressiveness.

Guys, we need to stop talking about abortion. I am pro-life, but I think we need to play this as a submarine issue.

The statistics I’ve seen are that 3 in 10 women will have an abortion during their reproductive lives. Single women think unfettered abortion access is a big bleepin’ deal. We aren’t going to get the single women vote, but the last thing we need to do is to rile them up and play into the Democrats’ get-out-the-vote machine. Better to focus those women’s attention on Obama’s dismal economic performance and hope they stay home disillusioned.

Outlander on September 4, 2012 at 12:48 PM

How am I as a Catholic to square that with Obama’s plan to use tax dollars to kill the unborn? I cannot.

natasha333 on September 4, 2012 at 11:26 AM

And of course, Obama is pretty comfortable killing the just born as well.

DaveDief on September 4, 2012 at 12:49 PM

A question the GOP should ask the media when they are confronted with the GOP’s “extreme” position on abortion. If a pregnancy is left to follow its natural course, what is the result absent illness or trauma? A new born human being, every time. Since that is the natural order should it not be the burden of those advocating abortion to prove they are not terminating an innocent human life. Is not terminating a pregnancy absent the proof that the fetus is not a human life an extreme position?

xkaydet65 on September 4, 2012 at 12:49 PM

So now the psycho-sociopathic serial killers want me to foot the bill for their fetish?

Are we at the last straw yet?

I think that being forced to support/subsidize something that is morally abhorrent is pretty much the last straw.
The control freaks just have to keep pushing and pushing and pushing in order to see how much they can get away with- and what better demonstration of control than to get people to act in direct opposition to their moral beliefs?

justltl on September 4, 2012 at 12:52 PM

An abortion is never “safe” for the unborn child killed in the process.

natasha333 on September 4, 2012 at 12:56 PM

But the brave, brave GOP (excepting Newt) have been traumatized into silence. We can’t talk about this. The media and Left won.

I respectfully disagree. I don’t care if it’s 10 out of 10 women having an abortion during their lifetime. For the overwhelming majority it is an elective procedure arising from an elective event. I see no valid reason that the public has to cover this. The Sandra Flukes of the world can get as worked up as they allow themselves to get over this issue. What the heck is it witha 30 year old woman who cannot afford birth control?

Yes because the word “jobs”, appearing 77 times, has nothing to do with employment.
