Cutter: An incomplete is a totally awesome grade after four years

posted at 12:01 pm on September 4, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

We’ve been waiting for the Barack Obama re-election campaign to come up with a new slogan ever since they added a period to “FORWARD.”  If the last 24 hours are any indication, the new slogan is either “INCOMPLETE” or possibly “GIVE ME ONE MORE CHANCE.”  After Barack Obama gave himself an “incomplete” on the economy in a Colorado Springs TV news interview last night, ABC’s Jake Tapper asks Team Obama deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter whether that “cut[s] it” as an answer.  Absolutely, Cutter responds:

TAPPER: “So President Obama was asked recently about the grade he would give himself. And once again he gave himself an incomplete. It’s been four years. Does that answer cut it? An incomplete after a full term?”

CUTTER: “Yeah, it does, because, you know, once again I’ll remind you of what life was like when he took office. 800,000 jobs were lost in that month alone. 3.5 million in the 6 months prior. And, you know, pretty quickly he was able to turn job loss into job growth. But when he’s saying incomplete, it means a number of different things. One: we’re on a path forward. You know, we’re on our way up. And there is a lot more that he wants to get done. He’s not done yet.”

We’re moving forward?  Really?  Unemployment has been above 8% since before the recovery began, and we’ve only averaged an additional 66,000 jobs per months since — far below the level needed to keep up with population growth.  Once again, here’s the latest from the BLS on the civilian participation rate, which started at 65.7% when Obama took office and was at the same level when the recovery began in June 2009 — but has plunged ever since, to a 30-year low:

Cutter says, “He’s not done yet.”  That’s what keeps many of us awake at night.

What unrealistic school system is Cuttheroff a product of? All the schools I’ve attended gave you a few months into the following semester to clear up your “incompletes” or they reverted to “F”s which I think is quite appropriate in this case. Oprocrastinator has been blankin’ enough, time to get off the pot (and yes you can read that in two different ways!).

can someone PLEASE start making the (good) “SNL” skits on this stuff ???

Like Stephanie getting briefed on having to go out and say this schtuff . . .

Characters:
Axelrod
Cutter
Obama

Cutter facing camera, Obama beside Axelrod, both backs to camera.

David Alxerod, looking at Cutter: “We’re going with ‘incomplete’ now Barry’s grade on the economy, ok ?”

Cutter: “Seriously ? Incomplete ? You think anyone will buy this cr** ?”
- Looks at Obama, cocks her head: “Seriously”

Obama shrugs his shoulders, lifts arms slightly with palms in air.

Cutter looks at Axelrod again, first with a furrowed brow, then she starts cracking up laughing.

Cutter looks back to Obama: “Uh, who comes up with this stuff, anyway.”

Obama, with legs crossed and fingers interlocked on knees, simply nods his head in the direction of Axelrod.

Cutter pauses for a moment while looking at Obama, then looks back to Axelrod, who nods his head in confirmation of the plan.

Cutter tenses up, then buries her head in a double face-palm.

————
How hard would it be for these humorous skits. I mean, they’re ready-made.

Karl Denninger, who is pretty much my ultimate authority in all matters pertaining to economics, has been eviscerating Gary Johnson for months in his Market Ticker blog. Judging by my daughter’s college circle of stoners, Ron Paul’s libertarian cohorts are now torn between sitting out and reluctantly voting for Romney, whereas Obama was never even considered a valid sane option. All it takes to score them is a public promise by Romney to either a) audit the Fed, b) federally decriminalize weed, or, the worst option IMHO, c) pull out of Afghanistan in awful hurry.

But when he’s saying incomplete, it means a number of different things.

Yes, it does mean a few things.

1. It means President Gutsy does not have the courage to give himself an actual grade. It means he is gutless.

2. It means he knows he would have a lot of trouble defending any grade over about a “D”.

3. It means he does not want to try to give the country a progress report on his plan and a grade to date based on that plan, because he doesn’t have a plan.

4. It means he does not want to talk about the economy.

5. It means the dog ate his homework on the economy, or something.

Should someone have a pipeline to the Romney/Ryan campaign, please share this:

They need to flip the Just Words speech on BHO and hammer him with it (though he didn’t write it in the first place but, rather, borrowed it from Deval Patrick, who probably also got it from David Axelrod, campaign strategist for both men).

BHO has accused the R’s of promoting nothing but old ideas. The opening they leave is the size of a Greyhound.

Paraphrase the opening of Just Words and substitute old ideas for the responses.

Old ideas?

You mean old ideas like Self Determination? Government of the people, by the people, for the people? The oath of office, “…preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States… (rather than ignore the parts I don’t like)? Capitalism? Limited Government? Rights of States to manage their own affairs? Controlling the national debt? Stopping the buck at your desk rather than passing it to anyone but yourself?

These old ideas built this country.

Apparently, Barack Obama thinks new ideas are better. It’s a shell game. Barack Obama’s ideas are not new. They had been tried and failed many times before he fell in love with them.

But, as a follower of the fractured fairy tale version of history, he may honestly not be aware that “progressive” has served as a front for taking from some to give to others for centuries. So, why is this new idea (that isn’t new) so popular among Barack Obama’s believers in Santa and Robin Hood? Because it isn’t about those who receive; it’s about those who give. It’s about those who reap the real benefit of this arrangement, those who take and give. Those who hand out the tickets to the circus and the plates of sweet cakes to the rubes who think it’s all free.

Because that is where power resides. Because all those grateful souls (who don’t realize they’re paying with a slice of their own soul for a slice of free cake) can be expected to be grateful to, and vote for, their benefactors. And that is why this new theory of economics, also known by its other names (sometimes politely called redistribution for the social good – according to “us” and not “them” of course – see Atlas Shrugged), is so popular with Barack Obama and the juveniles trying to run the U.S. Government.

Is it possible that they actually believe they thought of these new ideas?

None of the ideas above are either new or old. They are all old. They are either good ideas or bad ideas; that’s it.

Barack Obama is a new face on a dusty satchel of tired, worn-out, bad ideas.

And there’s nothing new in that. They come along, dressed up with a smile and a new suit, more often in history than they should. The outcome is always the same. If we’re paying attention.

Incomplete means he did not get the job done in a specifically allotted timeframe.

It struck me because for the past few years the mouthpieces for Obama have been sticking to the 750,000 number. But suddenly in the last few week, that number has miraculously jumped (been rounded up, I assume) to 800,000. And of course, it was very noticable to me that every Obama campaign talking head all started using 800,000 at exactly the same time. Clearly a campaign missive went out telling everyone to round that number up to 800,000 to make it sound even worse.

Sen. Tom Harkin just went racist on Eastwood and the Tea Party:

Clint Eastwood is the “perfect icon” for the GOP, Iowa Sen. Tom Harkin said Tuesday, describing the legendary actor as “an old angry white man spewing incoherent nonsense.”

The Des Moines Register reported the 72-year-old Harkin made his comments on the Iowa delegation’s breakfast this morning in Charlotte, N.C.

“We’ve got our work cut out for us this week, folks, following the Republican convention,” Harkin told the delegates. “I mean, how are we ever going to match Clint Eastwood? I got to thinking he is the perfect icon for today’s Republican tea party: an old angry white man spewing incoherent nonsense.”

Why can’t some ad person subtract the number of jobs/month we currently have from the number of jobs/month if they had done nothing and use that against them? It seems like that would illustrate what his actual grade would be. F-

red131 on September 4, 2012 at 3:49 PM

If I could write Obama’s speech I would say.

“You know what America, I know were not better off then we were four years ago. We still have a long way to go to get back to where we were before George Bush the 2nd. I’ll be totally honest with you, all of my programs havent worked and we are not where I would like us to be. I under estimated the damage done, I didnt come into office starting at zero. I came into office starting at negative 1000. The first thing I had to do when I came into office is avoid another great depression, that was my number one job. The eight years prior to me taking office had us on the brink of a depression and I took the needed steps to avoid that. Now were not where we need to be but we have made progress, it took eight years to get us in the hole that were in, Its going to take more then four years to get us out of it.

My challenger wants us to go back to the way things were, which is funny. They blame me for not having our economy recover quicker but think about it, why do we need recovery in the first place? If a plumbing company messes up the pipes in your home and you call another plumbing company to fix it, and the plumbing company you called to fix it, isnt getting it fixed as quick as you had hoped or they had promised, do you call the original plumbing company back to your house knowing they are the ones who messed up the plumbing in the first place or do you give the new plumbers more time? I need more time to get us back on the right track. We tried Republican fiscal policies and it got us to the point where we needed recovery, the recovery isnt happening as fast as we expected but the answer isnt to go back to the same policies.

I want you all to go home and use your internet search browsers, look at your elected politicians and republican talking heads vowing not to work with me from my first 20-40-60-80-100 days in office. Its obvious that from the begining that Republicans cared more about positioning them selves for attack lines this year then they did about getting America back up and on its feet when we needed it the most. I was naive enough to think that I would be able to work across the aisle and get things done but I’ve learned its not as simple as I thought. George Bush had eight years to get us in this position. Give me another four to get us out of it.”

Or something similar

:)

Really? Since when does an incomplete pass for success? I don’t recall being awarded a high school diploma when I got straight incomplete’s prior to dropping out of high school!

This sounds like the manifestation of the “everyone gets a trophy” mentality of the left having seeped into our highest office of government…lord help us all!

Liberty or Death on September 4, 2012 at 4:40 PM

have seen a robust recovery instead of this horrible stagnflation.

BigAlSouth on September 4, 2012 at 4:52 PM

The eight years prior to me taking office had us on the brink of a depression and I took the needed steps to avoid that.

donks seem the think we don’t know they had the house and senate for the last two years and we had a deadlocked senate two months after Bush took office ala Jumpin’ Jim Jeffords. Obama voted for every spending initiative they forwarded that Bush didn’t veto, he took half the TARP money and gave quite a bit to GM, GMAC and Chrysler. Then got a $865 million stimulus that didn’t do anything promised. Good dem speech though Politricks. full of shaz.

DanMan on September 4, 2012 at 4:54 PM

Going from a good, solid B+ to a Incomplete is an decline in grade.

Cutter: An incomplete is a totally awesome grade after four years

Hey… Ms.Cutter can honestly say that Barky accomplished something so special and unique that he will be remembered with interest forever.

In less than one term, he piled on more debt ($5.4 trillion) than G.W. Bush did in two full terms.

jrgdds on September 4, 2012 at 5:59 PM

Ms. Cutter doesn’t mention that the Dems controlled both houses from January, 2007. It’s all Bush’s fault.

NoPain on September 4, 2012 at 6:19 PM

Actually, an Incomplete isn’t that bad. Doesn’t an empty chair in a classroom usually rate a “No Record”?

malclave on September 4, 2012 at 6:25 PM

Remind me a non-native son of the U.S.A., how do you call a quarterback that throws nothing but “incomplete”?

Archivarix on September 4, 2012 at 12:42 PM

We call them to our car to put the groceries in the trunk.

PastorJon on September 4, 2012 at 6:27 PM

“Incomplete” means that he hasn’t announced that he is seizing power yet.

Bulletchaser on September 4, 2012 at 7:52 PM

“He’s not done yet.”

That’s for the American people to decide. May God guide them to the right choice- the one that includes His name in their platform.

But we watch them very closely because even that is above their paygrade.

Happy Nomad on September 4, 2012 at 7:54 PM

The problem with “Give me another chance” is that it would require contrition for having let the country down. Heh, fat chance. Otherwise an Abusive Narcissistic Boyfriend metaphor would be spot on.

ConservativeLA on September 4, 2012 at 7:56 PM

At least we’re getting a clue about Barry’s college transcripts…

profitsbeard on September 4, 2012 at 8:01 PM

$ more years and he might raise it up to ‘FAILURE’. If he wins, American loses. So using their terminology, Bush would have 2 incompletes and that would be fine by them.

j bo on September 4, 2012 at 8:42 PM

We were losing a large number of jobs the last 6 months or so not because of what Bush did, but because of what ‘O’Bozo was about to do. The unemployment figures were around 5.5 percent until ‘O’ received the nomination and then things went south, because everyone knew what was going to come down the pike and they were correct in their assumptions.
