Cutter: An incomplete is a totally awesome grade after four years

posted at 12:01 pm on September 4, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

We’ve been waiting for the Barack Obama re-election campaign to come up with a new slogan ever since they added a period to “FORWARD.”  If the last 24 hours are any indication, the new slogan is either “INCOMPLETE” or possibly “GIVE ME ONE MORE CHANCE.”  After Barack Obama gave himself an “incomplete” on the economy in a Colorado Springs TV news interview last night, ABC’s Jake Tapper asks Team Obama deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter whether that “cut[s] it” as an answer.  Absolutely, Cutter responds:

TAPPER: “So President Obama was asked recently about the grade he would give himself. And once again he gave himself an incomplete. It’s been four years. Does that answer cut it? An incomplete after a full term?”

CUTTER: “Yeah, it does, because, you know, once again I’ll remind you of what life was like when he took office. 800,000 jobs were lost in that month alone. 3.5 million in the 6 months prior. And, you know, pretty quickly he was able to turn job loss into job growth. But when he’s saying incomplete, it means a number of different things. One: we’re on a path forward. You know, we’re on our way up. And there is a lot more that he wants to get done. He’s not done yet.”

We’re moving forward?  Really?  Unemployment has been above 8% since before the recovery began, and we’ve only averaged an additional 66,000 jobs per months since — far below the level needed to keep up with population growth.  Once again, here’s the latest from the BLS on the civilian participation rate, which started at 65.7% when Obama took office and was at the same level when the recovery began in June 2009 — but has plunged ever since, to a 30-year low:

Cutter says, “He’s not done yet.”  That’s what keeps many of us awake at night.

When BigSven went to school, you normally got an “incomplete” when you didn’t show up for class (and your chair was empty)…

If your “excuse” was valid you could make up the work. If you had NO EXCUSE or it was LAME you got an “F” (FAIL)

BigSven on September 4, 2012 at 12:09 PM

So tired of hearing the “800k” jobs a month being lost when he took office. As if he did something to stop that.

He came in right at the time of the collapse, so it was natural for huge numbers of losses to come within that time period. It’s not like the economy would have continued losing 800k jobs a month forever if he didn’t act.

I have no doubt in my mind if it wasn’t for the government interference, we would have seen a robust recovery instead of this horrible stagnation.

From Occidental, where you went for undergrad, Mr. President:

If a student incurs a significant illness or some other special circumstance beyond their control, they may petition for an incomplete and finish their coursework after the official end of the semester.

An example from Harvard, where you went to law school and were the first something or other, Mr. President:

Incomplete” indicates incomplete course work and is only granted for medical reasons.

An example from the University of Chicago. Say, that’s where you taught, wasn’t it Mr. President?

students must have completed at least half of the total required course work with a grade of C- or better and they must be unable to complete all of the course work by the end of the quarter due to an emergency.

Well done, Mr. President. Thanks for not blaming your daughters this time, though.

She is so stupid that I almost feel bad for Obama.

Incomplete from one of the most smug and self-absorbed people on the planet is the equivalent of an “F.” If he had done something positive, he literally would not shut up about it. So, him saying incomplete, is basically him saying “I deserve an F, but would like a mulligan because my performance might still deserve a D-”

And, does Cutter really think that saying that he is not done yet instills confidence in people? The fact that he might still do more scares more people than it gives confidence to.

OT/ Sorry, guys!

Democrats set to move Obama’s big speech from 74,000-seater outdoor stadium to 20,000-seater indoor arena

By Toby Harnden In Charlotte, North Carolina

Democrats are poised to avoid the danger of President Barack Obama accepting his party’s nomination before a partially-empty stadium by shifting his speech to an indoor arena and citing ‘severe weather’.

The Obama campaign have been working desperately to ensure that the 74,000-seater Bank of America stadium in Charlotte would be filled.

Buses for students from across North Carolina and even members of black churches in neighboring South Carolina have been arranged.”

I’m not all that far from Charlotte, and so far I’m not aware of weather problems that would match an approaching hurricane. The Dems can’t cope with a little rain?
