Open thread: Sunday morning talking heads

posted at 8:01 am on September 2, 2012 by Allahpundit

With the convention starting Tuesday, Democrats will use this morning’s shows to introduce fresh, exciting young leaders like David Axelrod, David Plouffe, and Bill Richardson. Mayors Rahm Emanuel and Antonio Villaraigosa will be on too to explain how their cities and home states became the astonishing fiscal successes that America will try to emulate if Obama wins a second term.

Martin O’Malley, who passes these days for a dynamic next-generation Democratic political star, will appear as well. The line-up via WaPo:

NBC’s Meet the Press: Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel; Newt Gingrich; Carly Fiorina, former CEO of Hewlett-Packard; Doris Kearns Goodwin, presidential historian; Tom Friedman, New York Times; Tom Brokaw, NBC

CBS’ Face the Nation: Gov. Martin O’Malley (D-MD); former Gov. Bill Richardson (D-NM); Obama campaign manager Stephanie Cutter; Dan Balz, Washington Post; Trish Regan, Bloomberg TV; Michael Eric Dyson, Georgetown University; John Dickerson, CBS News

ABC’s This Week: David Plouffe, White House senior adviser; George Will, ABC News; Bill Burton, Priorities USA; former Gov. Kerry Healey (R-MA); Donna Brazile, political consultant; Matthew Dowd, political consultant

Fox News Sunday: David Axelrod, Obama campaign senior adviser; Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa; Brit Hume, Fox News; Kirsten Powers, The Daily Beast; Bill Kristol, Weekly Standard; Jeff Zeleny, New York Times

CNN’s State of the Union with Candy Crowley: Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa; Gov. Bev Perdue (D-NC); Gov. Martin O’Malley (D-MD); Robert Gibbs, Obama campaign senior adviser; Jessica Yellin, CNN; Dan Balz, Washington Post

Snarkapalooza! I think Mayor Emanuel should also tout the astonishingly low assault and murder rates in the windy city since he took office. Why, what other city can boast 19 or more shootings on any given night, in any given section of his town?

Fox News is getting to be nearly as painful to watch as CNN and others. Krystal is real idiot that professes to be a voice of the conservative world, but helps the liberal cause nearly every time he opens his mouth. Romney had his focus right for that speech. There is plenty of time and the 4 debates to focus on those issues. Had he spoke of them (Afganstan, etc.) then the post-speech analysis could have be focused on the wrong issues.

Good! And as I expected.

I have already known liberals who are trying to make hay of this ‘question’, also claiming a poll (no source cited) ‘shows’ the military opposes Romney because of what he didn’t say at the convention.

The liberal spin on this is crazy, the opposing commentaries made almost on the same day.

On one hand, Romney wants to increase military spending so he’s a war-monger. On the other, he didn’t mention the military in his acceptance speech so he ignores the military.

This line of BS, and other many examples, hint at suppressing the votes of Republicans in general and Conservatives in particular.

The worst things to happen to liberals are the expansion of talk radio, and the invention of the Internet.

Thanks for the heads-up!

Credibility insurance?

The media aren’t going to tell us everything they know (think of yellow journalism).

With lagging ad sales and readership, the MSM seems slowly trying to regain lost credibility. They have been in the tank for Obama all along, but now he’s a possible lost cause. My view is that they want to distance themselves from him, but they can’t just bail. Their only choice is to ease away, then hope we all forget where they have been for four years.

They can’t fully let go, of course. Their love for Obama wasn’t wrong, mind you. It’s just that ‘the electorate changed its mind and we need to report it.’

With hints and dashes of how we’re sill a racist war-mongering Islam-hating pro-Israel country.

kingsjester on September 2, 2012 at 9:23 AM

Air America failed because it was a phony parody of “right-wing” talk radio based on utterly false premises (strident, angry and intolerant yelling for 3+ hours sells) that no one wanted to listen to. Besides, the left already had NPR (which had far higher production values) and the truly lunatic among them could stream Pacifica.

ebrown2 on September 2, 2012 at 10:59 AM

Hot Air needs to get Newt’s rant on abortion.

The libs were shamed into silence, and Gregory had to try to double-talk them out of it.

I’d like to see Akin get out, but when Newt turned the table on them to ask why Biden isn’t dropped from the ticket, NBC had a shot of the panel libs and they had nothing. Their silence spoke volumes. Gregory had to defend Biden with a ridicilous comeback that Biden really meant “regulatory chains.” And Newt ultimately got back and threw that back in Gregory’s face.

Seriously, for those who didn’t see this, it is MUST SEE.

BuckeyeSam on September 2, 2012 at 10:59 AM

Newt was AWESOME.

BuckeyeSam on September 2, 2012 at 11:01 AM

Akins is gonna win anyway, and he successfully focused the discussion on the EXTREMISM of Dem platform & Obama in wanting not ony to use tax money to finance abortions in the 8th or 9th month, but also Obama voting four times against protecting born-alive babies who survive an abortion.

If the Dems use their convention to harp on abortion, it is gonna hurt them and Mitt will expand his lead.

I agree. Newt’s talk on abortion should be its own thread. Must see TV.

If the Dems want to run on baby-killing, then Romney can run targeted ads in those battleground states with his millions to let the world know O’s vies FOR infanticide.

Who is the extremist now?

Gregory had to defend Biden with a ridicilous comeback that Biden really meant “regulatory chains.” And Newt ultimately got back and threw that back in Gregory’s face.

…..

The MSM’s blatant desire to defend the left and their hilarious cries that they are balanced just make me laugh.

Newt was AWESOME.

He WAS horrid, but if he went there, I missed it.

Axelrod is ….Bahgdad Bob…so in denial.

Internal polls have Romney up 4+% I’m guessing.

It’s too bad the corn crop is weak this year along with ethanol subsidies.

We are gonna need a whol-lotta popcorn people.

We could always compromise on the abortion thing.

The fetuses of liberals get aborted, while the babies of Conservatives are not.
