Open thread: Sunday morning talking heads

posted at 8:01 am on September 2, 2012 by Allahpundit

With the convention starting Tuesday, Democrats will use this morning’s shows to introduce fresh, exciting young leaders like David Axelrod, David Plouffe, and Bill Richardson. Mayors Rahm Emanuel and Antonio Villaraigosa will be on too to explain how their cities and home states became the astonishing fiscal successes that America will try to emulate if Obama wins a second term.

Martin O’Malley, who passes these days for a dynamic next-generation Democratic political star, will appear as well. The line-up via WaPo:

NBC’s Meet the Press: Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel; Newt Gingrich; Carly Fiorina, former CEO of Hewlett-Packard; Doris Kearns Goodwin, presidential historian; Tom Friedman, New York Times; Tom Brokaw, NBC

CBS’ Face the Nation: Gov. Martin O’Malley (D-MD); former Gov. Bill Richardson (D-NM); Obama campaign manager Stephanie Cutter; Dan Balz, Washington Post; Trish Regan, Bloomberg TV; Michael Eric Dyson, Georgetown University; John Dickerson, CBS News

ABC’s This Week: David Plouffe, White House senior adviser; George Will, ABC News; Bill Burton, Priorities USA; former Gov. Kerry Healey (R-MA); Donna Brazile, political consultant; Matthew Dowd, political consultant

Fox News Sunday: David Axelrod, Obama campaign senior adviser; Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa; Brit Hume, Fox News; Kirsten Powers, The Daily Beast; Bill Kristol, Weekly Standard; Jeff Zeleny, New York Times

CNN’s State of the Union with Candy Crowley: Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa; Gov. Bev Perdue (D-NC); Gov. Martin O’Malley (D-MD); Robert Gibbs, Obama campaign senior adviser; Jessica Yellin, CNN; Dan Balz, Washington Post

Nice to see such a powerful list of Romney surrogates out to deflect all the trash coming at the campaign today… oh, wait, nevermind

gatorboy on September 2, 2012 at 11:20 AM

After all and as Obama said, why should a woman be ‘punished’ with a baby?

Liam on September 2, 2012 at 11:20 AM

Giving Villaraigosa a speaking slot at the convention must be the single biggest idiocy by the obama camp…. The man is notoriously inept, mocked by both those on the right and on the left in the californian media…besides he’s the mayor of a failed and near bankrupt city, why advertise this at your major event..their stupidity knows margin..

I put a lawn chair out in my front yard this morning with a R&R sign taped to it.

The libtard across the street has already threatened to call our home owners association.

He doesn’t realise the entire board are Republicans.

I was thinking the same thing. Romney’s gang went AWOL.

But, I got to witness Newt eviscerating Gregory and his people again, and Ms. Fiorina talk against the whole “monolithic women vote”.

The DNC in Charlotte is gonna be a celebration of hate and abortion.

Remember Jeff Greenfield? I was watching PBS and saw him do a report this morning on OHIO and the importance in the Presidential race, that he, I would assume, would say was perfectly balanced.

Number of Democrat state party heads interviewed (for a lengthy time I might add): 1
Number of Republican state party heads interviewed: 0
Number of citizen “canvass workers” interviewed: 2 Democrat. 0 Republican.
Number of “Democrat leaning voters” interviewed: 2 “Republican leaning” : 0.

It was a damn informercial.

My comment!

Tom Friedman said, this morning, that he agreed with pres obama’s position on abortion – right up to the night before the baby is due. How soon will it be that is the 1st month after birth? Some liberal scientists have advocated up to the 1st year after birth.

If you don’t know that the baby is delivered feet first so that before the head emerges a knife is stuck up the back of the spine into the head and the cord is severed. OK, I feel just sick even thinking about it. Imagine a mother allowing that to be done to her child? Do I think we will have much to answer for? Damn betcha!

I just can’t believe that late term abortions are in the dem plank and they think it is just fine.
I don’t care if you are for abortion in the first 3 months, how can you even contenance this type of murder?
Shame on the dems and shame on mothers who allow this?

I lived in a private community one time. Never again; too many busybodies who think their personal ignorance is the letter and spirit of the law.

Can you maybe get a bigger lawn chair and/or sign?

Is it true that Mitt Rommey failed to mention the troops or the war in Afghanistan once in his speech? Hawkdriver….thoughts?

libfreeordie on September 2, 2012 at 9:19 AM

And why would you care, liveasaslaveanddie?

You just consider the troops as instruments of the colonial oppressor.
And – except for their use as a leftist talking point – you couldn’t care less about their deaths.
You’re just a typical leftist hypocrite.

But your yammering does make the affirmative action committee feel a bit better about spending money on you.

The Dems do tend to concentrate on certainties like death and taxes. If they don’t kill you before you get here they’ll get the job done later with Obamacare and then tax the hell out of any inheritance you might leave.

I’m aware of that, but they can’t have the head first or it will be a live birth. As long as the head isn’t out, it’s an abortion!!!!
Go figure!
It makes me so sad for this culture that we can look at that and not be sick!

Strange is an understatement…The Los Angeles Magazine featured him on their June cover with a big caption on his pic: FAILURE..and LA Magazien as as proggie as it gets..and then there’s that notorious exchange e between a known LA KBCA radio host, Doug McIntyre (proggie, too) who confronted and mocked DWS for their choice of Villaraigosa to speak at the convention…here’s the transcript of that exchage from mediaite…not aure if the audio is there too, but The Democrtaic Underground has it here

Have fun sith it…as I said, Tony V is the but of all jokes locally, left and right…

Since the thread I posted on is about to dissappear into the headline archive:

I just can’t believe that late term abortions are in the dem plank and they think it is just fine.

I am somewhat certain that Democrats only support late-term abortions if the fetus has died in the womb or if giving birth would be deadly to the mother. Is your argument that both should die?

libfreeordie on September 2, 2012 at 11:42 AM

OK, so I lost most of my comments.
No,they approve up until the baby is due.
Besides a baby who has died in the womb is not considered an abortion.
Man maybe you should read up on obama vetoing a bill that said a dr had to deliver life saving service to a baby born alive of a botched abortion. They were putting a baby in a closet, in the dark, alone to cry until it died.
You find the nurse who testified that she would hold the baby and rock them, and cry with them until they died, and you will hear a powerful testimony!
Shame, Shame, shame!
I lost this part:
My brother was an obgyn. In the small town he practiced in-there was a Catholic hospital. They wanted him to sign a statement that the baby was the one to save if it became a choice. He refused, they still allowed him to deliver and it never came to that. He also refused to perform any abortion.
No the mother should not die. lib whatever, you need to see what you are advocating!

libfreeordie on September 2, 2012 at 9:19 AM

Ah, I see Axelrod’s new Talking Point has wings. In fact, I just did a Google search on the keywords “Romney didn’t mention Afghanistan in his speech.”

I got over 32 million results.

Looks like CNN is the primary cheerleader.

Please flog this angle. It proves O’bama and his Puppeteers know he has absolutely nothing else to run on, so they and he will have to desperately cling to any distraction they can find between now and November to try and make people forget about how horribly they have “managed” the US economy.

Even CNN admitted as much:

Unlike previous elections, foreign policy and national security are not considered top issues for voters, who overwhelmingly rate the economy as their top issue. While Romney makes mention of foreign policy briefly at campaign stops, including blasting the president for what he calls defense cuts, his stump speech and overall message are almost entirely based on improving America’s economy.

By the way, Romney did mention Afghanistan in a speech just the day before his RNC speech. CNN:

Romney’s speech Wednesday in Indianapolis was before a much smaller crowd, both in person and on television, than his convention address. Romney’s speech in Tampa, Florida, formally accepting the Republican presidential nomination, was viewed by an estimated 30 million Americans, according to Nielsen.

In his speech to the American Legion, Romney made brief mention of Afghanistan, including citing uniformed Americans serving there. The core of his speech, however, was impassioned criticism of President Barack Obama’s foreign policy, which Romney said was apologetic and weak.

Del Dolemonte on September 2, 2012 at 2:21 PM

I don’t understand the logic that says that if a pregnant woman is murdered and the fetus dies with her, the perp can be charged with two crimes, but if the woman decides to terminant the pregnancy herself, no crime is involved.

Then there’s also the question of whether unborn children have inheritance rights — they used to, but that law may have changed.

polarglen on September 2, 2012 at 2:26 PM

Pretty much what you’d expect:

Doris Kearns Goodwin channeling Paul Harvey to make the “point” that pigeons flying out of the Liberty Bell during the 1948 DNC Convention would have been a bigger story than Clint addressing the empty chair if only Twitter had been around.

Kept “man” Tom Friedman spewing his usual Chicken Little hyperbole over the emergency need for “clean” energy subsidies lest the world come to an end tomorrow as a result of our failure to submit to government bureaucrats. Oh, and getting those Labor Day weekend Sunday drinking games started up with the “take a shot each time Friedman says ‘Grand Bargain’” warmups.

Fossilized hack Tom Brokaw taking a break from his applesauce to lie about the Janesville plant closing…unopposed, of course.

I didn’t tune in to watch the Mayor of Murder Capital USA nor did I wait around to watch B.F. Chuck Todd carry the water for the Sandra Flukers. Yawn.

fitzfong on September 2, 2012 at 2:28 PM

Hey, let’s have a quick look at the state of “journalism” in American news media:

NBC: D; R; R; D; kook-D; D (No, asswipes, Tom Brokaw is not an independent journalist; he’s a liberal Democrat).

CBS: Kook-D; D; Kook-D; D; Kook-D(yson); D; and I do not know this Trish Regan.

ABC: Kook-D; R; Kook-D; R; D; R.

Fox News: D; D; R; D; R; Kook-D

CNN: D; D; D; D; D; D

Add in the moderators: D, D, D, I, D and you have an impressively one-sided look at the DNC this week:

D – 20
Kooks – 7
R – 7
Other – 2

Wow…27 ranging from partisan Dem to Kook-Left-Fringe and 7 Republicans of any kind. Special recognition to CBS and CNN for a uniform slate of Dems. “For the convention”, I’m sure.
