Rising GOP star: Mia Love is in the house
posted at 8:17 pm on August 28, 2012 by Erika Johnsen
The theme of tonight’s convention session at the RNC is “We Built It”, and rising conservative star Mia Love helped get the lineup of speakers off to a great start and showed ‘em how it’s done with a brief spotlight speech focusing on the American dream and self-reliance. Love, the current mayor of Saratoga Springs, is running for the U.S. House of Representatives out of Utah, and she’s in the midst of a tight race against incumbent Democrat Rep. Jim Matheson — if she wins, she’ll be the first black Republican woman elected to the Congress. She had some fightin’ words for President Obama in her speech tonight, and the crowd went wild with a very warm reception for her. Are we looking at the next tea-party rockstar, perhaps?
The money line: “Mr. President, I’m here to tell you that the American people are awake, and we’re not buying what you’re selling in 2012.” Bam.
