Rising GOP star: Mia Love is in the house

posted at 8:17 pm on August 28, 2012 by Erika Johnsen

The theme of tonight’s convention session at the RNC is “We Built It”, and rising conservative star Mia Love helped get the lineup of speakers off to a great start and showed ‘em how it’s done with a brief spotlight speech focusing on the American dream and self-reliance. Love, the current mayor of Saratoga Springs, is running for the U.S. House of Representatives out of Utah, and she’s in the midst of a tight race against incumbent Democrat Rep. Jim Matheson — if she wins, she’ll be the first black Republican woman elected to the Congress. She had some fightin’ words for President Obama in her speech tonight, and the crowd went wild with a very warm reception for her. Are we looking at the next tea-party rockstar, perhaps?

The money line: “Mr. President, I’m here to tell you that the American people are awake, and we’re not buying what you’re selling in 2012.” Bam.

Why are GOP women so much more attractive, so much more whole people than their Dem counterparts? I had not heard of Mia Love before tonight but I suspect this is not the last time we will hear of her!

BTW, the GOP is doing a great job of getting shots of the full range of Republicans. And as I post this, Kasich is speaking and darned if Republicans don’t know how to spell Ohio.

JusDreamin on August 28, 2012 at 8:35 PM

I would tend to agree but with a caveat.

I had a female pastor who went to seminary at Princeton for a year. She quickly discovered that to fit in there you needed to have a “cause.” It wasn’t enough to just be studying for the ministry, you had to hate some variety of “social injustice” as well.

I think that Republican women are whole people who care about their families and are normal people. They don’t have a cause as much as they do a vision for America. Democrat women tend to be elected on single issues and, if not, get roped into a very narrow ideology once they get to Congress. I think they truly are pissed off because they are not able to be whole people.

Happy Nomad on August 28, 2012 at 8:48 PM
