The Republican National Convention kicks off

posted at 3:21 pm on August 27, 2012 by Erika Johnsen

TAMPA, Fla. — Huzzah! Good afternoon from the Tampa Bay Times Forum, home of the 2012 Republican National Convention. It’s been kind of a weird, patchy day weather-wise here (an odd mix of sunshine and tornado warnings?) but looks like Isaac is shooting past us — we’re praying for those who are still in the storm’s path, but things are on schedule to get underway here tomorrow afternoon, when the official nominations and speakers will get started. Unfortunate that we’re missing out on a full day of the planned festivities, but you can check out the revised schedule here, and here’s a quick glimpse of the arena, bird’s-eye-view style:

IMG-20120826-00057

And one more with a little action, for good measure:

Untitled

There was just a quick official session inside the arena this afternoon, with delegates milling around and filing into their seats for the convention’s opener. RNC Chairman Reince Priebus gaveled the convention in: “It is my privilege to proclaim the 2012 Republican National Convention in session and called to order. …We want to draw your attention to the unprecedented fiscal recklessness of the Obama administration.”

Observe: In one corner, we’ve got the national debt clock (well on it’s way to $16 trillion, yipee)…

Untitled

And in the other, a clock that’s going to display the federal debt we’ve accrued, just from the start of the convention. Good idea, right?

Untitled

Priebus smacked the gavel not even an hour ago, and the clock has already hit $119 million. Again… yipee. All the more reason to get revved up for the convention’s proceedings — and it looks like they’re definitely ready to have some fun!

Keep your eyes open folks, there are many groups planning bad things for the GOP convention… New Black Panther Terrorist Organization, The Obama Occutards, and Ron Paul’s Ronulans will all be looking for a chance to cause trouble.

Rest in Peace, and may God embrace you Neil Armstrong.

What’s the plan for today? They keep changing so many things because of Issac, I can’t keep track. BTW, I live in tornado alley and a ‘Tornado Warning’ is when there’s an actual funnel cloud or a tornado on the ground. Are you sure this is a ‘Tornado Watch’, Ed?

It is indeed sobering to think that we can run up more debt in 3 hours than the total value of Alex Rodriguez’s 10-year Yankees contract ($300 million), the largest in baseball history.

Pray that these weak-kneed GOP officials press forward w Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday — MSM setting up demand to CANCEL Tuesday due to a Category 1 storm.

GOP was completely punked on Saturday into cancelling Monday night.

Any weather experts: Isaac appears to be turning further west — west beyond New Orleans – is this jog significant? Can a storm just hang around the Gulf directionless for a few days?

matthew8787 on August 27, 2012 at 3:32 PM

If the center (eye) of Isaac passed to the west of New Orleans, its impact on New Orleans would be worse than if it passed to the east. If the eye passes to the east, storm winds are out of the north, pushing Gulf water out, and New Orleans is only exposed to water from Lake Pontchartrain. If the eye passes to the west, storm winds would be out of the southeast, pushing Gulf water up the Mississippi River, which would be much more dangerous.

Palin Hints at Formation of Third Party

Sunday, 26 Aug 2012 01:31 PM

By Patrick Hobin

Sarah Palin said history could repeat itself and a third party could be created if Republicans don’t adhere to their principles, Fox News reported.

When asked on Fox News if she would consider creating a third party, the former Alaska governor and 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee said, “If history is an indication it is a possibility. If the Republicans don’t remember what the planks in the platform represent . . . That is opportunity to prosper and thrive in the most exceptional nation in the world.”

She added that “we do that through a free market. If the Republicans become like the liberal left and Democrats, I wouldn’t be surprised if history didn’t repeat itself.”

Palin drew a comparison to the Whig Party, saying, “Look what happened in the mid 1800’s. The Whig party went away and the Republican Party surfaced,” she explained. “Because the electorate got sick and tired of the party fighting for power and not doing the will of the people.”

She described the tea party movement as a “grassroot of independent Americans. They know that they are taxed enough already. They want to shrink government and make it smarter and make it as less relevant to us in our lives as possible.”

Palin will be in Gilbert, Ariz., on Monday to show support for Republican congressional hopeful Kirk Adams and to stump for incumbent GOP congressmen Jeff Flake and Paul Gosar, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Following this morning’s blow up by Chris Matthews during a segment with RNC Chair Reince Priebus on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Priebus spoke with a small group of reporters inside the Google Lounge at the convention center and offered his reaction, throwing out the term “biggest jerk.”

TheBlaze was on hand and asked the question, “Mr. Chairman, on Chris Matthews… when you went to commercial after the conflict with Chris Matthews, was there anything said between the two of you? Did you shake hands? Was there a hug?

Mr. Priebus answered the question fully for TheBlaze, and delivered one of the classic lines from the convention today:

“When someone wants to take the prize of being the biggest jerk in the room, he made the case for us.”

Priebus also said the the two shook hands and that someone from MSNBC had been trying to call him all day, possibly to make amends. And while he said no amends was needed, he did refer to Matthews as an Obama “surrogate.”

But he wasn’t done there. After mentioning that hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski were unhappy with Matthews, he took a parting shot, saying that if “more than ten people actually watched his show I’d actually care.”

After our question and a follow up about future appearances on MSNBC, we informed the chairman that his MSNBC segment was the #1 story on TheBlaze today.

He smiled. Source

Conservatives of all stripes, especially Tea Party activists, this is an attempt to destroy your ability to influence the presidential and vice presidential nomination process in the Republican Party. It is an attempt to eviscerate the input of state parties. It is a brazen assault on the grassroots. And it is sleazy to the core.

If I didn’t know better, I’d think Obama was behind it. Instead, Romney’s operatives are orchestrating it.

You’re an idiot.

Your inability to form any kind of sound judgement renders tour insult the same as shooting blanks, stupid clinger. Make sure you stay bitter, life will not improve for you, loser.

The post was directed at SWalker, but having to directly identify him as a stupid and bitter loser is redundant and unnecessary.

You’re are still an idiot, I’m neither bitter nor a clinger, not that you have the two braincells required to figure that out.

SWalker on August 27, 2012 at 7:13 PM

SWalker on August 27, 2012 at 7:13 PM

If I only have one brain cell, that will be one more than you have.

If you are not bitter, you should be. There is a lot that you ought to be bitter about, starting with, and not ending with: no, your life and circumstances will never get better. Of course, to mount that kind of emotional reaction requires insight and recognition, which you decidedly do not have, looking at the moronic level you display.

ROTFLMAO… Oh please do go on… There is something genuinely comical about watching a fool flounder around like a monkey drowning in a vat of his own $hit. I’m a retired Rock Star, it really would be hard for my life to get any better.

So you took my earlier advice and look at the mirror at yourself.

I’m a retired Rock Star, it really would be hard for my life to get any better.

SWalker on August 27, 2012 at 7:43 PM

You were, and still is a rock, but that is referring to your smarts.

“Star”, is highly debatable.

Retired : like “over the hill”? Bitter some? So I was not wrong, your life and circumstances will not be getting any better.

Well, you have given yourself a couple of pretty nasty black eyes, so yea, it kind of does look like you have been hitting a turbo moron.

I am so glad that you have the minimal self recognition to acknowledge that you are a turbo moron, so your IQ might be higher than your shoe size after all.

Wow, when you double down on the stupid, you don’t phuck around do you. Do you have a loom that you weave on, whole cloth much? Honestly I would have expected an imbecile of your caliber to get at least one thing right, even though it would have to be entirely on accident.

SWalker on August 27, 2012 at 8:36 PM

SWalker on August 27, 2012 at 8:36 PM

When did I double down on you?

You might not be lying by claiming you are a washed up note clanger. You write like a junior high school drop out, drug damaged on top of that.

Anyway, I have wasted enough time on a loser like you. And responding to you is like beating on a feeble minded child. So I am signing off from carrying this further, at the risk of sinking you further into deeper delusion, thinking you have the last word.

You did not win the argument just now, and at your level of competency, it is hard to see you can ever convince anyone with your fringe ideology, nor win an argument with anyone on any subject.

Don Quixote is comical. You, on the other hand, is laughable.
