Open thread: Sunday morning talking heads

posted at 8:01 am on August 26, 2012 by Allahpundit

GOP heavy hitters galore this morning to mark the start of the convention tomorrow. CBS has Marco Rubio and Haley Barbour, CNN has Scott Walker, NBC has Jeb Bush, and Fox News has the nominee himself. And for the Democrats? Antonio Villaraigosa, Debbie Downer, and that’s pretty much it. I like these odds.

Over/under on the number of minutes devoted to Romney’s Birther joke across the five major shows today: 60. The line-up via WaPo:

Fox News Sunday: Live reporting from the GOP convention and interviews with Mitt and Ann Romney from New Hampshire and the campaign trail.

NBC’s Meet the Press: Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush; Sen. John McCain (R-AZ); DNC Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-DL); Arizona Governor Jan Brewer; Mike Murphy, Republican Strategist; Chuck Todd, NBC

CBS’ Face the Nation: Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL); Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN); former Gov. Haley Barbour (R-MS); RNC Chairman Reince Priebus; Dan Balz, Washington Post; Peggy Noonan, Wall Street Journal; Norah O’Donnell, CBS; John Dickerson, CBS and Slate

ABC’s This Week: Gov. Bob McDonnell (R-VA); Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa; George Will, ABC; Rep. Donna Edwards (D-MD); Jennifer Granholm, Current TV; Republican strategist Mary Matalin; Greta Van Susteren, Fox News

CNN’s State of the Union with Candy Crowley: RNC Chairman Reince Priebus; Gov. Scott Walker (R-WI); Al Cardenas, American Conservative Union; Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX); Gov. Martin O’Malley (D-MD); Ron Brownstein, National Journal and CNN; Karen Tumulty, Washington Post

When I watch Candy Crowley I still wonder how she got to be one of the inquisitors, I mean moderators, at the debates. She goes after Reince Priebus about the birth certificate remark, completely forgetting about the series of dog jokes Obama made. Priebus even brought up Obama’s jokes and she said, “That’s different.” I’m really sick of the MSM and their “that’s different” stuff. Every time Obama jokes about a dog, he’s avoiding talking about the issues. Every time the MSM brings up the birth certificate, they’re avoiding talking about the issues.

I just popped over to Mediate, it seems Jeb Bush is all concerned about the Republican tone? What is wrong with this man?

I watched Gregory and Wallace this morning. Gregory was same as usual — shilling for the DNC and Obama. He kept yammering on about the polls showing how far ahead of Romney Obama was in certain areas. Divide and conquer seemed to be his objective.

I certainly enjoyed Wallace’s interview with Mitt and Ann Romney, and he certainly struck the right note by pointing out that the Romneys have no servants at the vacation home. I was, however, uncomfortable with the setting. I could just hear the DNC propaganda writing itself: elitist, expensive second home, totally divorced from ordinary people, et cet. But then I remembered the Kennedy compound. How many houses? Vetoing the wind farm because it would ruin their view?

I couldn’t help laughing at Debbie. Someone must have drilled and drilled her on the Democrat talking points. She was a good little puppet regurgitating the party line.

I’m watching FNS right now and Huckabee is on the panel talking about how we should be having a national conversation on abortion this election. Mike Huckabee is an excellent panderer, but a terrible political strategist, and an even worse leader for a movement.

So nobody even remotely neutral asking questions for the debates. Romulan Romney better make sure that he”s likable because none of the questions will be about the economy and Obama will be up there laughing and smiling with the moderators, probably saying ‘we should talk about that later” and the mods will nod robo-like before shooting lasers at Romney for their next question about the name of the trade minister in Algeria. TRICK QUESTION. Before or after the uprising.

Yeah, I won’t be watching the blood bath. Just like I won’t be watching the sunday shows or the convention coverage. Its the same old stuff. Reporter says to Romney’s surrogate “Obama staff says the sky is orange and its because of oil usage & it will take 10 years of windmill energy to clean it to yellow” – Where do you even start?
