Busted: “Republican” woman in Obama ad has been a registered Democrat since 2006; Update: Another?

posted at 1:01 pm on August 25, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

Via Drudge, the inevitable finish for an ad for a President whose track record on vetting and research has been all too vividly featured in our Obamateurism series.  Earlier this week, Team Obama stepped up its War On Wimminses strategy with this ad, featuring women who identify as Republican but  who intend to vote for Barack Obama in 2012.  However, as the old Sesame Street song used to go, at least one of these women are not like the other:

Maria Ciano who is featured in the web video has been a registered Democrat since October 2006 according to voter registration records.

“People like me and my family have realized that the Republican Party once was inline with our views, but are no longer,” the Colorado resident says in the video.

It’s certainly possible that Ms. Ciano had at one time been Republican.  Her conversion to Democrat had nothing to do with Mitt Romney, or even Barack Obama, however.  And it’s difficult to ascertain exactly what about Romney would have driven the rest of them off, either.  One woman cites Romney’s desire to see Roe overturned, as if she’s never heard that argument in the four decades that Republicans have been making it.  George W. Bush made it just as much of an issue when running for President, if not more; every Republican nominee for President since Reagan has taken that position, as have most of the candidates who failed to get the nomination.  This must be one of the most low-information groups of voters ever featured in a national campaign.

It’s easy to understand why Team Obama wants to run a Republican Women for Obama ad.  Is it too much to ask that they check first to see if the women are actually Republican first?

Update: John Hinderaker delves a little deeper:

Her Facebook page is here; some of her friends congratulate her on appearing in the Obama ad. In addition to the fact that she is a registered Democrat, check out her Facebook “likes.” They make it obvious that Ms. Ciano is a devoted Democrat and a left-wing activist. Here are some of her “likes,” beginning with the earliest in time:

* Democracy For America
* Tar Sands Action
* Amy Goodman
* Barack Obama
* Costoftaxcuts.com
* Being Liberal
* MoveOn.org
* Bernie Sanders Tells You A Secret the GOP Would Rather You Didn’t Know
* Miss Piggy Delivers the Best Takedown of Fox News We’ve Seen All Month
* Think Progress
* The Best Quote From Barack Obama We’ve Seen This Week
* Dow and Monsanto Join Forces to Poison America’s Heartland
* Climate Reality
* Grist.org
* The Amazing Victory Scored With Obama That More People Should Be Talking About
* The Sierra Club
* The Buffett Rule
* Obama For America–Colorado
* UniteWomen.org
* Denver Young Democrats
* Obamacare
* Latinos For Obama
* Michelle Obama
* Veterans For Obama
* I Love It When I Wake Up In the Morning and Obama Is President
* Obama Truth Team
* Democratic Party

Yeah, I know a lot of Republicans who like to join MoveOn, Think Progress, and Climate Reality (and who listen to avowed socialist Bernie Sanders).  Seriously — did Team Obama think that no one would look at Ciano’s Facebook page?

Update II: At the same link, John says another of the women — Ms. Ciano’s mother — appears to be an unlikely Republican. He’s working on checking out the rest oon Facebook.

I’m shocked. Shocked, I tell you.

kingsjester on August 25, 2012 at 6:10 PM

Why surprised? Our President advertised himself for years as having been born in Kenya. Obama is a projection of stories, lies and “rhetorical flourish.” Organizations assume the character of the leader. Obama’s supporters and campaign people are merely following dear leader’s guidance and example…

..this has been now become a standard misrepresentation terchnique of the lunatic-left. Remember how sandra (the socialist sl^t) fluke was initially introduced as just a poor, humble college student (who was just boinking her way through school)?

Something tells me Maria Ciano never even thought about being a Republican.

Barack Obama – the only President that can make Jimmy Carter look smart and Bill Clinton look truthful (by comparison).

They’re staying as FAR away from Obama’s record as they can, clutching at fake disappointed women GOP voters, Romney’s tax returns, Seamus, Bain, Romney’s tax returns, Seamus, Bain…ANYthing to distract people away from the President’s failed policies.

The actual truth or falsity of any individual item/pixel/cell of an advertisement or e-mail is IRRELEVANT, what IS relevant is that Romney is a Republican extremist, who tortures dogs and hasn’t paid his taxes. It is whether of not the advertisement or e-mail makes that point clear that determines whether it is true or not, not the actual facts or quotes or persons cited IN the advertisement or e-mail.

This may be difficult for you mouth-breathing wingnutz from Jesus Land to grasp…next time I’ll type s*l*o*w*e*r and use smaller words.

Okay, okay – but it’s a tough call if you have already prostituted yourself, right?

Will you stop already? Damn!

You already won the thread with this one!

Seriously, you ought to send it over to Mark Steyn at NRO — they take forever to “moderate” comments there, but Mark may want to think twice about his “threat” earlier today to put in an appearance in a “black cocktail dress,” after seeing that one!

Oh, man! I honestly haven’t had this much fun since the Kerry Campaign back in 2004. Only, I really think these Obama clowns are much worse.

For example, you couldn’t make up a character like Stephanie Cutter, and have people believe it could happen.

Yes, it is funny that the Obama campaign was caught red handed in another blatent lie, but how embarrassing is it for these women and their families. Not only have they exposed themselves to the world as dishonest people, but they are exactly the opposite of what the ad potrays them to be, thoughtful women who converted to Obama supporters through thoughtful consideration. Indeed they are the stupid people that the Obama campaign is counting on that are incapable of critical thought and merely parrot what some leftist tells them.

Oh I don’t know . . . you suppose they may well have been compensated for their appearances in the ad? If so, they the got what was coming to them. If not, then you are right — they were dupes for an Obama campaign scam.

Based on the evidence she foolishly posted on FaceBook — i.e., having been an invitee back on August 11th to a campaign appearance with Michelle — Delia gives every indication of having been a political operative.

Of course, if a reporter follows up and writes a story about it, then they will be embarrassed. But what are the chances of that?

Nothing these “people” are doing can surprise me anymore. What really bugs me is how stupid they are and they think we are even more stupid than they are. Don’t they realize yet that with a few keystrokes we can find anything on the internet. We can find out the truth without even breaking a sweat. They should just stop believing they are so superior to us and understand that we have come into the 21st century too. We also have computers and smartphones and know how to use them. And we will be using them to discredit their lies every time.

One has to remember this: it isn’t important to be truthful when you are making a larger point…or something like that! I learned that from Obama’s books dontcha know.

RedLadyBlueState on August 25, 2012 at 11:09 PM

You know, there are some Republicans who voted for Obama before and others – fewer, but they are there – who will this time. It wouldn’t have been all that hard to find a few to have in the commercial.

But I bet Obama’s campaign never even tried. They just lie as a default, they understand that anyone smart enough to see through the blatant lies is either never going to vote for him anyway or is already a committed Marxist who hates America and wants to help Obama take her down a few pegs.

Adjoran on August 25, 2012 at 11:14 PM

b) an avowed member of Socialists for Obama.

arand on August 26, 2012 at 10:00 AM

I may have a little different view than most conservatives, but I personally think some of these people have a valid point on abortion. When I look at them and listen to their ideas, I’m really not sure they should even be allowed to reproduce. Besides, how many generations would it take to get rid of them if we actually encouraged leftists to kill their kids. That does not mean we’d have to kill ours.

MikeA on August 26, 2012 at 10:24 AM

My view. Government get the hell out of our private lives. Strike any and all abortion laws. Let free enterprise and let individual’s decide on what they require. At the very least, the federal government should have no say, yes or no, to abortion and let the States decide. Woman rights is a joke, they already have all the rights of a man without a special separatist law, which is really not about woman’s right but about abortion, lets call it what it is. Example: where were the woman’s rights advocates about Gov. Sarah Palin’s right to decide on her birth of Trig?
