New Obama ad: If you’re a woman who favors small government, you should really vote Obama

posted at 4:56 pm on August 24, 2012 by Erika Johnsen

Warning: These are two-and-a-half of some of the more deeply aggravating minutes though which I have ever forced myself to sit. Steel yourselves.

In case you’re just not finding the fortitude it takes to watch this sucker (a sentiment with which, I assure you, you’d have complete sympathy from this girl), here’s the rundown: Women of various age-ethnicity-background diversities testify that they have been longtime Republican voters, but that in recent years, something’s up with the Republican party. It’s gotten so darn extreme, what with their crazy statist views on contraception and abortion, and not wanting equal pay for women. There are just so few “moderate” Republicans left. If you’re a conservative women, and you believe in small government, Barack Obama is your candidate, because “he’s keeping the government out of decisions that should remain between you and God and you and your own conscience.”

Just take a second and wrap your head around that. If you’re a woman and you believe in small government, Barack Obama is your guy. …The mind reels.

First of all, equal pay for women? That ship has sailed, and how! Please stop making a federal case out of non-issue that only perpetuates stereotypes and limitations.

Secondly, small government? President Obama has put the expansion of both our federal government and our federal debt on steroids, and ObamaCare is the biggest overstep into everybody’s health-care decisions in the history of the United States. And honestly now, enough is enough with the damned lie that conservatives want to get “statist” with contraception — you can have all the contraception you want, I just don’t want to be forced to pay for your contraception. It’s your business. Democrats are very clearly the party affording the federal government greater authority in people’s private decisions of late, not the other way around.

Thirdly, the fact that they’re trying to make “women’s issues” a deciding factor in this presidential race — so suddenly crucial that’s it’s ostensibly worthy of a party-switcheroo — is utterly galling. In the face of our wretched economy and all of President Obama’s failed policies across all spheres, they’re trying to scare women into thinking that those extremist Republicans want force them all back to the days of Puritanism. If that isn’t a testament to how laughably little the Democrats really have to go on this time around, I don’t know what is.

I find it hard to believe that encouraging promiscuity and abortions is “caring about women”.

Yet, many women … and men … think it is.

targeting the pro-choice republican women still out there, using the recent negativity as a context.
will it work? maybe. the dems must have their hands on some data to be spending money on this.
I blame the tent shrinking operations of recent years.

Darn thing is, that’s probably how dems/ some indies felt about our ad in the same vein.

Was stunned to see one of Barky’s commercials, attacking Romney, on local TV last night, here in V*E*R*M*O*N*T! Are they really spending money for airtime in this blue, blue state? (Hope so…)

bofh on August 24, 2012 at 5:22 PM

O might be thinking that if they lose key swing states, and the electoral college, BUT they win the popular vote percentage, that would make a good pretense to declare that democracy failed, and to declare himself the winner with an executive order, and see if he can by force of diktat make that stand. GHWB said “this will not stand.” We’ll see.
Nevertheless, I advise Mitt to make more national ad buys. A rising tide will lift all boat, even the swing boats. Plus, national ad buys will affect the national conversation, so that will rub off on the swing states. Go national more. Especially with Mitt’s ultra-effective Mediscare ad!!! Tee it up.

I wonder if a little “investigation” would show if these women were former Republicans? Usually they becomes an Independent or Libertarian. Hard to believe they would go so far as to become a Dem.

sandee on August 24, 2012 at 5:11 PM

On the Akin threads the other day, there were people who claimed to be ‘conservative’ – but were now, because of Akin, going to vote for McCaskill. So, there are stupid Republicans.

Solaratov on August 24, 2012 at 5:53 PM

I started to think this ad was a fantasy, that these people, these “Republicans” are figments… then, you know, with Akin, I’m thinking this is possibly an effective ad. It’s a web ad, though. Still, the sentiments expressed, like on Roe vs Wade etc, are real, and WILL work against us to turn some votes to Obama. Do whatever we can to counter or soften the edge of those feelings.

anotherJoe on August 24, 2012 at 5:10 PM

Exactly the problem and the format of youtube is a social media which we women love – it will be shared through facebook whether we are Tea Partiers or SoCons or Rinos or Obama lovers since we’re in other groups and friends with diverse people. WE WILL SEE IT and the tag Republican women for Obama and it will intrigue us to watch it. Then it will hook some because we don’t want to be associated with the Akin slime. They put this out there for the weekend when we do have time to Facebook. Well played Team O. But Akin is sitting at 38% and saying they’re going to win. Good luck w/that! Another thread has MO going from pro-Romney to pro-Obama because of Akin. He’s the BP slime gift that keeps on giving.

Lester those that don’t know what happens during abortions and the consultation shouldn’t comment on them..

The reality is that most abortion patients do receive an ultrasound to date their pregnancies. Since most abortions take place in the first trimester of pregnancy, many of these ultrasounds are performed with a transvaginal probe, the most effective method for viewing early-stage pregnancies. In the end, whether an ultrasound is performed, and which method is used, reflects either the practice of the abortion provider, the patient’s medical history, or—for a relatively small number of women—an aversion to the transvaginal method. Most of the time, however, the transvaginal ultrasound is a useful and common tool that helps providers perform abortions safely and well.

But I have considerable concerns about what calling these ultrasounds “rape” and “unnecessary” will mean for abortion patients and providers. Count to 10 on August 24, 2012 at 6:45 PM

This exactly!

Oh and Lester just a statement from Virginia Planned Parenthood:

“Patients who have a surgical abortion generally come in for two appointments. At the first visit we do a health assessment, perform all the necessary lab work, and do an ultrasound. This visit generally takes about an hour. At the second visit, the procedure takes place. This visit takes about an hour as well. For out of town patients for whom it would be difficult to make two trips to our office, we’re able to schedule both the initial appointment and the procedure on the same day.

Medical abortions generally require three visits. At the first visit, we do a health assessment, perform all the necessary lab work, and do an ultrasound. This visit takes about an hour. At the second visit, the physician gives the first pill and directions for taking two more pills at home. The third visit is required during which you will have an exam and another ultrasound.”

I just spent a week traveling and talking with a whole bunch of Republican women, and not a one of them thinks this campaign is anything but BS. Most of them have daughters too.

All this stuff might have been effective if somehow Republicans had actually passed a bill in Congress restricting abortion or making contraception illegal, and only Barack Obama’s veto stopped it from becoming law. But that isn’t the case, and women know it – especially Republican women!

I spent the last two days in northern Virginia, and while I didn’t see this ad, I did see the other abortion ad several times.

The women in this ad should each have a visit from a seasoned, battle tested active duty member of the US Armed Forces for a stern lecture about the liberties that are being eroded by Obama, notwithstanding that Romney is the true left leaning moderate that they seem to prefer.

I’m not aware the Republican party has changed its position on right to life or Rov v Wade. I’m not aware that contraception has ever been an issue (except, perhaps, with the advent of abortifacients). In this day and age, equal pay for women is a non-issue, a phony issue, a manufactured issue (Dems are good at those). And while there are any number of Beltway Republicans who champion big government, they are beginning to understand that either we will drag them kicking and screaming to the side of constitutionally limited government, or we will do our darnedest to remove and replace them. Obama and the Democrats–fugetaboutit. There’s barely a moderate Democrat left in the House. Blue Dogs are an endangered species.

These woman are just plain silly and not to be taken seriously. “Limited government” to them means that government won’t interfere with their personal “choices” while to us it means government is limited in its size, reach and cost. How remarkable they don’t seem to recognize how much the government already interferes with our day-to-day decisions and activities, always at the ready with a rule or regulation or tax. How bewildering they don’t seem to understand that the federal government has succeeded in tethering future generations to debt and obligation that can’t be satisfied by the combined wealth of the entire planet. These women are fools.

Ronald Reagan seems to be remembered fondly. Perhaps they’ve forgotten that Reagan opposed both abortion and the Equal Rights Amendment.

Let’s see….Hum…. uh, NO!

Face recognition software has identified this woman as Barack Obama’s 3rd cousin on his mother’s side twice removed (I think we all know why……)

If you are a woman and enjoy forced trans-vaginal ultrasounds, vote GOP.

lester on August 24, 2012 at 6:23 PM

As a man you are no part of this discussion as you don’t have a vagina and couldn’t possibly know if a trans-vaginal ultrasounds was an invasion or not! If a woman is pregnant something already got stuck in there….. Being an informed patient that might just take a looksie and catch a glimpse at a wee little hand waving at mommy dearest before the assassination of him or her could maybe change some heartless woman to reconsider options that aren’t just about her.

To be honest if every single Democrat woman wanted to stop having any children, I would applaud their efforts… a real humanitarian effort worthy of praise and much support!

KOOLAID2 on August 24, 2012 at 10:34 PM

Sorry, I gave myself permission to not watch any of this crap.

It’s not like we haven’t heard it before.

And all they do is lie.

Republican voters, but that in recent years, something’s up with the Republican party.

No. I am a female and have always been a Republican. I would never vote for Obama.

I’m a far right Republican, not a moderate.

It’s irritating when people act like being far right = “unreasonable” or “unrealistic, narrow minded jerk.”

Moderate to me usually seems to come across as “too sympathetic with Democrats” or “I’m a fiscal conservative only and have condescending attitudes towards Christians and social conservatives.”

A lot of times (yes, not all) “Moderate” means to me, unwilling to stand for anything.

JMHO

That is the biggest bucket of B as in B, S as in S, I have heard in a long time.

These leftoids can simply lie without any compunction whatsoever.

exsanguine on August 24, 2012 at 11:17 PM

Most American’s favor bigger government, that’s why they’ll choose either Romney or Obama.
