Anderson Cooper grills Debbie Wasserman-Schultz: Why are you lying about Romney’s position on abortion?
posted at 10:13 pm on August 23, 2012 by Allahpundit
Between this and Wolf Blitzer doggedly reminding her that Paul Ryan’s Medicare plan would not, in fact, target senior citizens, it’s been a tough couple of weeks on CNN for America’s most lifelike talking-points robot. I wonder why they’ve decided to go after her lately. Has her droning, mechanical spin begun to annoy even otherwise sympathetic media? Or is this a pure ratings thing, with CNN producers realizing that rhetorical bloodsport with DWS is a surefire winner with conservative audiences?
Simple stuff here. The GOP adopted the same abortion language in its platform this year, with no specific exceptions for rape or incest, as it did in 2008 and 2004. Romney’s on record repeatedly as saying that he favors exceptions for rape and incest in prospective abortion bans. DWS’s spin: Because Romney’s the nominee and his people kinda sorta get to write the platform — which isn’t binding on him or anyone else — we should ignore his stated position and pretend like he’s no different from Todd Akin. And if that means occasionally bowdlerizing a quote in a newspaper for DNC fundraising e-mails, hey, politics ain’t beanbag. You’re now prepared for seven minutes of mind-paralyzing spin. Go get ‘em, Roboto.

A bit more than that. It seems like there was just one or two guys who were handed these applications, and they apparently had to request guidance from another unit in Washington. This unit held up the guidance for a bit less than two years, probably deliberately, until the start of 2012.
Then apparently after the guidance was received, the “threatening letters” started going out. Shortly after that the Tea Party groups began complaining to the media.

Well then you staff the problem then, don’t you? Not funnel the right-leaners to two (apparently hostile) employees to sit on for three years; all the while left-leaning groups get their applications approved in only a few months or weeks, with special handling. They have the personnel to do that, then the work can be equitably distributed.
This attitude goes directly to the top. They wanted this, the evidence is simply the length of time they allowed it to happen.

In this case, I would call out the managers, too, to find how how this could have lasted more than two years and have a body count, so to speak, of almost 500 jammed conservative applications.
I say to threaten the managers, too, with dismissal and loss of pension, and wait for them to sing like canaries.

Thanks for the Townhall link. It sums up most of the problems I have with the report. While it’s clear there are major problems at the IRS from the report, the report is also careful not to name names and doesn’t detail who was responsible for what beyond criticism of various units.
I think the IG ought to be called before Congress to testify about who these people were.

Coincidence? It’s possible. But given the strong political implications of the IRS’ gross misconduct and the White House’s penchant for pleading ignorance when faced with inconvenient truths, it’s not such a stretch to wonder if our government’s trying to pull yet another fast one.

The list will explode into the thousands when the rest of the story becomes public. The IRS goons that blockaded the charitable-applications harvested names of members, contributors, and associated companies from those applications. Then, all those secondary targets were sent out for audit.
Tertiary targets: the secondary list of targets were sorted through and sent out to other government departments for audit, by OSHA, EPA, Medicare/Medicaid, Labor, Social Security, etc, etc. They used any government agency possible to harass their targets.
The end result was a stolen election, and we need a Special Prosecutor.
