In the 19th century the legislature of Iowa considered a resolution to make pi legally equal to 3, not 3.14 or 3.14159. After all if units like a pound and a bushel could be arbitrarily determined so could pi. A university professor talked some sense into them and they abandoned the idea.

54.5 MPG is not exactly pi=3 but Iowa didn’t actually go through with their idea.

If it’s really that easy and poses zero negative economic costs, why stop at President Obama’s upcoming requirements that automakers come up with cars that meet a 54.5 mpg standard by 2025? Why not 75 mpg by 2020? Better yet, why not have them produce hovercrafts that are powered by moonbeams, immediately?

For the same reason they refuse to outlaw tobacco products even though the devil himself is responsible for creating such evils.

Every time they demonize a product (or service) they then have license to tax the living hell out of it. And we just keep letting them do it. This is why we will cease to be a free people.

My husband and I were recently in a serious accident that was caused by the other driver speeding and running a red light. We have permanent facial damage. My car was almost completely destroyed and we would certainly have been dead if we had been in one of those little tin cars Obummer wants us to buy. My family will never buy one of those death traps.

If people would only just listen and obey! I know how to run the world.

It came in California with the NOX gases and smog. This problem was solved with the catalytic converter. But after decreeing that something should be done it was done. but the were already in the pipeline. The request was just well timed to coincide with technology availability that took years and millions (REAL millions) of dollars of PRIVATE INVESTMENT.

After that the people that think 1+1=POTATO got the idea by merely wishin, er, dictatin..er…regulating would magically make their wish come true. NOTE: this also applies to their economic theories.

I am sure they could do better with mpg, it just depends on how many air bags they can put in.

How much oil are you expecting to save with new standards? Maybe such standards will push the year that we run out from 2150 to 2160.

Let me know when you figure out why there needs to be some sanity with respect to gas mileage standards.

t a ceremony today in Washington, D.C., President Obama announced that the new CAFE standards for vehicle fleets will be 54.5 mpg by 2025. The increase piggybacks Obama’s 2009 mandate for a CAFE average of 35.5 by 2016 and is the largest mandatory fuel economy increase in history.
