Media finally fed up with Obama dodging questions?

posted at 4:46 pm on August 18, 2012 by Jazz Shaw

There seems to be an increasing drumbeat in Washington which is focusing on the new, camera shy tendencies of the President. This was previously noted here when Barack Obama began taking nothing but softball interviews and reportedly even turned down an interview with Mr. Thrill Up My Leg. (He might have been worried that Matthews would ask him about how Bo was doing, leading to the inevitable questions about what the first family had for dinner the previous evening.)

By yesterday it seems that even his biggest supporters – a.k.a. the White House press corps – had had enough.

Reporters at the White House on Friday asked spokesman Josh Earnest about the lack of an official Obama press conference. They also complained that while Obama has done a series of interviews, he has mostly fielded softball questions from outlets like People.

Earnest said he didn’t have any scheduling announcements but argued that Obama has “spent a lot of time answering questions from reporters all over the country,” including a “wide range of outlets.”

At least one analysis finds that this isn’t any sort of “fight or flight” mode panic, but rather a calculated campaign move. Think of it as, “Obama’s Soft Media Strategy.”

This isn’t a mistake. Even at the height of a campaign in which they’ve been firing hard at Mitt Romney and trying to keep hold of the news cycle, Obama’s reelection staffers are pretty sure most voters aren’t tuning in.

“People get their news in many different ways,” Obama campaign spokeswoman Jen Psaki told POLITICO. “Sometimes it’s turning on ‘Entertainment Tonight’ and seeing what the latest news is out there.”

Psaki said the president will be doing a variety of media appearances in the coming weeks with both national and local outlets, but for now, “We’re reaching an audience that may not be paying attention to the day-to-day political back and forth.”

I see. So you’re trying to reach a different audience. Well, I suppose that would be an audience of People Who Don’t Care About Politics. Or, were we to look at it another way, they might be, People Who Aren’t Very Likely To Vote. You’ve really got a crack team at the wheel there, champ. But if nothing else, it should provide some fluffy amusement for the rest of us until the silly season of summer winds to a close.

Unfortunately for Obama, he created what media relations experts call “The Downward Spiral.”

Because he has been ducking the WHPC, his next appearance will be extra-scrutinized… and result in more critical coverage than he’s used to. That, in turn, will cause him to pull back even further.

His arrogance might turn the lapdog into a watchdog. Completely self-inflicted, too. :-)

If Obama would only give his creators in the media a chance they would be happy to feed him fluff and take a dive for him. Brush aside or lie on anything seemingly to tough for our now sensitive President, and keep up the name calling & issue evasion. They’ll cover for you Obama, they have to, they made you.

Oh boo, freaking hoo! The whores are upset that they’re outside the loop. Poor babies. And just when did they ask His Majesty any hard questions, with equally hard followup questions?

As Barry would tell them, “You know that most of you voted for me.” And left unspoken was …. AND YOU WILL VOTE FOR ME AGAIN!

As for Barry’s strategy; quite simple – he’s got no record to run on, so why take a chance that someone will question a supposed accomplishment? Not only that, he’s got no “new” ideas, so why tempt someone to ask what he’s got coming that’s “new and innovative”.

At least one analysis finds that this isn’t any sort of “fight or flight” mode panic, but rather a calculated campaign move.

Apparently, Mr. Obama and his staff are in need of some remedial civics instruction.

The President of the United States has job responsibilities which should have a greater priority than campaign calculations. Mr. Obama seems to have forgotten he works for and must report to the citizens of the United States.

If I dodged questions from my boss about our company’s financials or operations, I don’t think my comments at the water cooler about Jennifer Anniston’s upcoming marriage would keep me from getting fired.

Let’s hope it won’t keep Mr. Obama from getting fired in November either.

This article should distinguish between the TV media types, and the print media crowd.

The latter don’t care, and are cranking out pro-Dear Leader tripe non-stop. But then again, they’re the hard left bunch within the media.

The former have ratings to consider (however indifferently), and (by far) have much larger egos… and are much more concerned with their ‘public image’.

The ‘print lefties’ don’t have that concern since their readership is usually left of them, hence their lack of hurt feelings (and undying devotion).

They’re still hoping that the ‘real’ Dear Leader will show his teeth and put those evil TP-types in their place, ‘change’ Amerika, and the world.

That crew will go over the cliff for Dear Leader… the Boob-tube prima donas… not so much.

Its possible that Obama is reticent to speak to the press because the Democratic base, which includes most members of the MSM, would immediately, and rightly, ask him for his plans for a second term. They would want specifics, not slogans or platitudes.

He has no specific plans to offer them that might conceivably induce them to vote for him, and even the LEFT will no longer simply take his word for it that things are somehow magically improve.

The debates, of course, pose risk and reward for both candidates. With each of the moderators selected, his or her focus will be ENTIRELY on saving barack. For that night, each of those “reporters” will be the barack campaign’s most-important staff member. So the question going in will be: Will Romney be prepared, a la Gingrich, to stop the moderator in his campaign tracks and demand the debate turn to the issues voters care about, or will he stand there and hem and haw about his taxes all night?

This time if they asks questions why they stay with the person who is hitting them, they will be called racists and then call you racist for asking.

I don’t know why he would be afraid of the media, the media would most certainly treat him with baby gloves.
They would ask about how rotten Paul Ryan is and how Romney could be a tax cheat, then ask what his favorite flavored ice cream is and his favorite color.

The media is a joke, they may be worried that people are seeing straight through them now but I highly doubt it

Hell I’m suprised there isn’t a debate on current tv hahahaha

Conservative4ev on August 18, 2012 at 6:56 PM

I think this is why the debates are so critical this year.

No hiding, no Teleprompter.

Granted, he may get some softball questions, but all it takes is one moment, one question he stumbles on, or one slightly unhinged lecture for the mask to slip.

And it will slip.

BacaDog on August 18, 2012 at 6:07 PM

Bullcrap they will give him the questions ahead of time

Conservative4ev on August 18, 2012 at 6:58 PM

If he gets back in he will ignore them even more as they will not be needed.

It is funny how by the numbers this is.

harlekwin15 on August 18, 2012 at 7:02 PM

I say we bring back a few old fashioned American Traditions… Like charging traitors, with, well treason, then hanging them after their convictions. The Whitehouse Press corpse could follow Obama up to the gallows asking him questions, and then ask each other questions as they are hanged right next to him.

With apologies to General W.T. Sherman, If we did that, there would be news from He!! within an hour and a half.

The soundtrack to one of BHOs nightmares:

Crazy,
Over the rainbow, I am crazy,
Bars in the window.
There must have been a door there in the wall
When I came in.
Crazy, over the rainbow, he is crazy.

The evidence before the court is
Incontrovertible, there’s no need for
The jury to retire.
In all my years of judging
I have never heard before
Of someone more deserving
Of the full penalty of law.
The way you made them suffer,
Your exquisite wife and mother,
Fills me with the urge to defecate!

“Hey Judge! Shit on him!”

Since, my friend, you have revealed your
Deepest fear,
I sentence you to be exposed before
Your peers.
Tear down the wall!

BHO is afraid of being exposed. His history is made…all thats left is to examine it.

This is why he doesn’t answer questions. It also fits perfectly with a diagnosis of narcissism.

Reporters at the White House on Friday asked spokesman Josh Earnest

Only a joke of a President like this one could have a spokesman named Josh Earnest.

Missy on August 18, 2012 at 7:14 PM

softball interviews

Hey you media s u c k-ups…. President You Didn’t Build That has been having a problem throwing his fast ball lately. Can’t you see that? You know…the pitch that flies right by the American people without ever being seen? He’s been sent down to the minors to work on it for awhile. Can’t have any more of the electorate catching a glimpse of what he’s really all about now can we? He’ll be back as soon as he gets some speed on that ball again.
So quitcherbichin… your “happily ever after” moment isn’t far off.

Relax ya little Obama lap dancers, he’ll give you a backhand when he needs you. And then you’ll go out and defend his every move.

Pathetic media.

PappyD61 on August 18, 2012 at 4:53 PM

…you said it nicer Pappy……I can’t understand why they are so upset…they walk behind JugEars everyday carrying toilet paper to wipe his azz for him all the time.

KOOLAID2 on August 18, 2012 at 7:42 PM

No, the MSM might whine a little at the lack of access, but Obama knows that they will do anything he asks of them to get him reelected.

It’s a version of political sadomasochism where Obama puts on a mask and a leather thong, handcuffs the MSM to the bedposts and then whips them and sucks their toes. They then rave about his intellect, courage, good looks, leadership, economic wizardry, etc.

Different Democrat President; same old story.

The MSM couldn’t write a negative story about a Democrat if their lives depended on it. Bias is just part of their DNA.

BMF on August 18, 2012 at 7:47 PM

Do the Obama Lovers in media really, really, think that Obama will permit a free press if he is re-elected?

Not a chance.

MSLSD/DNC operative Angria Mitchell is probably sifting madly through Ryan’s garbage cans as we speak.

viking01 on August 18, 2012 at 8:23 PM

This is awful! How will we know whether he is still enchanted?

Maybe Mitt can release his tax returns with the proviso that his staff could edit what is said about them.

On second thought, they might make it look worse than the press would.

diogenes on August 18, 2012 at 8:44 PM

Doctor Frankenstein (WHPC) is mad that their creation has turned on them?

Too bad, so sad…

Wait ’til they got a helping of President Romney next January…

Khun Joe on August 18, 2012 at 8:46 PM

The media, the left wingers in the media that is, should turn their backs on him when the campaign gets in full swing after the conventions. He’s going to want to plant his face in front of every camera he can, and they should turn that camera away and ask no questions of him and disallow him his stupid monologs.

If they had even an ounce of decency this is what they’d do.

But we all know they aren’t the slightest bit decent.
