WH press: Hey, is Romney’s dog part of the important policy debate you’re fostering?

posted at 4:16 pm on August 16, 2012 by Mary Katharine Ham

Ed mentioned this in an update, but the video is worth a watch. Jake Tapper asks if Obama’s three references to Seamus are part of the “important policy debate” the White House is trying to have, which is allegedly being foiled by Romney and Ryan. Carney demurs, saying the Seamus line was just a joke in three speeches and shouldn’t overtake the conversation. Tapper calls the comment “cable catnip” the White House should be savvy enough to avoid. Carney exhibits wide-eyed innocence as most of the press corps chuckles.

Actually Mr. Carney I would welcome talk about the Wind Energy Tax credits. Where does that money come from ? Is it true that a turbine runs upwards of a million dollars and the buyer gets off paying less than half the cost? Talk about corporate welfare.

Heritage policy analyst Nick Loris writes:

The subsidy has been artificially propping up jobs in the industry and shifted labor and capital away from other, more productive sectors of the economy.… Wind can compete without subsidies and the industry won’t entirely disappear.… Rather than having the subsidies promote technological stagnation in the industry, investments and resources would flow toward the most promising wind companies and technologies. This would allow for a strong wind industry that that can compete without subsidies.

What a waste.

$1.6 billion. The estimated amount that tax credits for wind energy producers will cost the federal government this year. In the face of mounting public debt and giant deficits, opponents say it’s time for the industry to stand on its own and stop relying on government handouts to bolster their business.

Corrupt Obama is absolutely refusing to allow even Corzine to be prosecuted. Obama says he is the defender of Medicare but steals over 700 billion from it and says he is for the people against the greedy wall street yet doesn’t prosecute a single one of them versus Clinton and Bush both going after thousands of them. Obama is the most two-faced man to ever walk the planet.

Yes, let us have a conversation about the enormous boondoggle of wind power, and how it will never be cost effective – especially considering the enormous amount of cheap and clean natural gas under our feet remains untappable due to this regime’s out of control EPA.

Somehow, I’d think Mr. Carney would rather talk about eating dogs.

Wind can compete without subsidies and the industry won’t entirely disappear.… Rather than having the subsidies promote technological stagnation in the industry, investments and resources would flow toward the most promising wind companies and technologies. This would allow for a strong wind industry that that can compete without subsidies.

I sure would like to see that study.

Every study I have seen shows that Wind actually only generates 10% of what it is rated because it must constantly be backed up. There is only one way to do that constantly run gas/coal plants. Well then the wind energy is actually just wasted. Perhaps that study ignored the backup cost.

Now some industries could use wind effectively as some can use power when it is available perhaps for these it could prove efficient. But they are rare. Most companies need constant not intermittent power.

A Korean firm has made a breakthrough in batteries it looks very promising. You could plug in your car at a service station and fill up the battery in a couple of minutes then go up to another 100 miles could make electric cars actually workable. But they still need electricity. For now Electric cars burn coal for about 40% of their power.

How I became George Obama’s ‘brother’

By Dinesh D’Souza

A few days ago I received a call from a man I recently met named George. He was a bit flustered, and soon informed me that his young son was sick with a chest condition. He pleaded with me to send him $1,000 to cover the medical bills. Since George was at the hospital I asked him to let me speak to a nurse, and she confirmed that George’s son was indeed ill. So I agreed to send George the money through Western Union. He was profusely grateful. But before I hung up I asked George, “Why are you coming to me?” He said, “I have no one else to ask.” Then he said something that astounded me, “Dinesh, you are like a brother to me.”

Actually, George has a real life brother who just happens to be the president of the United States. (George Obama is the youngest of eight children sired by Barack Obama Sr.) George’s brother is a multimillionaire and the most powerful man in the world. Moreover, George’s brother has framed his re-election campaign around the “fair share” theme that we owe obligations to those who are less fortunate.

One of Obama’s favorite phrases comes right out of the Bible: “We are our brother’s keeper.” Yet he has not contributed a penny to help his own brother. And evidently George does not believe, even in times of emergency, that he can turn to his brother in the White House for help.

So much for spreading the wealth around.

blink on August 16, 2012 at 4:42 PM

I’m having great fun with my stupid Leftist friends here in New Hampshire-we have a brand spanking new wind farm under construction just south of the White Mountain National Forest.

The Greenies rammed this project thru-even though it’s located right across the valley from one of the only Peregrine Falcon nesting sites in the state and is right on the border of a major military aircraft training area. The residents in the town below the wind farm bitterly fought it, but the Activist Justices at the New Hampshire Supreme Court wouldn’t even give them a hearing.

The Greenies here have been bitterly opposed to a proposed project called “Northern Pass”, which would bring cheap Canadian Hydro Power down here. Their beef? The transmission towers would be 100 feet tall.

But these new wind towers are 4 times as tall. When I remind them of that they strangely go silent.

And then when I also remind them that absolutely none of the power that will be generated by this new wind farm will stay here in New Hampshire (it will all be outsourced to Massachusetts) they just skulk away.

And now they are starting to see the visible impact of those towers that are 4 times taller than the ones they opposed. It’s humbling.

Even the utility poles down in the valley that will bring the power out from the wind farm site are 4 times taller than their counterparts. But that’s not “bad” to the Left, because it’s wind power!

Liberal “Logic”:

Wind power = good

Hydro power = bad
