Video: Are you ready for the Obama re-election musical?

posted at 4:01 pm on August 15, 2012 by Allahpundit

Via Ace and Twitchy, until today I was firmly in the Romney column. Then I heard “Health care is a right/Medicare’s a must” sung-shouted in a collective voice so sweet, it can only have come from a choir of seraphim disguised as an especially annoying, but otherwise totally stereotypical, theater troupe.

And now I don’t know, guys. I just don’t know.

Seriously, in its own way, this pile captures the spirit — and “hipness” — of Obama’s current campaign roughly as well as will.i.am’s “yes we can” hymn to The One captured the mood of Hopenchange circa 2008. Watch ‘em back to back and shudder at the decline. Click the image to watch.

My wife and I were cruising pay per view last night and came across another pro-Obama movie. “We Are Party!” About high school kids who are jazzed over Obama and find ways to express it or something. Sort of like a Glee movie I guess, but about Obama.

I just Binged it and couldn’t find it. But there it was last night on pay per view. We have Dish.

Because the more likely answer is that this is a completely conservative group of Republican TEA Partiers who perform nightly plays and musicals about the American founding and are tired of the bias in the entertainment industry that continually and unapologetically favors Democrats/Liberals.

Or

They are the prototypical Lefty elitists showing their true colors and hiding by a CYA promoting marquee on their website to shield them from criticism.

Here’s a scary thought. Somehow the Democrat research and polling has determined that there is a significant number of Americans that will watch this and believe it to be true and thus vote for Obama. The really scary thought is that the people they are targeting in this are out walking around loose. They really exist, the zombies that feed on this sort of drivel .

Washington Fancy on August 15, 2012 at 4:16 PM

That was quite an experiment. It failed. The lyrics snuffed out the joy of the original. I had no reaction. It would have been more effective if they set up literal straw men and had crickets playing on the soundtrack.

I know one thing for sure, without even bothering to waste time watching it–racial/gender/sexual orientation casting quotas were used.

spiritof61 on August 15, 2012 at 4:31 PM

I think I just threw up in my mouth.

If I watch it again, I’ll throw up in somebody else’s mouth.

Neither act will be as horrifying as watching it a third time.

Actually, the automatons in the video are awesome! They’re like the classic jerk-who-doesn’t-realize-everyone-thinks-he’s-a-jerk we all remember from our old college party days.

Their lack of self-awareness is a thing of beauty. Can you just imagine the viewing party these clueless dimwits had after the shoot? The robotic, self-affirming head-nodding and beautific smiles of smug, enlightened satisfaction at how wonderful it all made them feel.

One problem, though: There were so many “typical white persons” in the video, it would be easy for the casual viewer to assume they are simply watching an in-house Obama re-election campaign staff home video.

Optics, people! Optics!

What’s even worse than that are the photos of the Westboro Baptist nuts. I guess the implication there is that they are your typical Republicans.

UltimateBob on August 15, 2012 at 4:33 PM

It says it’s parody. But what are they parodying? If it’s a parody of Obama supporters, it really doesn’t do any outright mocking that would let on it’s parody. If it’s a parody of the Les Miz song.. um, why?

It seems to be a loving homage to The One, and a direct attack on the character of all Republicans. So, if this isn’t parody, then it must be genuine, right?

If that’s wrong, then this is the worst parody of all time. ALL TIME!

this IS a parody…

i took it as a brilliant parody of obama’s cult of personality and of victimhood

i love the name Don DeMesquita. like a bug. a mosquito — how post-modern irony

and the take-off on Les Miserables…”The Victims”

the mix of fiction and history — just like Obama’s autobiography.

obama as jean valjean — a former convict, haunted by his sordid past.

Michelle as Fantine?

could Javert be Supreme Court Chief Justice Roberts??

even the bit about selling a t-shirt of obama for one term more is a brilliant satire of the selling of obama — you know like the wedding registry (odd that valerie jarrett’s daughter didnt register for obama)
