Rudy Giuliani on Biden: “This guy just isn’t bright”

posted at 3:21 pm on August 15, 2012 by Erika Johnsen

Woah there, Giuliani — tell us how you really feel!

The former GOP presidential hopeful had harsh words for Biden in the wake of a statement the vice president made yesterday, when Biden told a Virginia audience with a large African American presence that Republicans and Wall Street will “put y’all back in chains.”

“I think if it came from somebody serious, maybe we’d get all excited about it,” Giuliani said on CNBC’s The Kudlow Report, dismissing Biden. “But I think the vice president of the United States has become a laugh line on late night television. I mean, I’ve never seen a vice president that has made as many mistakes, said as many stupid things. …There’s a real fear if, God forbid, he ever had to be entrusted with the presidency, whether he really has the mental capacity to handle it.”

“I mean, this guy just isn’t bright. He’s never been bright. He isn’t bright. People think well, he just talks a little too much. Actually, he’s just not very smart.”

Well, we were all thinking it — but abandoning the standard pretense for having ‘nothing but respect’ for one’s political fellows and foes, Giuliani was straightforward enough to just come out and say it. Even besides Biden’s egregious “chains” comments yesterday, Biden has made a couple of facepalm-worthy mini-gaffes… just today. Everybody misspeaks sometimes, but…

We can lead the 20th century?

Governor Ryan?

Oof.

Here’s the thing.

People keep treating Biden like a joke.

That’s not enough. The chuckleheads in the press will give him an infinite pass as long as he’s only a “joke.” After all, he makes for good copy.

He needs to become a liability. That is, a real negative force on Obama’s polling.

That’ll only happen if, like Giuliani and Palin, conservatives start making Biden’s basic competency to be VP an issue in this fall campaign.

Biden is a threat to US national security.

Robert_Paulson on August 15, 2012 at 3:28 PM

Good, about time we hear a Republican with some cajones speak, especially when the race card is played, I’m sick of that crap. The other two soundbytes I can dismiss as simple verbal slip ups, like what George W Bush used to have, but when you have to resort to the race card it’s because you lack the intellectual capacity to debate the actual policy.

If the lunatic-left socialist extremists had any brains they wouldn’t be lunatic-left socialist extremists.

Of course, Bite-Me is a “special” case….the mental handicap of Biden, whose multiple brain aneurysms have made him incapable of operating heavy machinery (like a car or a screwdriver) — or preforming most normal tasks, like flying on an airplane – also is responsible for him constantly putting his foot in his mouth. Of course, as with dingbat pelosi, those constant Botox injections Bite-Me gets have probably destroyed quite a few braincells as well – and we all know that lunatic-left extremists have VERY FEW braincells to begin with.

Giulini basically ran this year’s election back in 1993, when everything the Democrats and the media are throwing at Romney and Ryan (including and especially the race card) were thrown at him in the mayoral election against David Dinkins.

More than anyone else, he should understand you can’t back down against the Dems, because you won’t get any credit from the media for it anyway, so giving them the vapors by saying what everyone knows about Biden isn’t going to hurt the GOP campaign. Plus, it’s fun to watch the Dems and the media get outrageously outraged, because just as they believe (or at least say they believe) no blacks can be racist, no Democrat to them can be either evil or stupid — or at least, no Democrat who is still running for public office or is in a high-profile public position can be evil or stupid; only conservative Republicans can hold those titles.

Hummer53 on August 15, 2012 at 3:37 PM

I have been considering this point, but think that there are a couple of factors that will prevent Obama from doing this. First, it would be an admission that he is in trouble, and he is either too arrogant or too stupid to come to that conclusion. Probably both, in fact. And second, he is not going to anoint “Billary” as his successor(s). There is too much ill-will there from both sides. It is not a coincidence, I think, that Hillary became Sec State, which is an office that pretty much removes the person who holds it from political activities.

Poor Joe.

His “medical condition” seems to be getting worse and will need to step down as VP so that he can focus on getting better.

Those hateful Republicans calling Joe all kinds of awful names, making fun of a sick man.

It wasn’t that Joe was making gaffes, or isn’t very bright–his brain is sick.

That’s what will happen soon.

This doesn’t explain Obama’s gaffes of course.
I think it’s a toss up between Biden and Obama–neither are too bright and both have mental problems.

As I said I hope the Romney camp is as well. Agree it will not be Hillary but would bet money that Biden will not be on the ticket.

sdbatboy on August 15, 2012 at 4:00 PM

In the Purple Strategies Poll Romney and Ryan lead the Obama-Biden
ticket by a point (47% to 46%), an improvement from July when President Obama led Romney by 2 points, 47% to 45%. A 3 points switch.

The Romney-Ryan ticket is fueled by an 11-point advantage among independents. This represents an increase from July, when Romney
held a 5-point margin over Obama among that key group.

bayview on August 15, 2012 at 4:02 PM

I see a Romney-Ryan ad coming that contrasts Ryan with Biden. Could be both hilarious and devastating.

Then Obama can name Valerie Jarret as his running mate, or something. I very much doubt it would be Hillary!. Is there some other white woman available? Or how about a female Hispanic?

farsighted on August 15, 2012 at 4:03 PM

Some time ago I heard it argued that Biden was really just Obama’s “Anti assassination insurance”.

The point being, according to the argument, that Obama decided that he could be certain that NO ONE would ever risk assassinating him if Joe Biden, the ‘village idiot’ was the one who would become president in his stead.

I doubted that Obama was that frightened or that cynical, at the time.

However, over the last four years, Biden has lent considerable weight to that argument.

thatsafactjack on August 15, 2012 at 4:03 PM

Biden’s recent performances reminded me of Dennis Miller’s take on Robert Byrd on TDS a few years ago.

“Let’s face facts, if Robert Byrd were your grandfather and he went of on one of these demented screeds at Thanksgiving dinner, everyone would sit there looking at him, smiling. Then as soon as he left the room, somebody say, “Hey, what the **** are we going to do about Grandpa?”

Biden’s been a joke in the Senate for years. If Senator Obama had ever bothered to show up and do his job in the Senate, he probably would have known that. Instead, our “most brilliant president, evah” gave us a preview of his keen executive skill and “superior judgment to lead” by choosing the Senate’s pet clown to be his second-in-command.

It doesn’t matter. Biden can go into a coma tomorrow and the media would still claim he was a good veep.

It’s the same as Obama. the media portrayed W Bush as an idiot b/c he misspoke sometimes. Obama is much worse than W at speaking (when he is not completely scripted) and makes similar, if not worse, gaffes all the time. Yet the media ignores the gaffes and pretends that Obama is highly intelligent, even though nobody with a brain believes Obama is anything but average at best.
