Video: Soledad O’Brien’s membership in Mantra Club confirmed

posted at 12:41 pm on August 14, 2012 by Ed Morrissey

Did you like the Newt Gingrich/Piers Morgan bout earlier today?  That was just the undercard.  John Sununu appeared on CNN’s Starting Point this morning with Soledad O’Brien and fought the main bout in the center(-left) ring.  Where Morgan allowed Gingrich to have his say, O’Brien and Sununu repeatedly interrupted each other with charges of talking-points reliance, trading haymakers all fight long.

Who won? Mediaite scores it a draw for everyone:

“I have the Congressional Budget Office Budget report right here,” Sununu said, waving it on camera. “Go read page 13 and 14.”

“I can tell you what it says, yes,” said O’Brien. “It cuts a reduction in the expected rate of growth, which you know. Not cutting benefits to the elderly. Benefits will be improved. The focus is on hospitals. The focus is on health insurance.”

“He gutted the program by $711 million [sic],” said Sununu of Obama. “And the fact is he reduces services to Medicare beneficiaries currently on the package. What the difference is, is that Romney says no impact to anybody 55 or over. It is clear in here that the reduction in services start on January 1, 2013 and Obama stole that money to put it into programs under Obamacare…”

“The hospitals agreed to that,” O’Brien countered. “The drug providers agreed to that because their theory is that what they’re going to be able to do is make up by the number of people who come into the system. It doesn’t reduce or cut the benefits. Right….”

“Soledad, stop this!” said Sununu. “All you’re doing is mimicking the stuff that comes out of the White House and gets repeated on the Democratic blog boards out there….”

“I’m telling you what FactCheck.com tells you,” she insisted. “I’m telling you what the CBO tells you. I’m telling you what CNN’s independent analysis does.”

“Put an Obama bumper sticker on your forehead when you do this,” Sununu shot back.

Sununu meant to say $711 billion, of course.  In ObamaCare, $711 million is just a rounding error.  Both of the combatants flashed paper on screen while talking, although in O’Brien’s case, that may not mean much. The reduction — and it is a reduction of the $700+ billion comes from Medicare Advantage, the successful public/private partnership that allowed seniors a chance to access increased benefits and more comprehensive coverage in a federally-managed exchange.  Taking that option from seniors and the disabled means less coverage for the 25% of Medicare recipients who opted into it, and the money gets shifted to pay for part of the Medicaid expansion and the subsidies for people buying health insurance in the exact same kind of exchanges that Democrats found so objectionable in Medicare.

Maybe O’Brien should pay a little more attention to Barack Obama’s own words.  The GOP reminds us that in November 2009, Obama not only proudly owned those cuts to Medicare, he threatened to veto any attempt to reverse them:

Claiming that the $700 billion isn’t a reduction for current Medicare recipients is just nonsense. But it is a prerequisite to join Mantra Club.  And now it seems clear that Romney/Ryan surrogates intend to challenge media figures on bias when they try to use Democratic talking points on the Ryan plan in interviews this week, which is good news indeed.

Remember when the CBO came out with a report a couple months ago, a report that said that Obamacare is not going to be “deficit neutral” as originally claimed, but will instead add billions to the deficit every year?

Wonder why CNN and Soledad O’Brien weren’t reporting that story? Was it because the CBO report flatly refuted Obama’s many promises, or because it wasn’t included in the Democrats’ daily talking points memo, or both?

Obama’s cuts were only made to Medicare Advantage, which is the public-private portion of Medicare, which is also the only financially sustainable and successful part. So basically, Obama is making it harder for people to pay for their own treatment and make their own decisions on heath care, so they will rely more on the government.

This is the problem with the whole “throw out the establishment” meme we’re getting from the TruCons – We got an “establishment” Republican eloquently taking it to the press on a daily basis, but since he’s a member of the “establishment” he needs to be gotten rid of and replaced by an “approved conservative.” Not every establishment member of the GOP is a sinner, nor is every member of the Tea Party a saint (remember Christine O’Donnell). Time to put aside the purity tests and the inquisition mentality that has been running amok as of late, and choose (and utilize) the best people for the job regardless of ideology.

I don’t know that I agree with that. The Left wants to boost the welfare rolls, that’s true. But Cloward-Pivens was about overloading the welfare rolls to cause societal collapse, and to use that collapse to usher in a guaranteed annual salary and the end of poverty.

The modern Left has no such lofty, albeit misguided, goals. The Left just wants a bunch of people on welfare so they’re dependent on government and will keep voting for Democrats until the end of time. That’s what happened to the British after the NHS Act was passed the ’50s.

As a NH resident I can tell you that many of us had some disagreements with John while he was our Governor, and also many of us are still ticked off at him for helping Warren Rudman to talk Pappy Bush into picking Souter for SCOTUS. But in reality Rudman deserves more of the blame for Souter than Sununu does.

But he’s done mush better in recent years, both as a RNC attack dog as well as here in the Granite State. He and his family saved the bankrupt Waterville Valley Ski Area in northern NH and now own it. Ironically, WV was one of Democrat Bobby Kennedy’s favorite ski destinations, and a trail on the mountain (Black Diamond, of course) still bears his name (“Bobby’s Run”). Even stranger, just up the road is another world-class ski area, Loon, which was founded and owned by the late Sherman Adams. Sherm was President Ike’s White House Chief of Staff, and like Sununu later he had to leave that position under an ethical cloud.

These people like soledad aren’t talking heads, they’re empty heads. I can’t stand them, never watch them, and never click the videos to see them bloviate on their communist talking points. Sununu kicks butt though.

People on the right are too concerned about Ryan’s budget not going far enough fast enough. While spending can be punched in instantly (almost) it always takes a long time to fix the system. What we need to do is insure the libtard commies are kept out of power long enough for the initial fixes to take effect, then increase the amount of fix as time rolls on. Ryan’s plan has a target date for solvency, but as time goes on further tweaking can bring that date closer, and I believe that’s the idea.

The difference between what Ryan wants to do and what hardcore fiscal-ites want is that Ryan doesn’t want to leave people without any options for care. IMO, the correct thing to do versus ignoring those in the system and about to go into the system like the hardcore fiscalites want.

Face facts, we ARE going to have public systems, they need to be run in a sane manner and have to be controlled. Other things like controlling the for-profit hospitals and insurance companies are going to have to happen though, otherwise the left will use those as a place to farm cash.

Above all, liberal progressive socialism needs to be crushed from existence completely. We cannot evolve into a purely responsible society with individual freedom unless the commie basterds that desire state control over your every movement, action, and fart are wiped from existence completely.

That includes things much farther down the control chain, like HotAir selling out to Facebook in order to pin your conservative identity to your real name so you can be properly punished for not going along with the progressive fascism. It needs to be stopped, crushed, and eliminated forever.

Look at least for today I will put on my “What Mitt would have to do to win hat”. He won’t of course but I will pretend he could.

This was a great but muddled takedown. Muddled because he has no right to confuse millions with billions. That is a huge deal that really confuses Americans. He barely mentioned how this would hurt Seniors and did mention it would hurt 25% of them.

If Mitt wanted to win he would make this his defining issue with the following talking points.

Obama wants to push off the cliff 25% of current Seniors in 2013. This is when many will die because they can no longer get Medicare Advantage. This is not rhetoric this is the truth. But you have to tell the story in those terms or you lose.

Obama wants to completely end Medicare in 2025 or earlier because at that time it will go bankrupt. Seniors will all be pushed off the cliff then an add should show this as Medicare will end totally. Ryan has a plan to save it for the middle aged people of America but Obama has no plan thus he plans to push all Seniors off the Cliff.

Do not depend on Social Security either Obama has no plan to save it either so it will go bankrupt shortly after. Show tons of Seniors with tin cups begging.

This is serious folks. It is not like the babby boomers will not retire they will and there is no plan for this period. Ryan has a bit of a plan but Romney is already walking this back saying that his plan is not actually Ryans plan. What the hell. Talk about political stupidity. Romney wake up. You either send a united message or you lose. It is that simple. Unite stupid Republicans or you lose. WAKE UP.

Look I have been against Romney because he simply can not win with his muddled message. He says different things all the time. He has already sabotaged his VP pick with this two plan crap.

Romney WAKE UP you absolutely will lose if you do not WAKE UP.

And it changes as the plans or programs change…for instance, when the Supreme Court said that states did not have to put all those people on medicaid..that changed how the CBO scored Obamacare..but then again even that depends on whether or not that means people will require more subsidies from the federal government for the insurance or whether they will just choose to pay the mandate tax. There is just no way of knowing what that cost will actually be.

Can somebody do a photoshop of Soldedad O’Brian with an Obama sticker on her forehead. I’m not handy that way but I would love to see it.

Soledad would look at the noonday sun and claim it’s midnight. He talking points are everything. Today the national debt surpassed 16 Trillion dollars, yet she thinks we can afford to keep plowing forward with Obamacare just by raising taxes. What does she think is behind the bad economy, low taxes, underregulation? She’s a high school debater who just keeps repeating false evidence as if it’s proof she’s right.

Yeah, but she’s very animated, she shakes her head a lot, she gets red in her face (or is that just inadvertently placed makeup), all while she defends the indefensible …so, yeah, you can see where her journalistic ‘strengths’ lie :)….the more I think about it, the more I think it’s a pattern with the anchors on the left, wonder if they take some dramatic art classes, Mika shakes her head and nods a lot too, while saying not much….

Sununu PWNS another libtard media anchor. I love it!

Decoski on August 14, 2012 at 7:17 PM

Why would anyone name a girl “Solitude” (Soledad)?…

Pest on August 15, 2012 at 9:31 AM

“Put an Obama bumper sticker on your forehead when you do this,” Sununu shot back.

Childish comments like this is why this country is getting no where politically.

Actually, I find the honesty refreshing. Who is more brave? The ones who pretend the emperor is not naked or the ones that point out that he is?
